I was high when I wrote that so I didn’t know if it was going to come out coherent or not, I’m glad someone agrees lol

Yeah you put it perfectly. Like if you just listen to the way people refer to it as "lyrical spiritual miracle", that phrase in itself is just three words that sound similar together and might sound nice in a rap but don't actually mean anything. It's common to hear verses all over the place in subject matter and that's cool but the phrases/clauses too? It just comes across like someone that's saying a whole lot of nothing. Might as well be rapping out of Dr. Seuss book lol. Idk about Joyner but Eminem def does this quite a bit in recent years

David Reynolds

Well first I wouldn’t put someone in the category at all. I don’t think it’s a category of rapper I think it’s a category of ‘ways to approach a verse’. It is specifically referring to someone using a complex rhyme scheme and fast delivery to make up for/ hide a lack of substance. I would say “ went full spiritual lyrical miracle on THAT verse”. I think there are objective ways to see if a verse is nonsensical just based on sentence structure, how the words relate to each other etc. Based on that I would definitely say Eminem and Joyner do this more often than Black Thought and Lupe. So I think think that’s why people are quick to put them in that category, although I wouldn’t do that personally

Bobby porter

Fair. But Who would you say are some examples of this? I see some people throw all types into this category. That's just bogus and made up. I've seen people say Em, Joyner. Guys like them that are clearly not just saying nothing. Hell, I've even seen people say Black Thought or Lupe just because they aren't getting it. That's crazy talk. Every line from those two make sense. So just curious who you would put in that category.

Jared

Hey Bob just some clarification on the “spiritual lyrical miracle” concept- it has more to do with rapping fast for the sake of rapping fast, and not ACTUALLY SAYING ANYTHING. Rapping fast is fine. It’s when they’re choosing words solely for the fact that they rhyme and nothing more- is the issue

Bobby porter

I never thought he'd react to this but I'm soooo glad he did
