About that HL1 project...

The past week I've been intensely working on this Citadel model along with the Project 17 team lead. What you see here is the highpoly version (around 600K triangles) that I'm keeping for my own use and then we are still working on an optimized, game-ready version (no more than 100K) that would be reasonable to use during gameplay.

This has been on my to-do list since before I started working on Patient Zero and only just got around to tackle it. And I'm beyond excited to do something with it now that it's almost done, so next project I might do an EP1 titlescreen or something showing the moment of explosion. Also, I might do this one in blender. I might be way in over my head but the proper path-traced lighting and essentially limitless potential of blender is starting to seduce me to slowly transition over to it.

Those 2 HL1 projects outlined in the previous post are still very much something I want to do, and I might even do those first. For now though I feel like this is what I would like to focus more on.

Yeah there's something magical to it. There are huge things in this or that sci-fi but the Citadel, with what it represents stands above them all. Edit: Also, if Valve's measurements are to be believed (1unit=1inch) then this is the true scale of the Citadel according to the first map of HLA.

It can be hard to grasp how big the citadel is, even seeing it looming above you in City 17, but something about these images, with those buildings so miniscule next to it... seeing this thing explode would be spectacular.
