Also, Damien is a metaphor for the demons X was facing between poverty, crime & his drug addiction. They are also stand alone tracks. As far as the energy being interrupted you have to look at the album as energetic/introspective. The slow slongs connected to a lot of people that faced depression, anxiety or ddug addiction. And don’t forget the album title matches the theme of a lot of those songs.

Bob, some extra background to how badass/intimidating DMX’s sound is: Mike Tyson used to walk out to “Intro” before his fights. So imagine being his opponent waiting in the ring, and the arena lights get dim and you hear that songs intro music playing as Mike fucking Tyson starts slowly walking towards you from the locker rooms 😂 there’s a video out there of this, and the commentators are like “what the hell is going on”

The intro is my fav intro of all time . Pretty sure Mike Tyson came out to this intro for a few fights
