- Why is ASOS generally considered the most popular of the books?
- Why did GRRM abandon the 5 year gap?
- How the style of ASOS differs from the other books (especially the ending)
- Biggest things we see differently on this re-read given the show, Fire & Blood, and general re-assessments etc.
- Related to the above, new theories or head canon?
- Locations and travel arcs and other patterns and points of interest that are hard to see when going chapter-by-chapter

Just on the 5 year gap, has George said when he started realising it wouldn’t work? As in, did he finish ASoS always thinking there’d be a gap and only realise later? Just seems weird that he’d leave so many major plot points, basically never intending to describe them. I get Jon and Dany ruling for 5 years, I get LF and Sansa consolidating rule in the Vale. But Stannis’s war would surely be over, what happened with the Wildlings, would Stoneheart have run wild for 5 years killing Freys, and Tyrion done whatever in Essos - all effectively off page. So much tasty stuff for examination that I’m perplexed he ever thought it was a good idea.
