Any chance of coming back to do another Smino review?

Map Meezy

you gottaaa listen to blckswn now such an amazing project, I'm not sure if its his debut but it definitely was the project that led me to my love for him and led me to watch him live and wait for the drop of luv 4 rent. So so happy with this reaction, glad you had such a good time listening like the rest of us !! :))

Whya

Woah that’s amazing I never knew that about her

Watching the amazement you get while listening to this makes me genuinely so happy. I've had this album on repeat since it came out & I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did. The production is done very well, and the flawless transitions add so much more. Id be lying if I said I didn't memorize all of the interludes.

ItsKeoks

Wat U Sed is such a great track!

ItsKeoks

also to let you know theres no typical music video but there is a live performance of louphoria on smino's youtube !

Cozy Terry

Love the reaction so much bob! fyi tho, lyrical miracle mainly refers to people rhyming really fast and adding words to rhyme for no reason, like just rhyming things to rhyme things not much sense to the rhymes. Some people love it which is why certain lyrical miracle artists still have a loyal fanbase, but most hiphop heads don't like it, I'm pretty indifferent but not a huge fan. Love the reaction!!!

Whya

Glad you got around to Smino. Super talented. Hope you get around to blkswn and NOIR. Curious to see which one would be your favorite

King Capital

Favorite reaction yet!!!!!!! I had no idea this album would be this amazing, this was exactly what i wanted to hear so you put me on - i loved smino’s older music but never got around to hearing this but WOW its his best yet. And YES that Doechii feature is amazing, Doechii herself is amazing and ALWAYS steals the show including on Isaiah Rashad’s album

Dylan Grieb

Yea, this album is incredible. I played the shit out of it when it came out last year. You hit it on the head, the melodies, flow, lyrics are all top notch and I really love how Smino can adapt to any beat. You definitely did over analyze in the beginning/middle but it's all good. FYI, Noname, Smino, and Saba have a supergroup called Ghetto Sage. I've been waiting for awhile for you to get to Saba but he's the last one left except for maybe Mick Jenkins of the semi-underground CHI rappers. Can't wait until you finally get to Care for Me.

BCros2390

Mick Jenkins is criminally slept on. Easily one of my favorite artists. And I'm sure he will be getting to the Saba album in due time. I know he's mentioned it a few times. It's also an amazing album. Can't go wrong with either artist.

Wesley

I remember when this came out and it was getting a lot of buzz but I forgot to check it out for whatever reason. So I'm listening to it for the first time with you. Oh man this is amazing I can't believe I skipped it. Blonde vibes with some Awaken my love and JID like flows. it feels kinda underrated now

Mohammad Moeladawilah

Fuck yeah Bob! A bunch of artists came out of Chicago area (Smino originally from St. Louis) around the same time and they're all dope. You've checked Chance, Noname, and Smino but Mick Jenkins and Saba are also def worth a listen

swanronson

Also if you ever did Malibu by Anderson Paak, I would lose it

Demo

You hit the nail on the head with Jpeg ! I always thought this as well lol and same thing with your JID take. Smino is one of my favorite artists!!

Demo

Regarding "lyrical miracle" rappers, they don't necessarily have to be rapping fast (although they tend more likely to be), they can be rapping slow as well. It's more of the idea that they are overcomplicating and just filling bars with words that rhyme, often just to fit the rhyming structure and not actually saying anything when you break it down. It often accompanied by them also having a very old head elitist mentality of either new or mainstream music/artists being bad and how they are saving the rap game

Matt

You've gotta check out the song Baguetti, its Smino, JID, and Kenny Beats

Nate17

absolutely no misses over that album, all 3 are so good

austin

Blkswn for sure too! No skips on pretty much all three albums overall for me. I am a huge fan of pretty much all the music this guy does. Has a way of hitting the perfect pockets

austin

Agree 100%. Isaiah isn’t exactly like Smino but he creates a similar vibe in a different way. I think Bob would love him.

VeganMilk

Bob could u please react to his 2018 Album NOIR? It’s my favorite of his and would love for u to listen to it, Love your videos!

Infinitemike

Shoutout to whoever chose this 🫡 Love this album

Jovany

So glad you enjoyed this album it is fantastic. Also fun fact smino & Denzel Curry are cousins I think

Mr. Bigweld

please react to blkswn, it's more so a compilation album that showcases his versatility, i think you'll really enjoy it

diego aguilar

Glad you enjoyed the album Bob! This album has been one of my favorites recently. I don't know if it warrants a reaction, but you should also check out the "Lee & Lovie" video (https://youtu.be/YPI7kZpmepE) as the video is literally the album cover!! Not a re-creation, it is straight up just the album cover and I don't think I've seen any other album do something like that.

opDavi1

P.S. Malibu- Anderson .paak soon plssss

Joe

Dude Bob I’m so glad you liked it I thought you would never get to this album but I knew you would love it. Smino has edged his way into my top 5 artists with every new release(not just a rapper too versatile). His first two albums are great fun too but Luv4rent definitely the most cohesive

Joe

Excited for you to get into Smino. I first heard of him on Isaiah Rashad’s last album a couple years ago and I’ve been obsessed since. This was probably one of my favorite albums of last year. Smino does a good job at making the really complex stuff sound effortless. Really funny and good one-liners. Rapping and singing. Unique flows. Very fun but also mellow and introspective when he needs to be. He’s good at pretty much everything. Impossible not to like him at least a little. Super consistent too. Only three albums and they’re pretty much all great. My favorite is his debut “blkswn” (pronounced black swan). Definitely check that one out if you want to hear more from him. Also Doechii is great super underrated.

VeganMilk

im so happy you love smino bob ! this was my aoty last year. you explain exactly why hes so amazing. i was scared you might not appreciate it but you did lol

Cozy Terry

Don’t know if people have requested it but Malibu - Anderson .paak is an absolute underrated gem so vibrant and full of great instrumentation, some soul and r&b plus he’s a great singer/rapper and an even better drummer !!

Joey

Do the new NAS!!!!

CRASH

🥹 finally...

Pretty Gordo

Smino is definitely worth a listen. All his projects are good and hes a notorious feature killer....whoever asked who was asking for this is a bum. His verse on Isaiah Rashad's The House is burning album is one of my favorite features in a long time. He just glides on that thing so smooth

John

Bob's introduction to Smino and Monte Booker.. probably one of my favorite hip hop duos ever. I need the blkswn reaction now. Only person who comes close to this sound is Isaiah Rashad sometimes. But both are in lanes of their own, nobody making music like them. Both of them also have this amazing ability to get featured artists to match their energy. Idk if I can explain this correctly, but I feel like most features are rappers hopping on a beat and approaching it the way they usually do. But when they are on a Smino or a Zay track, sometimes it feels like they are approaching the beat the same way Smino or Zay would.

Antonio

“This is cool 😎” fuck yeah it is bob!

Jorge Campos Jr.

Just started watching. Paused to say its funny you mention that Telefone sounds like you're chilling in a bookstore given the only other patreon I support is Noname Book Club. She has a radical literature community library in SoCal and also has sent thousands of books to incarcerated folks. Can't wait for her new album which comes out really soon!
