hey ya'll, if you saw on my story I've been fighting for my life this week. I had a ton of plans for happy99 but both Dom and I got sick causing our entire workforce of 2 to stop dead in the water. I've been working extra hard to get this drop in before the holidays because every year, we always drop way too late (like late January) so we've been hauling ass to make this year more on-time.
I'm vertical finally, so I'm able to work a little. I may just try to make a really cool promo image in place of like a flashy video with music and animation like we usually do. I really wanted to end 2021 with a bang but it's looking... very unlikely. Dom is still stuck horizontal and feverish so if we pull something off by Sunday or even just... you know drop clothes like a regular brand, just know your girl is working overtime!
the model kit I was working on right before I got sick is the VOLKS VR02 RVR-14 Fei-Yen [RNA SIDE] 1/100 Plastic Injection Kit ! It's not as easy as other kits I've done so make sure you have really good pliers (these are super sharp and make it WAY easier) and some cement glue (I used super glue which is harder to use).

Some pieces will fit but they won't stick firm so you'll have to glue them in place. You'll also be asked to paint certain areas for if you want it to be more accurate. I just used a tiny model kit brush and Angelus leather paint because it's an acrylic paint that dries more evenly and less bumpy. I also just have it on hand.

I also used a gundam marker I'ver had in packaging for like 5 years but I wish I had this newer guy that's supposedly shinier. I haven't added the water decals yet but the build took me a day.

I normally avoid bootleg figures like the plague... unless they're 1/4 scale bunny girls lmaooo normally these things are in the hundreds of dollars... but I got a Belldandy one and Kurisu (Stein's Gate) one and I'm not mad. Belldandy does lean to the right like nobody's business meaning I'll probably have to go in with hotglue or something to fix her but their both not bad for dupes. I paid about ~$30 for Kurisu and ~$50 for belldandy? Bootleg molds usually look awful because figures are often made at teeny 1/6 or 1/8 scale but at a huge 1/4 scale (they're almost 2 feet tall) there's less room for error.

I got a ton of people asking about where Dom got these charms and honestly, they're called slide charm bracelets and he was able to get them in a store that does it in San Francisco Chinatown. I'm not sure where but I've actually been to this store years ago, it's probably on Grant like on the most touristy of streets. If you're no where near SF like me, there's always ETSY and the internet! I searched Aliexpress for the same letters and found a silver version as well as random cute charms that are similar in likeness. There's bound to be more but you get the drift.

Another find Dom got recently that inspired me to get into a new medium for like 5 minutes was this Kirby book. It's pretty neat, covers a lot of Kirby styles but we both were inspired to try working with polymer clay after seeing the clay Kirby stuff. The different 3D styles they explore are neat too. I made a little random head with our trucker hat on it but had to stop working on it once I got sick.

I also got a Catherine figure by FuRyu that's super affordable because I love this game to pieces and will never ball out on the expensive one haha. As a fun bonus, I learned that you can take an X-acto knife to the side of her clothes and peel her clothes off.... if you want.

that's all for now! I'm still recovering from being sick so my brain is like scrambled eggs but I'm excited for the last happy99 drop of the year!!!
peace~~!!
