As Euron and Melisandre are wont to tell us, power itself flows from the trappings of power, and there's really nothing like carrying Valyrian steel at your hip (or on your head). Just ask Tywin Lannister, it took him some 30 plus years to get his hands on some, and he didn't exactly play fair.

Since Valyrian magic is rooted in blood and sacrifice, what do surmise Tobho's spells entail? He doesn't seem like the type of guy that would sacrifice orphans from flea bottom. Also, the only profession that is cooler than being a wizard or a blacksmith has to be one in which you are a "wizard blacksmith.:
