"Hip Hop saved my life" is written from the perspective of a young up and coming Houston rapper. Around this time Houston rap was really mainstream so he used a southern type beat and chopped and screwed the "stack that cheese" lines to emulate something that a rapper from Houston would actually write. A bunch of Houston rappers make cameos in the video. Bun B from UGK is standing next to him in a few shots, Paul Wall, Willie D from the Geto Boys and Slim Thug are on the posters. So when he refers to "driving up to Dallas", he's referring to the drive from Houston to Dallas which is like 3+ hours, still quite a long trip just to open up for amateurs lol
