Reacting to "Live.Love.A$AP" by A$AP Rocky

Direct Play Link: https://iframe.mediadelivery.net/play/27377/1b008ee6-c341-4279-921e-bb0533b64e94

Two warnings on this one:

First, the sound is LOUD at the start of the first track. That's a Soundcloud thing I was not prepared for. I dial it back, but beware headphone wearers.

Second, the Soundcloud version was beats only for "Houston Old Head" and "Roll One Up," but I do re-listens to both of those tracks via the streaming version. Timestamps are embedded in the video.

Enjoy!

U gotta check out his other albums

Carti Yeat

Cantaloupe.

That guy on the left is Ty Beats!!!

Jorge Campos Jr.

Also if you go into Rocky’s later catalog you will find AMAZING music videos!!! This being his first you can see their pretty simple but later on his videos are so sick!!!

Ty

Bob I’m a fashion designer, lol lets get a Bob’s Friday Fits segment going I got you hahaha. But just to help you and whoever really cares, most people do get really confused with fashion, and fashion week and they feel they “don’t get it”. Fashion week and fashion shows are more artistic then anything. Probably 65% of the clothing on the runway you see doesn’t even get produced. Think of it as you would a JPEG Mafia album, its not for the masses or something to bump with everyone and some tracks may not have replay value but you get to experience an art form. Or an art gallery, you don’t go in thinking would this look good in my living room, you go in to see the work from someone’s artistic vision. Lol again probably no one really cares but thought I would shed some light on it. Love the channel, love the video, Rocky is a G, keep it up poppop

Ty

Since you enjoyed this I really think you should go through Robb bank’s catalog starting from tha city. Spaceghostpurrp produces on there as welll. Very moody & although there’s typically not a story or anything like that to dig into, there’s some really smart& fun word play thrown out & interesting flows & beats

Remy DeSi

Please bob the poppop 🥺, we're begging you Schoolboy Qs Oxymoron and Blank Face are classics with a good balance of banging and experimental beats with lyricism and grittiness. He was in a group with Kendrick Lamar and was 2nd in line of mainstream before SZA was who she was now. Please 🙏 i would pay top dollar for u to react to those albums, sadly, i dont have top dollar, so ill wait.

Kevin Gonzalez

BOB. Next time you come across an instrumental were gonna need you to kick a freestyle and that is when you can finally be knighted a HipHop head.

Paul Salvador Estrada

requesting schoolboy q blank face RIGHT NOW omg

Cody

Clams casino is so fucking good

Mr. Bigweld

like others said, Testing is a masterpiece you should listen to

ufo

Do testing next!!

Jbo

As most people have stated, his sound drastically matures and changes in future albums. This will always have the nostalgic effect, but it's easily the one I least go back to. I really hope we see the day where you make it to his "Testing" album. It's one of those albums like Yeezus (not saying it sounds like Yeezus) but it was such a shift from his previous sound that it split the fanbase when it came out. It sounds so damn good with headphones though. And I still go back to it decently often. His influences are so vast and show themselves way more in his later projects. I love how you started from the beginning though you would for sure have liked some of his later work far more, but his evolution in music is wild, to say the least. He carved out his own corner and made such a distinct sound. I could totally understand someone older being put off by this record, though you weren't. But as a 36-year-old, his last 2 albums stay in steady rotation and hold a specific purpose for me that not many artists can fulfill. Trippy, confident rap, with underrated flows and syllable wordplay. He gets way more patient in his later work, and the production is far more dynamic. Which, to be fair, is to be expected from any artist who starts young but is always looking to innovate his own sound. I would say the same for Mac. If you were to give a random person his first record, they would not get at all a fair representation of what Mac is capable of. Not to say its a bad album, but as with anything, it grew and matured. I will definitely be anticipating more Rocky down the line!

Wesley

This is a top 10 mixtape of all time. It had the streets on fire when it dropped. You missed the video for Brand New Guy.

Jae

This is his best project long last is close though. Long live is great too

Mr. Bigweld

Live love is better thank long live bruh

Mr. Bigweld

also rocky jacked his whole swag its cool tho

daredevil777

spaceghostpurrp... very influential.. without him hiphop today would be very different

daredevil777

Love that you finally listened to Rocky. For me his best quality is his curation of taste. He comes from NYC but draws from so many cool influences there's really nobody that makes music like him. Hopefully you'll do LongLiveASAP soon!

Alex V

Something about hopping on here and remembering oh right Bob drops today🔥❤️

Lane McDonald

Still really wishing you started with AT LONG LAST ASAP, i think you would of loved it and show ASAP's talent m;ore

Thanks for sharing your experience. I was excited for this because I spam-listened this (free!) mixtape in 2012 & 2013. "Acid Drip" was my favorite jam, entranced as I was by its sensual danger and its out-of-body/second-person perspective. I never thought of the chorus as being about a sex-for-drugs exchange but about the hallucinatory feelings from the drugs and projecting those feelings back onto the dealer. Either way, this song felt truer to the college party scene I was experiencing than his next album's hits, which blared from those frat houses... This mixtape opened me up to a couple of ideas that felt new: (1) the idea of a rapper subtly accentuating the production rather than highlighting his skills or making memorable ear-catchers and (2) the idea of an album as an Artistic Experience. These ideas weren't new! But the best parts of this mixtape were a kind of hypnotic I'd never felt before, real "Listen in the dark and lose your mind" music. Rocky's flow was chill, yet engaging enough to override my basic aversion to rap tropes. Live.Love.A$AP led directly to my first time downloading an instrumental album (Clams Casino's simply titled "Instrumentals 2"). It's funny this was presented to you as a meld of Southern and NY sounds because the New York boom-bap drum sound isn't really here except maybe on the closer, "Out of This World." But it's definitely full of New York references. I'd be similarly stoked to see your reaction someday to the baffling, exhilarating Ol' Dirty Bastard record "Return to the 36 Chambers."

Dareka

Playboi carti is also one of those guys that can dress in almost anything and make it look good

Carti Yeat

Bob if your craving that classic New York sound but current Joey badass is the guy!

Miguel Ojeda

Happy you finally listened to Rocky. Glad it was this project, not the biggest fan, it has some good songs and some meh it's ok for me. But I'm happy as Rocky is a great example of rapper who improves in each project especially lyrical ability. By the third one, some of his verses he is really able to hang with most rappers who are considered some of the best atm. Also he isn't as stylish in these videos as he was just coming up and didn't have as much money. Also as you like Danny Brown, you should check out some interviews with him and Rocky. You wouldn't think it but they really click of each other. Rocky seems to come across as a chill dude. Also fun fact, Rocky real name is Rakeem and his sister is called Erica as his mother was a true school hip hop head and named them after Rakim and Eric B lol

Matt

watching you wait for rocky to start rappin on houston old head lmaoo 💀

Litty Again

IF YOU LIKED SCHOOLBOY Q'S VERSE YOU NEED TO DO "OXYMORON" I THINK YOU WOULD ENJOY THAT ALBUM!! BTW HES ON TDE, SAME LABEL KENDRICK WAS ON!! ALSO STILL WAITING FOR "LIFE AFTER DEATH" :'DD

Tapes

I've never fully connected to this mixtape, it has its moments and I can definitely see why its a classic, but imo long.live.asap (his first album, released after this) and consecutive albums are vastly superior. he's one of those artist that I believe has seen tremendous growth and has become one of my favourites. excited for you to experience his work going forward, I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised.

stillseeghosts

Two Kendrick features actually 🔥

VeganMilk

Enjoyed this reaction. Hope you do Long Live Asap soon because as people have said, that one is loads better. Better production (imo) and overall just cleaner and better put together. Long Live is when he kind of hits the peak of his initial breakthrough, it has features from Kendrick, Drake and Danny Brown.

VeganMilk

When he said I’m waiting for that NY sound, I started laughing 🤣 Rocky was accused of biting southern sound

Josh

Robb bank$ for cloud rap, young thug for a different sound. Ski mask, X, pouya, suicideboys, maybe some emo rap

Josh

Can't wait for at long last asap. One of my favorites

jackthegent

cant wait for bob to listen to live.laugh.love a$ap

The Guy

Highly highly recommend doing LONG.LIVE.A$AP, Rocky really expands on his sound and there's a killer Kendrick feature on one of the tracks. Love the vids as always, been a Patreon sub for nearly two years now

. .

why wouldn’t he listen to hit first? it’s rocky’s first project and shows his origins and how he sounded when he first started. Definitely disagree when you say it’s hit or miss. It’s a classic mixtape for a reason, so i doubt most would agree with you. There’s a couple songs i don’t love, but it’s consistent overall. and Long Live is pretty mediocre in my opinion. there’s some great songs, but he went too commercial in my opinion. I think At Long Last ASAP is way better.

brendon hall

IDK why they told you to listen to Live Love first, it's so hit or miss. Long Live is vastly superior and solves a lot of your issues with this

Ryan Naylor

I think you'd like schoolboy Q. Great stories on his albums, deep at times and he's a fun rapper to listen to.

AlxNetc

Lol whoever gave you the SoundCloud version fucked up. Those two “beats-only” tracks are not part of the original album. Some random guy probably just added in his own shit. A few things went wrong here but that’s ok. For additional listens, I’d recommend just listening to the streaming version on Spotify, and listen to Kissin Pink and Out of This World on SoundCloud or YouTube. Also I don’t know if you saw, but Sandman was recorded 10 years after the original mixtape, for the 10 year anniversary. So that last song you heard is 10 years after everything else, just so you know.

VeganMilk

LFGGGGGGGG

tyger

this sounds like a mix of Ugk, Three Six, Bone Thugs and Drake

james moore

There was a brand new guy video, too

Bobby porter

Nice just have fun type of project

John

So there's a third influence to early ASAP Rocky besides the NY & Southern stuff that you probably aren't familiar with yet; when he does his faster & more melodic flow he's very much so channeling Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, a rap group from Cleveland OH that was popular in the late 90's & early 2000's. This mixtape specifically can be pointed to as one of if not the first indicators that regional Hip-Hop was a thing of the past. I remember when this jont dropped in 2011 this shit sounded like it was from another fucking planet, had never heard anything like it. The Soundtrack to basically my entire senior year of Highschool & the following summer. Hugely influential, classic mixtape for sure. Rocky could've never made another song again after this and he'd still be considered a legend. Also, LONG LIVE ASAP YAMS (Look him up, my comment will be too long otherwise lol)

YetiCoolBrother

Lfg Finally some cloud rap
