Chapter 27 - I am Spider Tobey

Whitebeard wasn’t as injured as in the original, and because Emily was there, the marines were intimidated and unsure how to proceed.

Well, it seems Teach miscalculated, and right now, he’s getting beaten up by Whitebeard.

"Whitebeard doesn’t have much time left. But what the hell is that damned woman doing here?" Sengoku said, watching Whitebeard's battle against Teach, then looking at Rogue with concern.

Even though Whitebeard was seriously injured, Teach was not having a good time, especially since Burgess’s head had been blown up like a watermelon, and Shiryu lay motionless on the ground, his limbs and torso twisted in unnatural directions.

What frightened Sengoku even more was Catarina’s sudden escape after witnessing her recent companions die before her eyes. There is no loyalty among pirates like them.

"Damn you, you wretched monster! Why won’t you just die?!" Teach screamed, frustrated and desperate.

Luckily for Teach, Whitebeard finally stopped moving.

"Emily!!" Whitebeard shouted. "I know I have no right to ask this of you, but my family is above any pride I might have. Could you take care of them for me? This... is just the excessive request of a dying old man." Whitebeard spoke with sincerity, bitterness, and pleading in his voice.

Emily's eyes were red at that moment, seeing how he cared more about his family than his pride as a pirate emperor.

"You old bastard, asking me for something you know I won’t refuse. You owe me!! So pay me back by answering one question!" Emily shouted back.

"Gurarara, I knew I could count on you, Emily. Ask your question, and I promise I will answer what I know." He laughed at first, then spoke seriously.

"My question is: do you laugh like that because you ate the Gura Gura no Mi?" Emily asked.

Everyone who had been eavesdropping with curiosity froze upon hearing the absurdity of her question. That included me. Haah This Emily never changes.

Whitebeard was also shocked, but he quickly regained his composure and let out a thunderous laugh.

"Gurararararararara! That’s your request? Gurarara, you never stop surprising me, do you, girl Emily?" he said, then continued with a face that seemed to be reminiscing about the past:
 "Ever since I can remember, I’ve always laughed like this. Because I have giant blood, my laughter always made things shake. I guess I unconsciously started laughing with the word ‘shake’—gurararara. Now that I think about it, maybe it was fate leading me to obtain the Gura Gura no Mi. Did I answer your question? Gurarara!"

"Yes. Don’t worry about your children, Pops. I will protect them from the big wolves of this sea. Shurararara!" Emily said, laughing, but her face was full of tears. She even called him Pops. I think the death of this great and kind giant shook her a bit.

"Gurarara, I know. I’ve always trusted you," Whitebeard said, laughing, but then he became serious.

"Marco, from now on, you are the captain. If you ever face great troubles, seek out Emily, but I prefer that you all grow strong so you won’t have to bother her.
 Ace, this is not your fault, but if you still believe it is, then repay your supposed debt to me by fulfilling my request... Be happy, you deserve to live!
 And one last thing... my children, thank you. You are the treasure I always searched for and always wanted to protect!! You have given me everything!! Unfortunately, this old body will no longer be able to take care of you. huff huff"

He then looked at Teach and the marines and said—
 "Teach, you were definitely not the one Roger was waiting for. Just like those who inherited Roger’s will. Just as Roger inherited the will of those before him. He then lifted his naginata, slammed it into the ground, and declared with all his strength:

"YOU FIEND!!!" Sengoku shouted, extremely furious. He never expected Whitebeard to cause him so much trouble with just five words.

Because of those words, Sengoku hesitated no longer and attacked.

Knowing this could be dangerous for his children, Whitebeard created a massive canyon, leaving himself alone with the enemies.

After an intense battle, Whitebeard was finally killed. And unlike in the original, Teach was forced to flee with the arrival of the marines, meaning he never got his hands on the Gura Gura no Mi. Well, not that a real Gura Gura existed anyway—it was just nanorobots that would leave the body carrying the source of the power and transform into a fruit somewhere random.

Unlike the original, Shanks didn’t have to arrive to end the war since Emily was there. But there could have been some confrontations. Fortunately, he arrived with his "Face Fruit" and managed to get a face so he could take Whitebeard’s body back and completely stop the war.

Thus, the War of the Best came to an end.

And just like Roger, Whitebeard’s body was burned along with his ship, the Moby Dick.
