Chapter 40 - I am Spider Tobey
Added 2025-03-09 17:27:43 +0000 UTCWhile we were looting the bandits we had defeated, we started talking.
"Should I add points to street fighting or save them for other skills?" Gwen wondered aloud.
"I think I'll put my points into street fighting. After all, in this world, my focus is on fighting. Besides, the higher our level, the more points we’ll get, so we can specialize in various things. But it will take a while, so we should try to focus on one area at the beginning," I said.
"I think I'll focus on tech engineering, even though my affinity is greater in biological science. But I think it's better to improve my fighting skills for when I become Ghost Spider in this world. But street fighting doesn’t suit Ghost Spider... I think I'll learn ballet," Gwen said, revealing her future choice.
"Gwen, you're the only person in the world who considers ballet a martial art!" MJ said, laughing at her sister.
"Bah! When you have super strength and super reflexes, the best martial art is a dance. Besides, if I invest enough points in ballet, it will be deadly!" Gwen exclaimed, defending her point of view.
They were just joking. In our home world, MJ also fights using ballet when she's bored. We are all masters of various skills in our world, including ballet.
"I plan to specialize in programming and hacking. As for martial arts, I'll go with Krav Maga," MJ said with a bloodthirsty smile. Don't be fooled by MJ—she is fierce.
"I'll go with Krav Maga too, it suits me. For specialization, I'll choose biological science, since everyone else is picking something different," Emily said, smiling like MJ.
The truth is, we all have specializations in these things. I gave them super brains and an AI Chip—it’s very easy to learn. But everyone has areas where they have more affinity, and now they're choosing the opposite.
And last but not least, Ursula. "I'll go with Aikido and Medicine. Even though it overlaps a bit with Emily, we can work together," Ursula proposed.
"Of course, Ur," Emily smiled and jumped to hug Ursula.
"And you, Pete? Are you only going to specialize in fighting?" MJ asked, curious.
"Well, in our world, I was always studying everything. And now that we’ve nerfed our super brains to the capacity of a normal person, it will be much harder to level up our skills through study. But I do plan to go to college in this world, since we didn’t in ours out of laziness and because we already knew everything," I said.
We discussed it a bit more and came to the conclusion that it would be fun to go to college without knowing everything.
Kind of ironic—while many want to know everything, we're nerfing ourselves to know nothing.
"So we need to level up more so MJ can get some hacking skills and arrange papers for us," I said.
I then added points to the street fighting skill, while the girls decided to save their points.
'Status,' I ordered in my mind.

Upon upgrading the skill, I felt my physique become stronger, like a street fighter who had fought long enough to reach the apprentice level.
"Let's move on. Let's see if we can find some more experience points," I said with a mischievous smile.
We kept going for another 10 minutes before encountering 10 more guys surrounding us.
Just like before, we caught them by surprise. This time, I was much faster—two punches, and two guys were already unconscious. As I rushed toward the third, he started realizing what was happening and reached for his weapon.
I dealt with him quickly, without needing to use my head this time.
Looking around, I saw that the girls had just taken down the four they had targeted.
Three were left, and they had already drawn their weapons and started aiming.
I ran towards the one aiming at me while making evasive maneuvers and trying to stay in his blind spot.
The girls, in groups of two, each picked a target.
I was the farthest from my target, so he had time to take a shot, which, thanks to a bit of luck and my evasive skills, only grazed my arm.
I quickly reached him and sent him to dreamland with an uppercut to the jaw.
The girls swiftly finished off their targets too. Fortunately, they were close, so there were no more gunshots.
"Whew, that was close!" I said with a smile, sweat on my forehead. It was from adrenaline and exhaustion.
"Pete, you're bleeding on your arm," Ursula said, worried. She ran over to a bandit, tore a piece of his clothing, then came back and started wrapping my wound.
"It's just a little cut. And isn't this cloth you got kind of dirty?" I joked about the bandit being filthy.
"I picked the one that looked the least dirty!" Ursula defended herself.
Then we started laughing and joking around.
"We should stop for today. The gunshots will attract more bandits, and it’ll be hard to deal with them if too many gather," Gwen said while searching the bandits' pockets.
"Gwen is right, let’s get out of here quickly!" I agreed.
We quickly looted the bandits and ran out of Hell’s Kitchen.
As I ran, I checked the system.
