Chapter 26 - New Life in God of War
Added 2025-03-08 15:04:44 +0000 UTCA man in the middle stepped forward, approaching the giant wolf that had stopped.
“Well, well, there were rumors that four people, riding a giant winged wolf, were helping the souls of Vanaheim. It seemed to be true, so I came to see for myself,” the man said with irony and a calm smile on his face. However, his trembling legs slightly betrayed his courage in front of the enormous winged wolf.
Silence fell for a moment, and the man heard no response. But soon, his answer came in the form of a sword streaking through the sky and landing in front of him, piercing the ground halfway through its blade.
The man recoiled in shock at the sudden attack, and his men took battle positions.
But then, he froze, recognizing the sword’s style.
“A Valkyrie’s sword!” His eyes widened, as the new Valkyries were under Odin’s command.
And then, he froze again, as out of nowhere, a figure appeared standing on the sword’s hilt.
“I-I-Is that you, sister?!!” the man shouted, both scared and overjoyed.
“Freyr, you idiot! Why did you jump in front of a giant winged wolf carrying four people who probably used their strength to tame said wolf?! And with only five people!!” Freya didn’t give Freyr any chance to think or rejoice at reuniting with his sister; she immediately began scolding him fiercely.
Once Freyr recovered from the shock, he felt tears well up in his eyes as he saw his sister reprimanding him for his own good—just like she always did when they were young.
He ran forward and hugged her tightly.
Freya hugged him back, finding peace in her heart. She also remembered Freyr’s sacrifice in the game and hugged him even tighter.
After a few minutes, they let go.
Freyr wiped his tears and spoke.
“I thought you were dead. If I had known you were alive, even if I had to invade Asgard, I would have found you,” Freyr said, feeling guilty for what his sister had gone through.
“I know, Freyr. It’s all Odin’s fault; I don’t blame you, brother. Besides, I have already found my prince who saved the princess,” Freya said, teasing at the end.
Freyr shook his head at the first part, his hatred for Odin growing even more. But when he heard the last part, he was confused.
“Hello, brother-in-law!” Hyperion’s voice echoed from above as he jumped down from Nymeria’s head and landed beside Freya.
Shock crossed Freyr’s face.
“Y-YOU GOT MARRIED AGAIN?!!!” Freyr shouted in disbelief.
“Yes and no. My husband is very powerful, he…” Freya began explaining the intricacies of the situation and what had happened during that time. The more Freyr listened, the more shocked he became.
What Freyr didn’t know was that Freya was deliberately summarizing everything quickly. If she gave him time to react, he would stop her from telling the story and invite her to eat while they talked. She had no desire to eat whatever Freyr prepared here in the forest, but refusing would be a bad first impression after such a long time apart. So, she decided to tell everything quickly while her brother was still in shock.
It’s easy to go from poverty to luxury, but it’s hard to return from luxury to poverty—and Hyperion’s chamber food was the purest luxury.
“I wasn’t at your wedding, so I don’t know if my memory was erased and I only remembered the fact after brother-in-law changed reality, but I believe you, sister!” Freyr said seriously after hearing Freya’s short yet astonishing narration.
Freya felt a bit emotional seeing that her foolish and simple brother hadn’t changed. Although, she was also worried that he hadn’t changed.
“Well, now, could you answer my question, foolish brother?” Freya asked.
“Of course, sister. What is your question?” Freyr asked with a smile.
“Why… in Helheim… DID YOU SURROUND A GIANT WOLF WITH ONLY FIVE MEN?!” Freya nearly growled.
Freyr shrank back, not knowing what to say.
“Well… you see, there’s a former companion in my group, and he said that he saw from a distance that four people riding a giant winged wolf the size of Garm were wandering Vanaheim helping the Vanir souls. So I believed him and came to make sure they wouldn’t harm our home,” Freyr said, a little embarrassed.
Freya’s anger lessened upon hearing this. Her brother was a fool, but he was kind and valued the people important to him more than his own life.
Then, a female dark elf stepped forward and spoke.
“So-and-so said he saw a giant winged wolf wandering Vanaheim helping souls. Freyr mocked him and said he was drunk. So-and-so challenged Freyr to go looking for the wolf to prove it, as he is a man of his word. Freyr panicked when he saw the giant wolf up close coming toward him, and that scene happened. Now, could you answer me— is it true that you brought peace to Alfheim? I received messages from my friends in Alfheim saying that a new king and queens, riding a giant wolf, brought peace and prosperity to my people.”
The elf narrated everything without concern and revealed her real reason for joining the conversation.
A male light elf behind her looked anxious and hopeful for an answer.
Freyr’s face turned pale when he heard what the elf said. He turned his face rigidly toward her, with the word "betrayal" written all over it.
“FREYR!” Freya shouted angrily—she hated being deceived. She had somewhat of a trauma about it after Odin.
