Classic Doctor Who 12x02 "The Ark in Space" eps 3-4 full reaction

This is really the first Who story I fully remember from my childhood, and it scared the bejessus out of me! (I was 4 at the time) I started watching at the end of 3's run, but remember very little as I was so young, save finding his car being able to drive on its own the funniest thing Id ever seen, so 4 was really my Doctor. And this story was my first introduction to body-horror, and it hit hard and gave me many a sleepless night- but I was back planted in front of the tv the next Saturday excited to be scared all over again and to be entranced by Bakers Doctor (Incidentally I watched all of 4's first two years in black and white, as we didnt get a colour tv until later in the 70's). The use of bubble wrap painted green seems to be a hangup for some modern viewers, but you have to bear in mind bubble wrap was only invented in the 60's and was not in common use in the UK outside of industrial companies using it, the average person had never seen the stuff so it didnt look like anything we knew, just some weird textured green skin. As a humorous aside to that however apparently the on-set recordings of the larvae crawling about couldnt be used as all you could hear as the actor in the bubble wrap moved about was the popping sound! footnote - the Doctors scarf being the length it is was an accident. The wardrobe lady was handed a bunch of different wools and told to make a scarf, with the intention they'd leave it up to her to pick which colour, fortunately she misunderstood and thought they meant she had to make a scarf using all the wool theyd given her - giving us 4's iconic long multicoloured scarf. This episode bears quite a few remarkable similarities with Alien which was released 3 years later. Ridley Scott who directed Alien worked on Who and was a fan of the show, he was originally tasked with designing the Daleks, but in the end due to being unable to attend filming he had to pass on it and the task was given to his colleague Raymond Cussack.

Fun fact: This is both RTD and Steven Moffat's favourite classic Who story.
