2023-04-24 06:23:44 +0000 UTCYouve now seen this battle between Thalls and Kaleds twice. Here and again in the 12th Doctor story with young Davros. Same war, and Moffat it seems could not resist but to make Harry's line "They'll be using bow and arrows next" come true by having one of the soldiers fire a bow at a biplane armed with lasers, that same mix of old and new tech. Similarly with Moffat coming up with hand mines, seemingy being influenced by the notion that Davros was mutating stuff like the animals from early on, presumably to weaponize them in some fashion, you can see how earlier in the war, when Davros was young, and the science division was not yet so militant and right wing and still focused on developing stuff to win the war, that they might create mutations like the hand mines (they'd also have had slightly more resources than by time Davros was in charge as an adult). It seems everything on Skaro is particualrly suceptible to mutations, particualrly in the presence of radiation or certain chemicals used in the war. I like this as it makes sense on a planet where life can easily mutate that the idea of defending the 'purity' of your species could arise, and that any mutation would be feared cast out or killed at birth. But out of that desire to preserve their Kaled biological purity from mutation they went to xenophobic extremes of seeing any other race, such as the Thalls, as being a threat to that purity too. And from there the rise of a Nazi like Elite who seize control, and who, under Davros' direction, instead of seeing mutation as just a way to make weapons, embrace it and force the mutation of Kaleds to what they think will be their final form, then on to finding a way to make sure that final form will be succesful and dominant, and will be preserved and pure for ever more. And it all started out of fear of mutations, being afraid and scared of differences. As 12 said to Clara of the creation of the Daleks "How scared must you be to seal every one of your own kind inside a tank?" I dont know if you ever listen to audio drama's, but if you do I would recommend Big Finish's 'I,Davros' after this, its in four parts. If you google Doctor Who I, Davros spotify, it is available for free to listen to. It comes highly recommended from me at least!

2023-04-16 14:43:20 +0000 UTCAlmost all of us that is I don't like Dalek stories. I never have. I finally figured out what it is about them. I don't like. It's their voices. The story is well written Yes, but the fact they are in it just ruins it for me.
