Finally got me some Wu-Tang 🤘

Comments

think supreme clientele/ironman is better tho

Noxerius

Gotta do Liquid Swords by GZA. Best Wu Tang related project. Top 10 rap album ever.

Tyler Johnson

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) — Wu-Tang Clan and The Low End Theory — A Tribe Called Quest were just added to the National Recording Registry https://www.billboard.com/music/awards/alici2022-national-recording-registry-inductions-full-list-1235057483/

Eric Beehler

Just as many other people have said, the phrase “run the jewels” means getting robbed at gunpoint and dates back to multiple hip-hop acts from the 80’s and 90’s… Wu-Tang, Nas, LL Cool J, etc. The group Run the Jewels named themselves after this phrase as a nod to their roots (both Killer Mike and El-P came up making rap music in the 90’s). If you’re a fan of killer beats and lyrics (some of the best ever, IMO), you HAVE to react to their work. Can’t go wrong with any album really, although shit really heats up starting with their second.

Donelaitis

Run the jewels’ name is actually a reference from a Biggie bar

SAM-WISE GAMGEE

There is a Run The Jewels reference when you get to Denzel again though, so let's see if you catch it! ;)

Bakke

Better be adding them tallies to my RTJ request in the doc LMAO. <3

SAM-WISE GAMGEE

Killer Mike Rap Music first though. :)

Dylan Woods

Man if you loved telefone you’ll love room 25

Master Washington

Highly recommend Run the Jewels, coming from a rock/metal background it was one of the groups that piqued my interest in hip-hop

Max

Oh okay. I hadn't made this connection yet, thanks for clarifying 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

Bob, run the jewels is a reference to robbing someone at gunpoint. You’ve heard this phrased differently before in the hook of J cole’s a tale of 2 citiez: “Last night, they pulled up on my ni**a at the light like, ugh, nice watch. Run it. Hands in the air now, hands in the air. Run it.” The logo/ album artwork for run the jewels (the duo) is a finger gun pointing at a clenched fist holding a chain.

CRASH

I used to ask for BROCKHAMPTON a lot but didn’t want to be annoying. But since you’re doing groups now…. (Fugees first tho)

CRASH

This name has been coming up a lot recently. On the list 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

I have this bookmarked, but I haven't looked at it in awhile. I'll remember to check it in the future 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

Liquid Swords has been on my list for awhile, and now it's quickly ascending higher :)

Bob_the_Poppop

Low End Theory is high on my list. Marauders is on there too 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

lol oh man

Bob_the_Poppop

🍻

Bob_the_Poppop

new Conway album is great

daredevil777

the peggy sample is from ol dirty bastards song "goin down"

Jake

Bruh Masta Killa’s verse on Da mystery of Chessboxin’ makes me horny it’s so good

Callum Smith

Yup, bottom line

Bob_the_Poppop

I do from time to time. Each time, I understand the praise for it more and more

Bob_the_Poppop

I'll definitely be exploring more of their work, but Wu and the solo efforts

Bob_the_Poppop

Alex done dropped the ball...

Bob_the_Poppop

Oooohh... cool!

Bob_the_Poppop

It's kinda crazy that I've been listening for this long and I'm still learning more on a weekly basis

Bob_the_Poppop

Yup, definitely need to do that

Bob_the_Poppop

Oh cool, thank you 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

Very dangerous!

Bob_the_Poppop

Yep. Life of Pablo was updated after release and the final edit is the best version. I would hope Tidal has the final version.

Dylan Woods

That was the night everything changed..

Tim P

You are officially a hip hop head Bob, we are all proud of you. Second all the calls for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Liquid Swords, two hip hop classics. Any list of classic hip hop albums will have multiple Wu Tang on it

Paulie Walnuts

Inspectah Deck is in another group Czarface w/ Esoteric(rapper) & 7L(producer) that would be a cool reaction. They have 2 collab albums w/ MF DOOM as well

Cullen Hendricks

I agree, it's a fantastic website. But I would say that the track lists still might need an element of human input. For example, when he'll get around to TLOP, I would hope he includes Saint Pablo, which was not included in the first edition(the one RYM shows by default). I'm sure the song is on the website on an alternative release but going through all of them can be bothersome. I also don't think there is such a thing as an "official album track list".

Lennart

Griselda albums - gritty Wu-tang style production but a modern twist to it. You will absolutely love it

Rishav Roy

Hey Bob, if you ever have trouble with finding the first editions of albums or official albums tracklists, runtime or cover art, or if you just want to look at the genres of the album check out Rateyourmusic.com, it's a great and very extensive user database site, for all music genres.

Christopher Bloom

I haven’t heard that about Nas before, and didn’t see anything about it with a quick search. Do you happen to know where you heard it?

Tim P

About damn time we got some Wu Tang! Great reaction to a great album. Not a bad track on it, hell not even a single bad verse. Everyone of the is so sharp, each got their own seperate styles and flows, but share that aggressive delivery. The beats are so hard and grimy, the production making it all sound so raw. The whole shaolin concept, together with all thesamples from old kung-fu flicks gives it a unique atmosphere from start to finish. Was certain that you would start vibin with it within a song or two, aswell as finding a lot of their rhymes and references hilarious. The repeat value on it is massive aswell, I must have heard every track over a hundred times, would bet that within a week this will be at least in your top 3 of everything you have reacted to this far. One of my favorite hiphop albums of all time along with Illmatic, Madvillainy and a few others. As others have mentioned, if you want to react to any more Wu Tang, "GZA - Liquid Swords" should be next. The whole vibe is the same as on this, all the kung-fu stuff, pretty much every song has features from one or more of the other members so it really don't feel like a solo project at all.

Jacob Svensson

Funny. Can it be all so Simple is my favourite track on the album. I love the melancholy atmosphere. It makes me feel nostalgic for things that never happened.

Dylan Woods

I love Fishscale.

Dylan Woods

His CREAM verse might be the best on the album low key

nate kirsh

I love that album.

Dylan Woods

Great analogy.

Dylan Woods

For sure try to get around Liquid Swords, its one of my favs all time and I think you'd enjoy it a lot since you enjoyed 36 chambers so much!

Conw

Great reaction to a classic album. GZA - Liquid Swords would probably be your best bet for the next Wu related album. It has rugged beats, great lyricism and storytelling. Many would consider Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx to be the best Wu album of all time, but the slang might be a little much for you at this point in your Wu-Tang journey.

Jae

After their debut album as group in 93, they released a couple solo/colab within their group, all produced by RZA. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Raekwon, Ghostface and Liquid Sword by GZA are both classic albums. And they released their second album as a group in 95: wutang is forever.

Elie Maitre

classic album 🐐 , I’ll recommend A Tribe Called Quest even though I know you already had it recommended to you before but they are an essential group to hiphop that came before Wutang. The Low End Theory is a classic record by them

Litty Again

Now that you are a bona-fide Wu fan you have to learn every verse of the song Triumph. Sorry it's just a requirement! 😆

Lowkey_kountry

Voting for liquid swords > only built for cuban linx > return of the 36 chambers > ironman also NAS is considered a member of wu-tang so illmatic would have been on the list

giorgio santelli

Ditto to all of that. The producers list for Pt II is absolutely insane, Rae went all out to make sure it deserved to carry the same name.

Tim P

When you continue your Wu-Tang journey, I recommend starting with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Raekwon and Liquid Swords by GZA. The solo albums can be quite different from Enter the Wu-Tang. The ones above in particular have a greater emphasis on storytelling and atmosphere. I go back to these records a lot more than Enter the Wu-Tang personally. It would be a lot of fun if you did Only Built 4 Cuban Linx one month and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II the next. The sequel was released nearly fifteen years later and somehow matched the original. It regularly makes top ten lists for Wu-Tang albums, which is an achievement considering the size and quality of the discography. Who else releases a sequel to an album fifteen years later and doesn’t disappoint?

Dylan Woods

great reaction as usual Bob

Isiaha

Their “Of Mics and Men” 4-part documentary on Showtime is great too

Tim P

This is kind of like the rock equivalent of a jam session, each musician adding a solo. Except it’s a supergroup with some of the best artists of all time!

nate kirsh

Glad you liked this album! Sometimes it's hard to get into because of the recording quality but it's all a part of the production style. You should check out infamous by mobb deep. One of the most classic albums of the 90's

Henry

awesome how well this project has held up over 30 years. dope flow is dope flow, period.

Psykopomp

For me, this debut album is only how they kicked in the door and their tightest beats and sharpest raps are yet to come... Also, since you loved "Protect Ya Neck" so much I'm dying to see you react to "Winter Warz" on Ghostface Killah's 1996 album Ironman. As for the creme of the crop albums (most solo albums especially in the 90s had all of the Wu-Tang members prominently featured btw) I'll vote GZA - Liquid Swords (1995), Ghostface - Supreme Clientele (2000), Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx (1995) and Ol' Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers (1995)

Stefan Borglycke

some Ka would be great. Honor killed the samurai and Descendants of Cain

daredevil777

C.R.E.A.M. de la Crop for Wu-Tang (solo albums): GZA- Liquid Swords Raekwon- Only built 4 Cuban Linx... Ghostface Killah- Supreme Clientele>Fishscale>Ironman (sorry, really comes down to preference. all great.)

daredevil777

If Enter the 36 chambers is Godfather 1. Wu-Tang Forever is Godfather 2. P.s. since your new found appreciation of flows and schemes and hip hop in general i wonder have you revisited Illmatic at all?

Paul Salvador Estrada

And I agree 7th Chamber pt 2 beat is krazy, that version is underrated. the wooo woo in the background+the distortion, it does not get better than this

daredevil777

Bob I mentioned this on your Ready to Die vid and on twitter but I gotta reiterate that I think you'd absolutely love Method Man's solo debut, Tical. It has some of the RZA's dirtiest, darkest, rawest production but also an incredible Prodigy remix in the bonus tracks. I think that's probably the number one rap song I'd recommend to you.

Spencer Thompson

Since you mentioned MF DOOM a couple times i hope the next MF album you do is MM...FOOD. it's my favorite DOOM album and he produced most of the album his self

If you want a great Wu-Tang documentary i reccomend "Of Mics And Men". It's really good

ThePersonalities

regarding the album name: 9 members in the clan 4 chambers in a human heart 36 chambers

Lennart

Your newfound understanding and adoration for rap flows makes me happy that you didn't listen to Young Thug earlier.

shaun

Bob! Im so happy you are doing Wu-Tang a lot of reactors skip on them because they are a group and not an artist but this album is a certified classic in hip-hop and a must listen for anybody exploring the music. They have the same status in rap as a Sex Pistols or Nirvana in rock where something totally unique comes from left field and turns the whole genre on its head. The pure manic energy of the songs, the insane and innovative production and the grimey and real rhymes made them basically an instant success back when it dropped. And the sheer bravado and grit to gather around so many talented producers and rappers and form a super group with this amount of harmony and brotherhood is impossible even today. I really hope you continue to explore the Wu family albums like Liquid Swords, Return to the 36 Chambers , Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Supreme Clientele are a must listen with or without a reaction. PS: Honor killed the samurai next month? pretty please with crack cocaine and a flying guillotine on top?

Boyan Konov

man Inspectah Deck really goes in on these Wutang tracks and he also always shines when he is featured on other projects. I really wish we would have gotten his RZA produced debut album. It unfortunately never came out the way it was supposed to, due to a flood in RZA's basement studio, which destroyed over a hundred beats, including all of the instrumentals made for the album.

daredevil777

Go back to MBDTF and listen to the RZA produced songs “Dark Fantasy” & “So Appalled” you can hear the Wu tang sound

Granados

I'm gonna recommend you watch Wu Tang: An American Story on Hulu. Its got 2 seasons and is a dramatic retelling of how Wu Tang formed

Brendan B

figured i should let you know if you like Protect Ya Neck so much, if you look up Protect Ya Neck (Bloody Version), its the uncensored version

Jake Curran

The Wu Tang and the Shaolin could be Dangerous!

Paul Salvador Estrada

:)

Maxwell

been waiting all damn day. thank you so much bob

Vervanta

Can’t wait to watch this such a classic album

RINGER 13
