PSYCHO-PASS Season 1 Episode 1 Reaction

PSYCHO-PASS Season 1 Episode 1 Reaction

Yay, you're watching it and I'm finally catching up with your stuff! Fig hopped up to listen too, I'll send you the picture. :) I think we forgot about the fact that the guy in question was using drugs, which is probably why he was flagged, and also why he ran instead of going to therapy and wasn't paralysed when he was initially shot. (I forgot about it until I went back to rewatch the beginning.) So technically, he was already a criminal, but he likely could have gotten help if he hadn't run or gone further off the edge. I love this show because it's very dark and explores a lot of different themes like you were talking about. It goes into depth on each character and why they think the way they do and how society has evolved to rely on this obviously flawed system, and I think it's fascinating. I would say maybe watch another episode or two if you're interested at all and then judge it from there. The first episode packs a whole lot into a short amount of time and it needs a little more space to breathe. (It's also written by one of Japan's premier storytellers, Urobuchi Gen. He's done a ton of critically acclaimed stuff but his work is very dark.) I would also say that it's okay to only watch the first season, I've watched all three seasons and one of the movies and tbh I think the first season is best as it is. If you watch the whole season and you're really into the world, definitely go ahead and see more, but I certainly won't be upset or blame you if you stop after season one.

YEs I thought of that, AI can definitely be hacked or even worse, controlled by the government. All people really need to know how to do is be calm and they'll scale the system every time. This is super flawed but really interesting

Ah, interesting world, right? Something like Minority Report, where an AI of some kind, called Sibil (which is the name of an ancient Greek oracle/prophet) constantly oversees humanity and judges their emotional/psychological state. If you can't keep yourself under emotional control, you are considered a threat. If you refuse therapy to get yourself under control, you are "clearly" wanting to be a criminal because why would any sane person refuse help to stay sane? As we see in the first episode, it's not always perfect or right...maybe. That woman might be psychologically screwed up permanently. But at least now she gets the chance to try. And there's the question of criminals who can strictly regulate their emotions enough to pass as okay. This one is fascinating and very dark cyberpunk - the crimes they deal with are weird, mind-bending, violent, gory at times, and frustrating. If Sibil is corrupt...how do you deal with it? I've only watched season 1, and I think it's fine to stop there if you don't want to commit to all the seasons and OVAs/movies.
