I'm glad you enjoy Cole as a human being. But I can promise you, when you get to 4 your eyes only, you'll become a bigger fan. I don't want to spoil anything so all I'll say is he has a lot more passion, serious topics discussed, and the music becomes more refined

“He checks all the boxes but there’s something missing.”
That captures the feeling I have when I listen to J. Cole Forest Hills Drive. It has all the elements of a classic album, and it wants to be a classic album, but it doesn’t quite get there for me. There’s something about it that just doesn’t connect. J. Cole has passion, but when he goes in, I don’t feel it in my bones the way I do with Tupac or Kanye. I don’t feel the electricity.
“You had to be there” is extremely true. People who experienced this album at the right time love it, whereas people who listened to it later on appreciate what it’s doing but are less enthusiastic about it. Having that connection with an artist is such a special thing. It’s like they’re talking to you.
J. Cole seems like a great guy and I’m glad he has made a connection with so many people.
Thanks for all the love from people despite not loving J. Cole. This community is so positive and understanding it’s really special.
Nobody thinks J. Cole is bad, in fact, he’s undeniably really good. He’s the full package as an artist. In the reaction space everyone’s favourite artist has to be your favourite artist, and if not, then that means the artist is awful. But that’s not the case.
Once you do your reaction for Rap Music by Killer Mike consider The Off Season. I haven’t heard it but people seem to like it a lot.
Man I am looking forward to this month. What a wicked lineup.

This is exactly how I felt *in the moment* listening to this album. Listen 1 was very pleasant… then time passed… It got less interesting. Which was juxtaposed against the album getting more popular with time! Pretty unusual circumstance, and not sure I’ve really seen anything like it since. Still have very mild feelings on the album to this day, 4/10.

Interesting to hear a contrasting perspective and Opinion on this album. This is one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time, so to hear you didn’t really enjoy it as much as I did threw me off a bit, but I think it’s necessary to hear different thinking people than ourselves.
You’re spot on about Cole being a very approachable guy. There’s been a couple videos about him being spotted in public with no security at all and people were very confused by that lol

Forest Hills drive was a huge switch up for Coles style. I think you will really like his next two Albums as there is less singing especially his most recent album which is his best one imo.
