Experimenting with Acrylic Painting and Collaging

Hi guys :)

Today I wanted to share a couple of paintings that I did in the past week or two. I haven’t practiced any form of physical art in a long time, let alone painting, and I was really itching to try some new things. I’ve been really inspired by oil and acrylic painting with mixed media lately, so I tried making a couple things of my own as a therapeutic practice and for fun. I’m a huge fan of the oil painter Francis Bacon, and there’s another artist I follow on Instagram that I’ve also been loving lately named Tyler Scully (@specters_art). These experimental pieces are pretty directly inspired by those artists, and I had a lovely time making them. My favorite is definitely the middle painting, which was the most recent one I made, so that shows some good improvement! These are quite unsettling, which is sort of par-for-the-course with this style, but I think I was mostly able to convey what was in my head. Been battling a lot of juxtaposing feelings lately, and it was really nice to sit and make something out of those emotions, especially through a new artistic medium.

Have you guys ever made things with these materials before? If so, I’d love to see!

Sincerely,

Casey

i like the sense of movement in the first one, it makes me see fishies swimming in like a stream of water thats being waterbent or something lol. im also curious what the other two represent, especially the last one with the ear. I feel like the ear somehow represents hearing or perception. since its so big on the little guy maybe he's overstimulated or just overperceiving things in some way. you did a good job incorporating the collage elements as well, they feel like they belong inside the painting.

These are pretty cool honestly, most i’ve ever done with painting is only miniature painting. Stuff like this is low key intimidating to start/try

These all look great! Excellent work Casey

Paradox Hunter

They all look so dope!! The middle one details are insane (plus reminds me of the “this is fine” meme 😂)

Avalanche

I want the one on the bottom right as a pet. Can I name him Rodger? Also, seeing some influences in the designs from HR Giger and in the background from Edvard Munch and Salvador Dali. I think that it's wonderful.

I love seeing new artists express themselves through experimenting with different styles and mediums! I used to do a lot of painting with acrylic and oils, but lately I've been a gouache girly haha. Can definitely see your inspirations shining through these pieces ✨💕
