2021-09-08 16:45:22 +0000 UTCIt’s okay to be confused. The plot itself seems to be chaotic just because we don’t know all of the backstory behind the main character. The animators put a little bit of it in the ending of this episode, but it still might not clear all the stuff up. Basically, in the universe of this story there used to be (around 800 years ago) an ancient kingdom “Xian Le”. The crown prince of this land was called Xie Lian — our main character. He was well-known for his good deeds and martial skill, so that’s why he ascended to Heaven at a young age. But then the disaster came to his kingdom, so Xie Lian took the liberty of going down to the Martal Realm to save his land (without avail), and for that he was banished from Heaven for the first time. And even after trying to ascend for the second time, Xie Lian got demotion just half an hour of ascension. That’s why everyone proclaimed “Not you again!” in the beginning of this episode. The story starts with Xie Lian ascending to Heaven for the third time. He doesn’t have enough mana, weapons and good reputation to compete with other gods, and that’s the reason why everyone is mocking him from the start. Heavenly Official’s powers and rank depend heavily on their merits, which could be estimated in the number of worshippers, temples etc. To earn these merits (and pay for broken palace and bell) Xie Lian had to take the case of a ghost bridegroom and kill it ASAP. A man in red robes, who got Xie Lian out of the carriage is probably not the ghost bridegroom and you’ll hear the explanation in the next episodes. The author likes to confuse her viewers and readers, so you have to get used to it.😅 Also, there’ll be no romance between that girl and Xie Lian, but WILL BE between Xie Lian and the man in red robes, lmao. And, please, don’t worry about the names. You’ll get used to it eventually, it’s the nightmare of all people, who start watching donghuas.
