Kingdom Episode 1 [PART 2]

HongJoon is the leader and the one with blonde hair. He has the most respect for Stray Kids and you will see this later. Wooyoung is best friends to Changbin and so he will always pick stray kids. But Hongjoon is thinking about the competition not as being disrespectful. He knows that stray kids are very powerful and similar to their group and doesn't want to have them go after their performance so that their performance stands out more.

NOOO Hongjoon is very close to stray kids he only meant that he would feel pressured to have SKZ go right after them bc they respect each other and being compared to SKZ right off the bat would be intimidating since they are similar and friends. Hongjoon is one of the nicest idols i've come across yet, he really cares about his team, Atinys and other groups.

Poor Hongjoon! What he meant is that it wasn't good for Ateez that Stray Kids performed right after them so, if you think about it, he was paying them a compliment. Those groups really love each other, even more so after Kingdom *-*

Hoogjoon loves SKZ and Wooyoung is a HUGE STAY. I think Joon knows that there is a slight similarity with them and SKZ so they went with the oldest group since they(the youngest) had already gone. As the show goes on, you will see the friendship between the three groups grow. BTOB has kinda taken SKZ & Ateez under their wings. It’s really beautiful to be honest.

here for Hongjoon’s protection squad!… it was clearly a misunderstanding, Ateez and Stray Kids are very close, Changbin even have a photo with wooyoung (one member of ateez) on the back of his phone… I hope you don't start to get prejudiced because of this about Ateez… they’re really really really great… they dominate the 4th generation of kpop and even won an award for they’re performances because are outstanding

Just because no-one else has mentioned it, Hongjoong is actually the Captain of Ateez. Because they take the pirate thing seriously...kinda.....well as seriously as they take most things lol. There's a whole Ateez universe (that I don't understand, so won't try to explain).

hahaha just want to clear any misunderstandings...even though you'll see if you keep watching the episodes, but Hongjoong (really all of Ateez) and SKZ are actually besties. It's like salama diana said above, there was a lack of translation but Wooyoung wanted his bestie (Changbin is legit his best friend outside of Ateez) to go next but Hongjoong was thinking more strategically that they need to clearly define themselves as performers away from SKZ because of how good they are.

Wooyoung from ateez said "I think skz will be better" as like a better choice, then Hongjoong said "No I dont think so" he wasn't mean to skz he was telling his group members not to choose skz to go just right after them since they are strong contestants

what's worst is that those were FAKE allegations ... hyunjin took 4 months of break during that time. I was beyond sad not seeing him on the show while he is literally one of the best performers of his generation and proved it multiple times

hongjoong was definitely saying no to skz going after them, not that they weren't good haha (him and chan are really good friends). I think it's because skz and atz can have a similar vibe of music so to not be directly compared they put btob second, as btob do a lot of ballads so having a different kind of performance after them would make theirs stand out more. about to watch part 3 but loving this so far!!

What Hongjoon meant with skz won't be better was just about the tactical options of who to put next just to don't get lost in to much similar styles right from the beginning.. they chose BTOB cause their style is very different from Ateez so they could shine more individually if that makes sense

I'm glad you were finally able to post this. I've been enjoying your reactions (obviously, since I'm here) and always look forward to seeing you react to content/ music. I also share you love for language so I just wanted to say this, with no specific intention behind it, I've noticed that sometimes you take the subtitles and translations a bit at face value... I think it's important to remember (and I remind myself a lot as well), that Korean is quite a different language from English and it's often hard to translate things accurately, aside from that, translations themselves are not always the best. Most importantly, there's a huge amount of cultural context that plays into it all, both in terms of the content being Korean, but also specifically the sub-culture of k-pop. It's fun to watch you learn about it as you watch Stray Kids along with us, so I hope that you can perhaps be a bit more patient and unassuming with the dialogue, etc. Final note, M-net shows tend to be quite heavily edited to be intense (as a lot of shows are) - thankfully the boy group version of this show is a lot more chill and friendly with the editing, but just another reason to be more mindful about the captions / scenes. I guess it's a repeat of what a lot of people have said, but may be good context for you that - the majority of these groups are quite close, or at least have some members that are close. This is especially true for SKZ, Ateez, The Boys and BTOB. IKON and SF9 are also quite close with each other, and throughout the show all of these groups become even closer... which, aside from the performances and behind the scenes, is one of the best aspects.

btw Hongjoong is indeed the leader of Ateez. He's the rapper, singer-songwriter, and composer of Ateez and actually my bias in this group haha. You already reacted to him when you did Mayfly cause he was rapping on this. He's really kind and sweet and didn't mean it that way at all. He meant Stray Kids aren't the best choice to perform number two not that they aren't good performers.

I'm 100% stay cause I prefer their music but i won't lie (and you'll see it too on others episodes) Ateez are as good as Stray Kids regarding performances. I will say maybe judging all of their performances on Kingdom, Stray Kids are a lil bit better than Ateez but Ateez are still a very close second. They're THAT good. Imo 4th groups are just on another level when it comes to concepts/storylines and dances. I love the 3rd gen groups as well ofc (espacially iKON) but well the 4th gen groups just have my heart tbh

The translations did Hongjoong dirty. Haha he's the blonde guy and he's the leader of Ateez. Ateez and SKZ are great friends. He was actually agreeing that they shouldn't pick SKZ to go after them because their styles are too similar and SKZ will be better than Ateez. Hongjoong is a good guy, don't worry. I don't even know much about Ateez, but I do like the members. They are all really respectful and cool and have great relationships with SKZ. :) I'm excited to watch the rest of the episode! :)

Woooooo! Kingdom was such a blast to watch. The only thing that took away from the whole experience for me was that Hyunjin was only in the intro episode and removed from the competition following that for (what turned out to be) false allegations around bullying in his younger years (long and detailed story around this). It was sad not seeing SKZ as a full team. But that aside - the show was great and all the groups are super talented 🙌🏼. I know Ateez is next on your groups to check out. Their range and talent is amazing! But for some reason; I can’t get into their “Pirate” theme. I know a lot of people love the style they’ve created for themselves so I’m interested to see your take ☺️

Many people commented on this but I'm going to swoop in too just to make sure, when Hongjoong said that Stray Kids are not better, he meant the order, not that the boys are not good performers, Ateez and Stray Kids are like best friends, especially Wooyoung and Changbin ❤️ They were trying to figure out who should go next, because Stray Kids would've been too strong after their own performance, considering all the groups. BTOB got it pretty correctly, because Ateez knows how strong Stray Kids' performance is, and their own performance would've been overshadowed by the similar energy that the Kids provide.
