Bronze = Primitive weaponry (pre-steel)... Robb is bronze in that he tries to be steel but he's too young/inexperienced... and in Robb's defence of letting Theon go, Cat had given him some poor advice and also apparently not relayed Ned's last instructions to her when she first saw him, so he would have seen her comments about Theon as being more "bad advice from Mum" instead of a well-thought out strategy
