Happy to be back! Oh wow, this explains so much It's sad that they don't explain these things out properly in the anime, I'd have loved to atleast feel bad for Xue Yang even for a little bit. Oh well! happy he's dead now though, less trouble for my babies

I think Xue Yang always admired Xingchen but also thought he was a fool for being too naive to the darkness in some people and extremely harsh on those who break the rules (at least before all the shit happened). When they met again, Xue Yang first thought he would do something nasty to Xingchen but then Xingchen was so nice to him and he had fun playing family...he lost his focus on revenge and forgot the whole situation was built on lies. It was like - this was the life Xue Yang could have had for real if, instead of being beaten by Senior Chang, he'd met someone like Xingchen (the way Wuxian was rescued by Fengmian) and made a new family and friends. Song Lan discovering them brought the whole thing crashing back to reality and Xue Yang remembered his revenge plot. Also, I think he resented Song Lan for ruining his perfect little pretend-life. So...he reverts back to his original self - cruel, so cruel, and angry and hurt and lashing out at everyone. He's shocked to the core when Xingchen kills himself. I don't think Xue Yang is rational at this point. He somehow wanted to make Xingchen pay for...discovering the truth, for making Xue Yang actually like him, for instantly turning on him when the truth came out. Xue Yang is such a mess. The only thing he can come up with is to bring Xingchen back as a fierce corpse and then...go back to playing house and/or forcing him to kill innocent people. He can't accept/admit that he loved Xingchen so he makes up excuses to try and keep Xingchen as a part of his life. Xingchen's soul is so damaged that he can't be brought back but Xue Yang hopes Wuxian can somehow make it happen. This is one of the most complicated and sad stories I've ever read. The donghua had to cut out a lot of the "family time" they had together and rushed through the explanations for everything but even the book version felt like it should have been a whole novel of its own, better fleshed out, rather than crammed into MDZS. Oh well. Now we know that the Tiger Amulet has been restored and Xue Yang had it but now...Jin Guangyao probably sent the masked guy to grab it.
