Phone UI Progress

For the last few days I have been following up on the initial texting system I introduced last update. I already had internal support for recording a girls dialogue and logging it for display later, so my work has all been on the UI for displaying this information. The UI itself is now complete and working, and the last big step is to replace the default dialogue box in all of the appropriate events. I've also added support for the MC having both a text conversation interspersed with narration or dialogue with other, physically present girls.

Once the new phone UI is fully integrated I can give it a few final tweaks, like making text has high enough contrast to be read and that the text log auto scrolls, and then I can move onto actually adding texting related content. More on that as it's written!

Getting a good and interactive NPC messaging system running is difficult to do. I can't think of a game that has a really good one, outside of story driven event sequences which are canned responses. A game like CK2 can get a decent variation based on traits, interests, religion and other variables, though those are just background dice-roll picks off of set response lists. Most of those are still just in minor stories, though. Free-form interaction via messaging is something that will take decent AI and presentation. Varying stock responses via stats is a good way to go, though that takes a bit of thought, scripting and writing up front to figure out.
