I think I had the music audio a tad too low, but oh well. Life goes on.

If you loved this Collab, you have to listen to Cruel Summer 100%

2022-04-21 17:48:40 +0000 UTCYou should absolutely do “cruel summer” by GOOD music. It’s a collab album but another one of Kanyes masterpieces. Im almost positive you’ll love it

2022-04-20 01:20:48 +0000 UTCYou mentioned loving Frank Oceans work. I really enjoyed your reaction to Blonde, wondering if Channel Orange was on your radar.

2022-04-18 05:33:18 +0000 UTCLex Luger is one of my favorite producers. He helped in defining that Trap Music sound. What he did on HAM is amazing. Great Reaction!!

2022-04-18 04:50:44 +0000 UTCHere is the official video if you want to do a reaction. I think you should do it. People want to see it. It is pretty special. The video adds to the emotion. https://youtu.be/WibQR0tQ0P8

Dylan Woods
2022-04-17 18:44:26 +0000 UTCGreat stuff Bob! You are really good at this. I like your balance of music and lyric appreciation, and your curiosity to understand what is happening for the artist. This phenomenon of watching someone else experience an artist's work, particularly when it is something that has already lodged a special place in my psyche, is so f-ing satisfying! Maybe its partly validating my own appreciation. Kanye's body of work is special, to alot of people, and going deeper into it with someone like you (or into an in-depth analysis like the Dissect podcast) is like manna from heaven. Keep going Bob! I am happy to be along for the ride. There is so much more goodness coming...
Dave Danesh
2022-04-17 17:12:42 +0000 UTCRegarding Jay reactions i'd skip to Blueprint if doing it in order as albums between RD and Blueprint are pretty mid and dated. Don't get me wrong, i'd definitely recommend listening to them in your free time or coming back around but minus a few good songs on each, you're not missing much. Also if you want to hear more Jay-Z and No ID (Kanye's original mentor btw), then a perfect record would be Jay-Z 4:44. I think you'd really enjoy it as entirely produced by No ID, a much more personal record from Jay and even a cheeky Nina Simone sample for a bonus point
Matt
2022-04-17 16:43:38 +0000 UTCI would love to see a reaction to Only One. It will probably get a lot of views too. Because of how beautiful it is. One of my favourite songs.
Dylan Woods
2022-04-17 15:15:15 +0000 UTCI agree, Cruel Summer was the first step towards that Yeezus sound
snooza
2022-04-17 12:22:28 +0000 UTCAnother good reaction, only thing I'll add is like another comment said it might be worth listening to Cruel Summer, a collaborative album released the year after this (and year before Yeezus) it may not be necessary to give it a video since many don't consider it a "core" part of Kanye's discography, but the album is an important milestone in Kanye's sound and there are a few hits I think you'll really enjoy, if you don't want to dedicate a Kanye month to it like his other albums it might be worth it to just make May a double Kanye month (Cruel Summer + The Life of Pablo, one of my favorites btw)
Lil Mac
2022-04-17 07:21:25 +0000 UTCI would love to see you react to Kanye’s single Only One, it’s often missed by people. It came out between Yeezus and The Life of Pablo, so makes sense for where you’re at in his discography. Kanye did a few songs with Paul McCartney and this is one of them. It’s sung from the perspective of Donda looking down on Kanye from heaven
Callum Smith
2022-04-16 22:16:03 +0000 UTCYou should make a video telling people to join patreon if they want to see Jay Z.
Dylan Woods
2022-04-16 20:57:44 +0000 UTCMan you should do his song “Only one” it’s a single but I’d love to see you reacting to it 🙏🏾
Fernando Ruiz
2022-04-16 19:49:55 +0000 UTCGave me a whole new appreciation for this album, I never really liked it before tbh. But it was really just a victory lap. I think some of the production aged kinda poorly. That said, you def need to do Blueprint by Jay-Z ASAP! No rapper has ever had the confidence, cleverness, charisma of Jay-Z during the blueprint era. While Jay's rapping on watch the throne was pretty good, he was definitely a few years out of his prime. If you want prime Jay-Z over some of kanye's best beats, Blueprint is a must.
Joseph Kiley
2022-04-16 19:23:44 +0000 UTCIt would be great to see The Blueprint but it looks like Jay Z reactions just don't fly on YouTube. Watch the Throne just taken down today.
Dylan Woods
2022-04-16 18:35:18 +0000 UTCI never liked Watch the Throne before. But listening to it with you made me appreciate it more. It has its moments. Fun moments and thoughtful moments. Thanks for that. It was an important moment for hip-hop so it should be appreciated for at least that much. I do think some songs might become irritating over time. I personally can’t stand Lift Off, and I’m not alone. Unlike Drunk and Hot Girls, which I think is underrated both sonically and thematically, Lift Off is paper thin. The problem is the song is so one dimensional and generic. The chorus is copy/pasted three times and it is so tiresome. The verses from Jay and Kanye are so short and worthless. This theme has been approached by both artists in much more interesting ways before and after this song and it is embarrassing that they ever released it. I have a few points that came up during the reaction. 1] Watch the Throne was released between My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). Watch the Throne (2011). Yeezus (2013). 2] My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy received wide-spread critical acclaim upon release. It received 10/10 from Pitchfork, Consequence, The Independent, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly. It had universal praise from both fans and critics and was viewed as Kanye’s redemption. The phoenix had risen from the ashes. https://www.metacritic.com/music/my-beautiful-dark-twisted-fantasy/kanye-west 3] The video you were thinking of is “We Were Once a Fairytale” directed by Spike Jonze in 2009. It was part of the promotion for 808s and Heartbreak. It depicts Kanye making a fool of himself at a bar, before going into the bathroom, where he rips a rodent like creature from his stomach, and watches it perform seppuku. I’ll leave the interpretation up to you. I personally think this short film is better than Runaway. 4] The Neptune’s are a production and songwriting duo composed of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. Kanye greatly admires Pharrell for his production abilities and fashion sense. Pharrell has also worked with Pusha T and Malice as a producer for Clipse. Pusha T is now signed to Kanye West’s label Good Music as a solo artist. 5] H.A.M was produced by Lex Luger. He is most famous for his work on Flockaveli (2010) by Waka Flocka Flame. Waka was signed to Brick Squad, the label of trap music pioneer Gucci Mane. Lex Luger is known for his hard and aggressive production style. Flockaveli is a hugely influential and important album for trap music.

2022-04-16 15:29:45 +0000 UTCI love this album. I feel like It does have a concept literally "watch the throne" We're kings, look how we live. We come from where you come from but look how we think look at what we've done to get here, you can get here too. We're kings and we want to see more kings just like us. "New day" i feel fits that sentiment exactly, yes they're talking about their "sons" but can't they also be speaking to the shorties that are listening to their music as well.
Paul Salvador Estrada
2022-04-16 15:15:43 +0000 UTCYeah I loved this
Jay Dog
2022-04-16 15:12:35 +0000 UTCGreat reaction... I hadn't heard WTT in years but got a renewed appreciation for a lot of its high-mindedness about their position in thr world. I remember news about them two building a whole studio in a hotel room somewhere for a month to make this album. And they would play that "individuals in Paris" :'D song multiple times in a row at live shows with the crowds going crazier each time
Stefan Borglycke
2022-04-16 10:16:20 +0000 UTCNo I.D. Is Kanye’s mentor. He taught Kanye how to make beats in High School. No I.D. Was a producer for Common when Common first came out. Hopefully you’ll get to some Common work soon.
Brandon Williams
2022-04-16 10:09:46 +0000 UTCLift off is a great track, but if you want to actually listen to Beyonce you should really check out her album lemonade. It's a great introspective album about her coping with Jay-z's infidelity. And I am glad you like new day so much, I don't hear as much about that song as I do other tracks on this album and it's always been my favorite from wtt
braden dunn
2022-04-16 09:39:04 +0000 UTCHey Bob. Great reaction as always. I was wondering if Jay Z ‘The Blueprint’ is on your list. It’s a great album, and very meaningful for your journey, given that it’s Kanye’s introduction to the world as a producer/beat maker.
Brandon Williams
2022-04-16 08:20:55 +0000 UTCI feel for Kanye when he blames himself for his mothers death on New Day. Such a good song. That line on HAM "like Eli, I did it". I feel that annotation is incorrect, it refers to a video of high school kids rapping and it went semi viral because it was so ridiculous, the reference seems so niche I like yours better. You mentioned that you didn't know Charlie Wilson, he was in All of the Lights and Bound 2. Also if you want to listen to New Slaves again, Kanye did a live rendition with Charlie Wilson (and dare I say, better than the original) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaOIWgXepqs Also if you're interested, Kanye had an iconic interview not long after this album, so many memed moments. it might also be good to see where his headspace was around this time. Listening to him speak is just great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR_yTQ0SYVA

2022-04-16 07:48:30 +0000 UTCUsed to go on runs after dark around the neighborhood listening to this album. Man as I walked outside and my feet hit the pavement to no church in the wild it felt like a fucking movie

2022-04-16 07:45:47 +0000 UTCIt was great seeing you listen to this album. I haven’t listen to it for years, was a great trip hearing this albums again an hear your take on it. 2022-04-16 03:10:29 +0000 UTCThis tour was amazing. Each did 3-4 songs of their own and then met in the middle did a few from this album. Really showed how these 2 are the throne of the rap game. Not to mention at the LA show they played Paris 12x in a row and every time they would yell “AGAIN” the crowd would get louder and louder

2022-04-16 03:05:51 +0000 UTCPete Rock is one of the most legendary hip hop producers there is, and influenced many. You'll see his name come up a lot. He produced "The World is Yours" by Nas (and sang the hook too) and the original version of Biggies "Juicy".

2022-04-16 01:23:18 +0000 UTCWanted to say the following because you seemed to hesitate before sharing the story about your youth. One of my favorite things about your reactions is how you sometimes connect your own emotional experiences to the music, elucidating on the song’s theme. And I think it’s wonderful how you allow yourself to be pulled into the music on a profound, emotional level. I respect that openness immensely. Just saying this to clarify that I always love when you share stories and emotion! It helps me understand songs on a deeper level (hell, I don’t love WTT, but your reactions gave me a deeper appreciation for it).

CRASH
2022-04-15 22:35:39 +0000 UTCReminds me of Amir who was kicked out brockhampton for allegations of being abusive. He said he had to get professional help after that because growing up in an abusive household, that was all he knew. Same with xxxtentacion. Had a fucked up life since he was a little kid and when he died you had people saying he had it coming. Before he died, he would talk on IG live often of trying to change and be a better person. Even made a music video where he fights his past self. People are quick to anger and judgement but are slow to understanding. Not saying a fucked environment excuses bad behavior but I just think people gotta chill sometimes on the hating.
CRASH
2022-04-15 22:30:21 +0000 UTCIt’s not just the environment’s conditions and the lack of opportunity it provides. It’s what the environment does to you psychologically as well. Mental trauma that can go a lifetime never being diagnosed and dealt with.
CRASH
2022-04-15 22:21:47 +0000 UTC1. Individuals In Paris in an iconic song, it was huge at the time (definitely the biggest song from this album). Kanye and Jay actually went on a joint Watch The Throne tour after the release of this album and when they got to Paris they were so hyped that they performed the song 12 times in a row as an encore. 2. Although it is true that this album is mostly a 'victory lap', it's still a lot more thematic than people give it credit for. A lot of religious themes, allusions to ancient Greek and Rome, references to black icons/samples of legendary black musicians, etc. And yeah, you should definitely do The Blueprint and The Black Album by Jay at some point.
StuntingOnAJumbotron
2022-04-15 22:20:03 +0000 UTCAmerican Gangster should be a must listen imo it’s his best lyrical album
Mahmood Al Mardi
2022-04-15 22:16:17 +0000 UTCagreed, and once he's done those he should do 4:44...one of the best "late career" rap projects ever...exec produced by NO I.D. (you were asking about him Bob, he was Kanye's production mentor since his early Chicago days)...you can see the influence he had on ye's soulful sound in a song like "primetime"
adiiiiiiiii
2022-04-15 22:14:47 +0000 UTCI think now that you’re focusing and appreciating production more, you should give Astroworld a listen. The production is insane and Travis Scott takes a slight step up lyrically from Rodeo
Brock Asher
2022-04-15 22:09:53 +0000 UTCJayz must listens Reasonable Doubt- ✔️ Blueprint Black Album 4:44 He has other albums that are great (volume 2, American gangster, blueprint 3, roc la familia) but to me these are the highlights and are the most succinct
Lowkey_kountry
2022-04-15 21:59:03 +0000 UTCDespite being a huge Kanye stan I always put off listening to WTT in full bc of all the comments and tweets about how it’s a low in Kanye’s discog and that it’s all very mediocre however after hearing you’d be reacting to it soon I thought I’d give it a full run through in preparation and I love every single song (except for lift off). I really don’t see what peoples deal is with the album, I think it’s amazing
Aiden Cleary
2022-04-15 21:19:08 +0000 UTCNew Day is rarely brought up as one of the best songs for Jay & Kanye, although it's widely liked, it's not praised enough imo, from the production to the lyrics, just perfection.

2022-04-15 21:03:53 +0000 UTCI love that you enjoyed Jay-Z's verses on here because you will be blown away by The Blueprint and The Black Album when you get around to them. 2022-04-15 20:18:18 +0000 UTCGreat reaction once again! Regarding the "circus sound" I'm gonna copy paste a theory I found on reddit: "To me it sounds like circus music. Something that will play when clowns peform their acts. The first song of the album "No Church In the Wild" is powerful, insightful, and deep in meaning and towards the end we get the "clown music". I believe it signals the arrival of a dumbed down song. They sorta just tell you off the bat "Hey, this next song is pop/ignant". "New Day" another amazing song with great meaning has the clown music nearing the end and guess what song comes up.... "That's my Bitch". It sorta shows that they are aware of the music they're going to give you. My personal favorite "Illest Mothafucker Alive" has the song right in the intro just to prepare for the ignantness that you're about to listen."

2022-04-15 18:25:30 +0000 UTCBefore you do Life of Pablo I think you should react to 2 singles he dropped before the album called ”All Day” and ”Only One” they were meant for a version of the album that got canceled so they never made the final album. They’re really good and show a lil sneak peak of his progression from Yeezus. Also, people rarely react to these so you might get some good views from these
