FYI, it took me a few tracks to warm up to this one again. The 'Volume 2' portion of the album is where I really start getting into it.

2022-07-18 04:49:13 +0000 UTCOne of the reasons this album is so impactful is because of the timing of it and how the world reacted. Kanye is coming off serious couple of bad years (mom dies, breaks up with fiancé, Taylor swift debacle, and breaks up with his new GF Amber Rose) America basically finally turns on him and exiles him and he contemplates leaving the industry. But he decides to return, and to do so he needed to do it right. Kanye set out to create something so undeniably good and also vulnerable that the fans would have to accept him back, and that’s what he did. He returned to the VMAs a year after the Taylor incident and premiered his new song Runaway that was amazing but also apologetic. Kanye created his magnum opus and the rest is history.

2022-03-06 12:26:59 +0000 UTCDenzel Curry is really good. Since you like Rage Against the Machine you should react to Denzel's cover of Bulls on Parade.

2022-03-06 05:18:01 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, actually one of my favorite hip-hop albums of the past few years and I was glad to see you enjoyed it. Regarding the diss on Percz, it almost certainly was not directed at Die Lit. Carti had an innovative sound and was doing cool things with his vocal inflections and production, which an artist like Denzel almost certainly admires. There were a lot of perc'd out rappers like lil pump at the time who were doing really nothing innovative or interesting, sounds more like a stab at them. Lit is a common slang used by those types of rappers.

2022-03-06 03:26:16 +0000 UTCI enjoyed this album quite a bit. I like the sound and he raps with a lot of energy. It is definitely a mix of several different styles. I didn't always like the lyrics. It felt like taboo stuff was just being thrown in without too much thought sometimes which was kind of jarring for me. Mainly the line about being molested and about date rape. It felt thrown into me and not properly developed. But the song about his brother hit hard. The album was a bit scattershot and uneven. But he's also trying to do a lot at once. And pulling it off too. I look forward to hearing more Denzel. Some people have been recommending Mystic Stylesz by Three Six Mafia and I couldn't agree more. That is the origin of this spooky type hip-hop. That should be a priority imo. Given that next month will be Watch the Throne with Kanye and Jay. It might be a good idea to listen to the Blueprint the first week. It is for many people Jay Zs best album and Kanye was a producer on it. That's the start of their relationship.

2022-03-05 21:00:45 +0000 UTCFirst time I hung out with my girlfriend was for this album’s tour. We saw him on a Friday in Los Angeles and loved it so much we drove down to Santa Ana the following Monday to see him again for his last show. 2 weeks later we met up at flog gnaw to see kids see ghosts and I asked her to be my girlfriend during the internet’s set So yeah, this album is pretty fuckin special to me

2022-03-05 10:01:30 +0000 UTCFinally got around to watching this like I said I would, pretty cool reaction, I have nothing specifically to say so I'll just point out some stuff/add some comments 1. You mention that Genius doesn't make it easy to see who produces a track but it's actually pretty easy, it's at the top right of every track page under "Produced by:" 2. ZillaKami is pronounced "Zilla-kahmee" (like origami) and he's one half of Trap-Metal group City Morgue, along with SosMula. I'm sure you've been recommended them a ton and I'll add to that because they're great, super hard and aggressive sound, I think you'd have a lot of fun with City Morgue Vol. 1 and 2 at least. 3. In Cash Maniac, you were perplexed by the "that's me at my lowest, no Peter Griffin" line, that's just a pun lol, lowest sounds like Lois, who is of course Peter's wife in Family Guy. So yeah, cool video, I'm gonna check out your Unlocked video soon, and hopefully you get to more Denzel in the future! As I already mentioned in a prior comment, Imperial is great, and I also think ZUU is great, though you should go into that one keeping in mind that it stays very true to the way down south, florida louisiana type of sound which you probably haven't heard much of yet, it's a great album regardless, if you choose to check it out sometime.

2022-03-05 09:47:03 +0000 UTCIf you liked the darker sounding stuff from Denzel I’d suggest $uicideboy$. They have a song with Denzel already called Ultimate Suicide but if you wanted to check out an album I’d recommend “I Want to Die in New Orleans”
Luxso
2022-03-05 08:51:23 +0000 UTCThe best part of this album reaction is you get to hear Zillakami go the fuck OFF. If you ever wanna just hear some fucking raw-dog Black-Metal-ass hip hop; Zillakami's group City Morgue is savage as fuck. I've spun their Hell or High Water album like way too many times.

2022-03-05 06:38:33 +0000 UTCYeah Mystic Stylez should happen. So influential. I also really like Chapter 1 The End but Mystic makes the most sense to start.

2022-03-05 05:14:45 +0000 UTCThe "suicidal doors" in Clout Cobain refer to those doors that go up on expensive cars. They're called suicide doors. He follows it up by mentioning the red leather seats.

2022-03-05 04:36:22 +0000 UTCyou should really watch the music video for clout cobain! Also JID in my opinion is the greatest and I really mean the greatest lyricist of this new generation his work on dicaprio 2 is amazing and you should consider it for a listen!

2022-03-05 00:36:39 +0000 UTCYou definitely should check out more of J.I.D’s stuff. He’s one of the top lyricist in hip hop right now, and he’s walked the line between mainstream and underground for the last few years. He signed to J. Cole’s label in 2017, and has put out 2 fantastic albums since then. I’d recommend starting with The Never Story.
Ryan Severson
2022-03-05 00:20:02 +0000 UTCJ.I.D. the feature in SIRENS who had a verse you liked, is an amazing artist. I'd highly recommend checking out either of his two albums some time. Nothing that you need to listen to immediately but he's definitely one of the more lyric and flow heavy artists out there right now so I think you'd get a lot of enjoyment from listening to his stuff. I'd personally recommend The Never Story before DiCaprio 2 but maybe others would disagree, both are amazing.

2022-03-04 23:35:10 +0000 UTCI noticed it... but I felt it was a little too bold just assume it was a Kanye reference. I figured if I said that, people would leave comments saying "not everything is about Kanye" lol
Bob_the_Poppop
2022-03-04 23:34:41 +0000 UTCDenzel came up in the section of underground rappers that are heavily inspired by 90’s Memphis rap(i.e. Three Six Mafia,Kingpin Skinny Pimp,Tommy Wright III) along w/ artist like Chris Travis,$uicideboy$, Black Smurf and Ramirez so I think after getting into Denzel it would be a good time to listen to some old school Memphis. Vengeance is prob the closest song on this album to that style lyric wise. Some 90’s Memphis recommendations: Three Six Mafia - Mystic Styles Koopsta Knicca - Da Devil’s Playground
Cullen Hendricks
2022-03-04 23:27:51 +0000 UTCThe people that Denzel is dissing on percs are likely people that you’ve never heard of or at least no one you’ve done a reaction to. It’s dissing all the rappers who got big around 2017 that have all pretty much become fully forgotten and irrelevant. The likes of 6ix9ine and lik pump.
Jack MacArthur
2022-03-04 23:20:36 +0000 UTCCan’t watch right now, absolutely will when I get home, I just want to say you should ABSOLUTELY listen to Imperial by Denzel Curry which released a couple years prior to TA13OO, the storytelling isn’t quite as strong, but it has to be one of the strongest track-to-track hip hop album of all time (for me)
Lil Mac
2022-03-04 23:06:18 +0000 UTCTaboo is the album that got me into music again a couple years ago, im jealous you got to experience it for the first time. Hope this leads to a J.I.D reaction! The never story and dicaprio 2 are wonderful projects, hes very lyrically dense and makes very interesting music.
Maximilian
2022-03-04 22:49:03 +0000 UTCdamn i thought you would catch jpeg referencing that kanye song about 'making past 25' on college dropout but you didn't :/
----
2022-03-04 22:37:00 +0000 UTCI'm sure you probably figured it out along the way but the album gets darker and more aggressive as it goes on as signified by the separation in "acts" with the tracks and it going from light to gray to dark.
