February Album Selection

It's time to start scheduling February's albums, and I've been mentioning here and there how I intend to torture you all with the challenge I continually face: which album do I pick? So behold, my poll of misery.

2 albums are already decided: 808s &HB by Kanye and Ready 2 Die by Biggie. You, my wonderful Patrons, get to choose one and soon those on YouTube will get a poll as well. Technically, you guys get to vote twice because of YT and Patreon, but don't tell the YouTube followers that (it'll be our little secret).

Do keep in mind that all of these artists are new to me. I've never listened to an album by them (at most, only a feature from another album).

Also feel free to post comments on how much you agonized over your decision so that I might relish in your misery 😈

Final Friday of Feb is Pinata 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

Hopefully we can get a piñata soon… maybe even a bandana if piñata goes well !!

Piñata gets better every listen

Jay

I would suggest switching 'By the time I get to Phoenix' for 'Floss'

It came in second despite clearly being the best album on the list. What a tragedy.

Teddy

It literally won wdym

RINGER 13

It is a double album but it’s 11 tracks each. 22 tracks. Late registration was 21 tracks 🤷🏻‍♂️

Christopher Horton

I can't believe Piñata isn't in the lead

Teddy

Ta13oo doesn’t get talked about enough honestly. That album is a perfect versatile project in my eyes

g prada

Piñata is 🔥🔥🔥

cudi all the way

Aaron Seidnernin

I might do the Mathers LP. I've heard it, but it's been years... so it would technically be a revisit. Low priority though. I wanna get into a lot more artists I haven't heard first

Bob_the_Poppop

Hi Bob, are you planning to listen to The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem in the future? Also if you haven't heard The Sharecropper's Daughter by Sa-Roc i highly recommend it :)

SoundWAV

This is a double album though, right? That makes it very challenging to get to.

Bob_the_Poppop

Cmon, Cudi has to beat Gibbs

eich

RTJ ALL THE WAY

Kelsey Giddings

Asking again for 4eva Is A Mighty Long Time by Big KRIT

Christopher Horton

Yes.

Dylan Woods

killer mikes albums great! i’m sure you’ll get to it at some point. Once you do, i imagine you’ll wanna dive head first into the RTJ discography.

Jorge Campos Jr.

I think you'd like Pinata the most, especially coming off Madvillainy. The beats are Madlib again, a bit more traditional, but still masterful and cinematic. Freddie Gibbs is also a dope rapper with great punchlines and a million flows that I think you'd be able to appreciate more fully now.

Will Pease

I'm so excited for Ready to Die

Because the Internet is my vote. Gambino's wordplay and tongue-in-cheek verses are so good! But in the future, I want some Lupe or Atmosphere in this list.

Jayde Stone

pinata is one of my favorite albums ever and im not even that much of a freddie gibbs fan

Nate Hardin

KID CUDI FTW

CooLuis

Coming of madvil, piñata by freddie is a must but and this is a big but king kedrick said it himself killer mike deserves allot more than he gets!

giorgio santelli

I'm doing 1 Kanye album a month, so I'll naturally get to that one

Bob_the_Poppop

React to Run The Jewels 4! You'd actually really enjoy RTJ because they're heavily political, heavy rap, and they feature Zach De La Rocha on every album.

SAM-WISE GAMGEE

People, Freddie Gibbs please!!

Reilly

i am waiting for MY BEAUTIFUL dark twisted fantasy

Aaron Seidnernin

i don't care about most of those

Aaron Seidnernin

GANGSTA GIBBS AKA KANE TRAIN AKA GANGSTA KANE AKA FREDDIE FORGIATO AKA FREDDIE KANE AKA BIG BOSS RABIT AKA FREDDIE CORLEON AKA COCAIN BUNNY AKA BABY FACE KILLA!

Diego Bernal

Ended up voting Pinata for the next one. Although Man on the Moon was very tempting to vote I think you would really enjoy Pinata coming off of Madvillainy. Love from Norway :D

Steve Urkel

House of Balloons changed rnb. nuff said

Gabe

Think you’d enjoy piñata the best coming off Madvilliany

Gotta do piñata

Shane

Definitely. I hope he keeps listening to 1 or 2 albums each month from the 80s/90s. Slick Rick is a must.

Dylan Woods

I feel like you’d definitely love the album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick - Slick Rick. It’s from 1988 so would be the earliest hip hop album you’d have listen to. The lyrics and easy to follow but they’re also very comedic. Slick Rick is a master story teller, so I feel like this album is good for you to hear something even closer to the pure roots of hip hop that is still really fun to listen along too

Callum Smith

i would start with faces for mac

Diego Bernal

Stiff competition between Gibbs and Cudi.

Dylan Woods

Stop the count!

eich

I think Doris is a better album to start so he can see earl’s progression. But maybe I’m just biased cuz Doris is one of my favourite albums of all time

eich

Taboo is definitely the best one here imo

Halfdan Jørndrup

808s, Ready to die, Kid Cudi, Gibbs.. sheeesh

Louie Henry

XXX will be your favorite listen out of all these, calling it now. Can't wait for that and "Pinata". I think you'll love Earl too--although I think the best album of his to start with is "I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside"--his lyricism is really rounding into form here along with some really dark beats I think you'll love.

adiiiiiiiii

Honestly all these (other than like 2-3 I haven't heard yet myself) are all good and worthy. Honestly maybe take the top selection, and then put the rest into something like https://pickerwheel.com/ to choose the next 1-2 albums totally blind.

Scott Watrous

I'm with you. XXX is the ideal place to jump into his stuff. I still prefer AE overall but often rather put on some XXX

Scott Watrous

Many good options here Bob. I wouldn't be mad with any of them, but I had to go with MOTM first just because I'm shocked you haven't gotten around to it yet. Because The Internet and Piñata are very high on my personal favorites also. You'd probably enjoy Piñata a lot seeing how you reacted to Madlib's production on Madvillainy.

Love seeing XXX here, a lot of people would want AE first since it's a more critically acclaimed album, but if you're gonna do Danny you gotta do XXX first. It's so brilliantly unique and I may be in the minority but I prefer it to AE, and I love AE.

joseph

I do. This is basically the portion of my list that is in immediate consideration for being scheduled into my weekly rotation.

Bob_the_Poppop

Do you plan on getting to all of these albums at some point? Because this is a solid lineup, would be a shame if you missed out on any of these

Lil Mac

No Thundercat-Drunk…..what the hell man

Inglewood

Swimming is such a special album to me. I would be happy if you reacted to it at any point. But MOTM is also a great choice.

Shurikinney

Because the Internet in my top 5

PlayahKenzo

Still waiting for ASTROWORLD 😞

PlayahKenzo

Man on the moon!!!!

Exactly. Like MOTM just makes sense given he’s doing 808’s in February also. If he doesn’t listen to Cudi too then it’s kind of dropping the ball

MadeByMali

MOTM just makes sense given his relationship with Kanye starting with 808s. Those albums share dna and they will be tied together from this point forward. Pinata is a great follow-up to Madvillainy due to the Madlib production.

Dylan Woods

Freddie for the win

Helmer Moreira

I voted Killer Mike. But MOTM and Pinata would be my next choices. So its all good. I am confident that Killer Mike will happen one day. Listen to Killer Mike and an El-P album before Run the Jewels.

Dylan Woods

If you do react to denzel curry you should also react to his cover of “bulls on parade” by rage against the machine

Denzel the King

I voted for Mac but I'd be happy with Freddie Gibbs...Mac has a feature on that album lol

Henry

vote danny

Vervanta

CUDI

Tim Bennett

vote danny brown 2022, i need bob's reactions to dannys one liners in my life

Jake Curran

yeah this ^

Vervanta

I am actually pretty sad that injury reserve and killer mike are not voted for that much, both are so forwardthinking and just different for hip hop in general

lol... there's always the YouTube poll as well (I'll probably post that early next week)

Bob_the_Poppop

Listen to Faces by mac

Max Leatherman

anyways. EVERYONE VOTE DANNY. if we get xxx then we will later get atrocity exhibition. i beg you guys

Vervanta

yeah you can just listen to motm1 and not listen to any other cudi tbh

Vervanta

MOTM especially since you're gonna listen to 808s and Heartbreak... Which you'll hear some of him on there as well. And it's really the one Cudi album that needs to be heard.

HOB would also be really interesting 🤔

MadeByMali

This is the tough thing about polls. Fun for the community, but obviously a popularity contest as well. It's why I don't do them often.

Bob_the_Poppop

Ready for Bob to venture outside this sub genre of he’s been listening to for pretty much the past 2 months. I’m going MOTM, especially with 808’s and MBDTF coming up. Cudi is a must.

MadeByMali

Pinata time

Rico

By the time I get to Phoenix would be an amazing reaction and it’s one of the most unique albums I’ve ever heard, not just in hip hop. Sadly it’s not as popular as others here so it won’t get voted in

Jack MacArthur

Pretty tough choice. But Taboo for me, knowing it's pretty metal influenced at the end it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on it.

NecPluribusImpar

Oh fuck, glad to see Killer Mike but it makes more sense seeing Run The Jewels 4 on the list. That's definitely peak Mike plus ya know El-P. In my unsolicited opinion of course

jofo48

^ 2nd this

applebea

+1

jofo48

I would go with HOB and Pinata from this list tho

Damn by Kendrick in the future?

Dominic Chan

Who is recommending all these indie hip hop albums, Piñata, obviously

listen to take care or an asap project

Kajan Kanesh

if we end up getting because the internet and MOTM this month i can die happy

Taboo is so underrated masterpiece and you NEED react to Childish Gambino 😭 so excited for this month !

Iseko

If possible please replace XXX with atrocity exhibition

agreed

Malik

If you would've put atrocity exhibition instead of XXX, I would've straightaway picked that

Please replace Swimming with Faces

Malik

damn bob, this is tough

Jose Garcia

xxx and Piñata 🙏🙏🙏
