Short Survey & Project Update

While the survey will still run until the end of the month I can say that is has been filled in by a little over 750 users (~8% of weekly users) and the response is overwhelmingly positive. I'll be going over all the results and comments next weekend and I will to make a post with the results after.

Having said that...

Last weekend the character builder has been reported to Wizards of the Coast and other various publishers of content (dmsguild / critical role / kobold press) so I probably will be getting cease and desist mails to take down the content. I have not yet received them but I expect to receive them some time this week.

Obviously I can't do anything about this (it's a wonder that I managed to keep it available for all these years) so I expect to be needing to take them down in the near future.

I suggest to backup all content of your docs/5e Character Builder folder and to disable the content auto-update setting in the application settings for now so you can keep using your current content for as long as you want if it is taken down.

While the content is out there and with so many users it is unlikely that the content won't popup in different places, but for obvious reason I will not make it available publicly again. The software itself should be fine since it only comes with the free SRD content out of the box (now you know why if you didn't already).

This development will obviously also play a role in making a decision going forward. Not having the content is for certain a deal breaker to a lot, if not most, people who are supporting or were thinking of supporting the project.

So, unfortunately things are still quite uncertain... I hope to make the decision in October.

Thanks.

Comments

Unfortunately if I end up discontinuing the project in October I wouldn't be able to release anything. It's not even available for testing.

I am so sorry to hear this! Thank you so much for all the hard work you have done! By any chance, will the editor that you've been working on still be released before the official discontinuation of the Builder?

Hope the reporting parties get horrible arse cramps for the remainder of their sorry lives and thanks again for the awesome software.
