hopefully I can circle back to some of Earl's EPs soon, I'd like to hear more from him

2022-10-03 02:13:00 +0000 UTCIt's good for me to read, because you're right about people loving that music. I do tend to write off pop, but I do so in an unfair way since I've never given it a fair chance

2022-10-03 02:12:21 +0000 UTCI was listening to the track again with this in mind and I agree with what you're saying here. There is a level of anxiety that exists with it

2022-10-03 02:10:27 +0000 UTCI'll definitely get to the EPs at some point

2022-10-03 02:08:59 +0000 UTCyeah, if I ever get to that point, I think we'll cover a lot of stuff off camera before we get into any recording

2022-10-02 04:29:27 +0000 UTCPeggy in his absolute bag on this, All My Heroes is still my favorite thing he's put out but his consistency in surprising you is bonkers. Bob, I cannot wait for you to review Earl's next project. Dark, grimy, muffled, addicting beats, and I really think Earl's writing is gonna appeal to you. He steps it up big time in all aspects from Doris.

2022-10-01 08:32:58 +0000 UTCAnother album that's worthy of a reaction is Danny Brown's most recent one "uknowwhatimsayin¿"...Peggy produced one track on there and he's featured on another. Also, Q-Tip executive produced the album and has 3 of his own beats on there.

2022-10-01 07:26:48 +0000 UTCHope this doesn’t sound like I think you’re not taking this seriously, I think you are, but I just feel like pop music and artists like Britney are really important, despite a lot of people writing them off. The way the masses respond to pop music is a real reflection of how people feel/want to feel and I think it should be studied a bit more seriously in general tbh.

2022-10-01 05:53:32 +0000 UTCthe Britney Spears song he’s interpolating was written by Max Martin, who almost has the most number one singles ever written. Only people that beat him are Paul McCartney and John Lennon, he’s a super talented songwriter, most recently co-wrote Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears by The Weeknd. i think Thot’s Prayer is one of my favorite songs on here. I’ve always interpreted the use of the Britney lyrics as the actual prayer itself, and that thots treat Britney Spears like gospel music (the gospel sample at the start and end really drive that home). But I also think he doesn’t mean that as a joke, it’s a very sincere love for Britney, and for women that people would consider “thots.” There’s a sympathetic feeling I get from Peggy in regards to that. While it’s pop music, it’s music that meant a lot to a lot of people, and people found meaning in those words, in the same way that you’re trying to find meaning to them through Peggy’s lens. Peggy has a clear love for pop music, and I never felt he has sampled/interpolated *any* of those songs as jokes. Between this, his TLC interpolation, his Backstreet Boys sample and his Call Me Maybe cover, they all clearly come from a place of passion and those influences are clear in more than just the songs he samples them in. He loves to include pop elements in all his songs!

2022-10-01 05:50:43 +0000 UTCThe Pharcyde sample that is reused on Dikembe and produced by J Dilla is on the album Labcabincalifornia, and it’s an incredible project. I doubt many people will ask you to react to it, but I def recommend you listen on your own time. It was one of the first projects J Dilla did a ton of production on after he co-produced the last two 90s A Tribe Called Quest albums. Pharcyde, while not as commonly cited as Tribe, is in the same sort of rap genre and i love them a ton.

2022-10-01 05:36:07 +0000 UTCYou should definitely listen to the song 100 Shots (the song Peggy sampled/remixed for 💯). It’s by Young Dolph, who was killed about a year ago, and would be a good intro into the more aggressive, street level trap sound.

2022-10-01 05:21:26 +0000 UTCAlso, for the record while I understand the sentiment, in the case of Hit Me Baby One More Time it's well known as the very first of what is currently 25 billboard number-1 singles written by Max Martin, who is DEFINITELY well known (perhaps infamous) for writing and producing on absolutely shitloads of hit songs, for the whole range of big artists. Like I think he's credited on over 150 songs that hit the top-100 since then? And probably not credited formally on at least a few more.

2022-10-01 04:41:21 +0000 UTCGenuinely fights at times for my favorite album of all time, and i will gush about this album at every opportunity until i die. You really connected dots for me when you mentioned that analogy of the molten nickel on ice. as someone whose life has always been kind of turbulent, peggy in general, but this album especially is so cathartic to listen to. TRUST! i think perfectly encapsulates that. i said this in the mp3 thread but ill repeat here in better detail, at the beginning of that song theres a snare in the background that to me sounds like someones hands shaking or their feet tapping, it sounds like anxiety. you put that over these dejected lyrics "im fine, im feeling good, trust", imo it seems like hes lying either to himself or the people around him or both. then towards this end you get this blissful release of keys, then he comes back in without the snare and a much more confident delivery, it seems hes found some level of peace or at least let out the anxiety for a moment. genius song, genius album, genius artist

2022-10-01 01:35:44 +0000 UTCI love how different this album is. Compared to his other work it’s a lot darker, a little more reflective, a little angrier, and it’s still so unbelievably impressive especially from a production standpoint. And yeah it’s hard sometimes to make sense of what he’s talking about (he is with that nonsense after all) but the production and atmosphere that he’s able to create fills it in perfectly imo.

2022-10-01 00:05:48 +0000 UTCI think reacting to the EPs would be a great idea since they did lead up to LP! I don't know how they would fit into your current schedule, but it's more peggy for you to enjoy. Great reaction so far. Thanks Bob!

2022-09-30 23:29:24 +0000 UTCIf you ever get a chance to interview him, make sure you ask beforehand if he’s cool with talking about the military. I think I remember seeing him on a livestream saying he doesn’t like talking about it. But idk could be a time and place thing.
