Reacting to "SOS" by SZA

Direct Play Link: https://iframe.mediadelivery.net/play/27377/0891c8a1-d71b-4970-b967-0ee2c86c4447

Early morning surprise! I recorded this reaction yesterday due to family coming in this weekend.

Also be aware that it takes me quite a while to warm up to the album, so if you're a huge fan of SOS, please be patient with ol' Bob. Enjoy!

Comments

This was the first time I fell asleep during a Bob React. Would have been better if I wasn't driving in I-95 rush hour traffic 😜 Nah I made it home first, then fell asleep when I sat down to finish the react. But yeah it isn't cuz it's boring or bad exactly but definitely sleepy.

There is an amazing 13-15 song album within this album. Unfortunately I think with streaming artists don't have as much incentive to cut tracks out because more streaming numbers. I do think SZA is a great writer, she could almost be a rapper.

YESSS

Mr. Bigweld

Same! I consider CTRL to be one of my all time favorite records. Every song on it is different and great imo. For this album tho, I've listened to it quiet a bit but.. There's only a handful of songs that I think keeps the same unique feeling to them as the CTRL songs. And this album has received so much more popularity. I think it's just pop value maybe? I dunno, but I def agree with your take.

Didric

trueee! 2000 was great, amongst my top 3 for 2022. I would LOVE to see a B4.DA.$$ reaction tho. Timeless album

Didric

being a 22 year-old woman still grieving a 6 month relationship that ended a year and a half ago i identify a lot to this album lmao. the repetion in the first 2/3 third of the album is accurate, it’s me boring all of my friends over this heartbreak for a year. the awareness and at the same time self-inflicted disrespect shown in the lyrics when she mentions how she always goes back to her ex is also relatable to me. and i think the chorus on forgiveless is a reference to kill bill, she says i’ve told you before it won’t end how you want it to with the i might kill my ex line. to sum it up i just think you’re really not the demographic meant to relate to the lyrics but i love that despite that you still enjoyed some of the music. a lot of people in your case will just view the album as silly heartbreak/love songs

Deney T

i dont think mr moral is safe, especially the content covered, it was a risky album to release, and was met with a lot of controversy

sam

He definitely needs to start on 1999 though

Bobby porter

Interested to hear your thoughts. As a huge fan of her previous albums, Im not a huge fan of this album. Although there are a handful of awesome tracks like the Pheobe bridgers song

sam

This is the result of SZA and her anxiety. I can definitely relate to it. Hell, when i go to buy coffee I can literally sit in the isle for entirely way too long trying to decide which one to get. lol I could only imagine if I had to pick songs over others I had made for an album. lol So as I agree, album wise CTRL is far more accessible and concise, but I also understand why she released so much on this one. It is the perfect album to make your own personal playlists though.

Phoebe named her first album "Stranger in the Alps" after the censored-for-cable line from The Big Lebowski (https://youtu.be/LCcKBcZzGdA), so she's a fan.

Alex VonBerg

are you still having issues? Message me if you are

💀

Bobby porter

2 SZA albums before lil wayne on a rap journey 😭😭😭

Dylan

Also I think you're take aways are spot on. I feel this album is a little bloated and the sequencing isn't great either. If she cut a quarter of the songs off and rearranged it a little it would be solid.

AlxNetc

I'll echo what most of the comments are saying about this album. It's got some great tracks, but overall it's a bloated album. I haven't gone back to it in over a month. Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo gotta be the next TDE album you do. I think you would absolutely love Zay

Alex VonBerg

love this album! Definitely not on my first listen. I felt like that front middle run was just a bit too boring and similar and didn’t really stand out. but now it have some of my favorite tracks on it. I can see why people say it’s too long, but i really think this album has a little bit of everything. And considering this is most likely her last album ever, if not for a very very long time, I feel like she just wanted her fans to have a lot of music before she left.

Jorge Campos Jr.

Now that the honeymoon phase is over, this album is way too long and overall not as memorable as her debut. Btw listen to the black panther soundtrack.

CRASH

It's funny that Mr Morale got the same reaction of it being safe. I think it's unfair on SZA though because she was an innovator in the R&B/Pop field and a lot of people have come out over the years co-opting her style and sound. So now she sounds "safe", even though she really isn't.

AlxNetc

I had a very similar first reaction of the album, then for a while it got better over repeated listens, and now having just listened to it along with you it's back down to "just ok". It feels like there are 5-6 tracks that contain 90 % of the production effort that went into making the whole album. Thinking of Kill Bill, Ghost In The Machine, Shirt and Good Days especially. Compare that to CTRL where (in my opinion) every track is musically and lyrically interesting.

Joonas Puuppo

and also HOLY SHIT NEW SZA REACTION LETS GOOO

Austin

I might get hate for this but you really aren’t missing anything from not listening to Yeat lol. he has some amazing beats sometimes but I just do not get the hype as much as others do, and based on how you feel about WLR I dunno if you would be the biggest Yeat fan lmao, he’s probably honestly going to fade out with music trends

Austin

Mobile or desktop?

CRASH

Another awesome reaction. just want to throw Joey bada$$ out there again. Would be a fun reaction to watch. His release last year “2000” was one of the better albums of the year.

Miguel Ojeda

“By the end I have my whole empire of lies” I almost died 🤣🤣

ryan cortes

This album was too long. This is definitely a pick 10 favorites and let it rock album

John

I’m new to patreon lol. I can’t get the video to start!

BHR TV

Need you to hear Dave's most recent album, it has some powerful tracks

John

Litty Again

I appreciate that when SZA returned after 5 years she gave us a lot of material but kind of wish she had paired it down to a 14 track or so release just for a tighter full listen. But it's surprisingly consistent for being as long as it is and I really can't complain about more SZA rather than less.

Matt C

You literally made my morning I’m obsessed with this album

Surprise Pop Drop!

SlumpJones
