February Album Selection
Added 2022-01-19 13:43:13 +0000 UTCIt's time to start scheduling February's albums, and I've been mentioning here and there how I intend to torture you all with the challenge I continually face: which album do I pick? So behold, my poll of misery.
2 albums are already decided: 808s &HB by Kanye and Ready 2 Die by Biggie. You, my wonderful Patrons, get to choose one and soon those on YouTube will get a poll as well. Technically, you guys get to vote twice because of YT and Patreon, but don't tell the YouTube followers that (it'll be our little secret).
Do keep in mind that all of these artists are new to me. I've never listened to an album by them (at most, only a feature from another album).
Also feel free to post comments on how much you agonized over your decision so that I might relish in your misery 😈

2022-01-30 20:16:53 +0000 UTCI would suggest switching 'By the time I get to Phoenix' for 'Floss'
2022-01-30 06:37:53 +0000 UTCIt came in second despite clearly being the best album on the list. What a tragedy.
Teddy
2022-01-28 05:53:04 +0000 UTCIt literally won wdym
RINGER 13
2022-01-28 05:36:38 +0000 UTCIt is a double album but it’s 11 tracks each. 22 tracks. Late registration was 21 tracks 🤷🏻♂️

2022-01-27 06:33:40 +0000 UTCI can't believe Piñata isn't in the lead

2022-01-27 05:38:36 +0000 UTCTa13oo doesn’t get talked about enough honestly. That album is a perfect versatile project in my eyes

Aaron Seidnernin
2022-01-23 23:55:07 +0000 UTCI might do the Mathers LP. I've heard it, but it's been years... so it would technically be a revisit. Low priority though. I wanna get into a lot more artists I haven't heard first
Bob_the_Poppop
2022-01-22 22:01:48 +0000 UTCHi Bob, are you planning to listen to The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem in the future? Also if you haven't heard The Sharecropper's Daughter by Sa-Roc i highly recommend it :)
SoundWAV
2022-01-22 13:54:29 +0000 UTCThis is a double album though, right? That makes it very challenging to get to.

2022-01-21 14:57:03 +0000 UTCkiller mikes albums great! i’m sure you’ll get to it at some point. Once you do, i imagine you’ll wanna dive head first into the RTJ discography.
Jorge Campos Jr.
2022-01-21 13:34:49 +0000 UTCI think you'd like Pinata the most, especially coming off Madvillainy. The beats are Madlib again, a bit more traditional, but still masterful and cinematic. Freddie Gibbs is also a dope rapper with great punchlines and a million flows that I think you'd be able to appreciate more fully now.
Will Pease
2022-01-21 01:08:01 +0000 UTCI'm so excited for Ready to Die
2022-01-20 18:21:47 +0000 UTCBecause the Internet is my vote. Gambino's wordplay and tongue-in-cheek verses are so good! But in the future, I want some Lupe or Atmosphere in this list.
Jayde Stone
2022-01-20 18:02:33 +0000 UTCpinata is one of my favorite albums ever and im not even that much of a freddie gibbs fan

2022-01-20 14:58:24 +0000 UTCComing of madvil, piñata by freddie is a must but and this is a big but king kedrick said it himself killer mike deserves allot more than he gets!

2022-01-20 14:15:03 +0000 UTCI'm doing 1 Kanye album a month, so I'll naturally get to that one
Bob_the_Poppop
2022-01-20 12:37:39 +0000 UTCReact to Run The Jewels 4! You'd actually really enjoy RTJ because they're heavily political, heavy rap, and they feature Zach De La Rocha on every album.

2022-01-20 07:56:56 +0000 UTCEnded up voting Pinata for the next one. Although Man on the Moon was very tempting to vote I think you would really enjoy Pinata coming off of Madvillainy. Love from Norway :D

2022-01-20 01:21:48 +0000 UTCGotta do piñata
Shane
2022-01-20 01:00:23 +0000 UTCDefinitely. I hope he keeps listening to 1 or 2 albums each month from the 80s/90s. Slick Rick is a must.
Dylan Woods
2022-01-20 00:19:06 +0000 UTCI feel like you’d definitely love the album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick - Slick Rick. It’s from 1988 so would be the earliest hip hop album you’d have listen to. The lyrics and easy to follow but they’re also very comedic. Slick Rick is a master story teller, so I feel like this album is good for you to hear something even closer to the pure roots of hip hop that is still really fun to listen along too
Callum Smith
2022-01-19 23:57:16 +0000 UTCi would start with faces for mac

2022-01-19 21:00:44 +0000 UTCI think Doris is a better album to start so he can see earl’s progression. But maybe I’m just biased cuz Doris is one of my favourite albums of all time

2022-01-19 20:30:04 +0000 UTCTaboo is definitely the best one here imo

Louie Henry
2022-01-19 20:01:02 +0000 UTCXXX will be your favorite listen out of all these, calling it now. Can't wait for that and "Pinata". I think you'll love Earl too--although I think the best album of his to start with is "I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside"--his lyricism is really rounding into form here along with some really dark beats I think you'll love.
adiiiiiiiii
2022-01-19 19:52:25 +0000 UTCHonestly all these (other than like 2-3 I haven't heard yet myself) are all good and worthy. Honestly maybe take the top selection, and then put the rest into something like https://pickerwheel.com/ to choose the next 1-2 albums totally blind.
Scott Watrous
2022-01-19 19:50:43 +0000 UTCI'm with you. XXX is the ideal place to jump into his stuff. I still prefer AE overall but often rather put on some XXX
Scott Watrous
2022-01-19 19:46:17 +0000 UTCMany good options here Bob. I wouldn't be mad with any of them, but I had to go with MOTM first just because I'm shocked you haven't gotten around to it yet. Because The Internet and Piñata are very high on my personal favorites also. You'd probably enjoy Piñata a lot seeing how you reacted to Madlib's production on Madvillainy.
2022-01-19 18:59:39 +0000 UTCLove seeing XXX here, a lot of people would want AE first since it's a more critically acclaimed album, but if you're gonna do Danny you gotta do XXX first. It's so brilliantly unique and I may be in the minority but I prefer it to AE, and I love AE.

2022-01-19 18:50:10 +0000 UTCI do. This is basically the portion of my list that is in immediate consideration for being scheduled into my weekly rotation.
Bob_the_Poppop
2022-01-19 18:48:54 +0000 UTCDo you plan on getting to all of these albums at some point? Because this is a solid lineup, would be a shame if you missed out on any of these

2022-01-19 18:01:53 +0000 UTCSwimming is such a special album to me. I would be happy if you reacted to it at any point. But MOTM is also a great choice.

2022-01-19 17:23:27 +0000 UTCMan on the moon!!!!
2022-01-19 17:07:57 +0000 UTCExactly. Like MOTM just makes sense given he’s doing 808’s in February also. If he doesn’t listen to Cudi too then it’s kind of dropping the ball
MadeByMali
2022-01-19 16:54:43 +0000 UTCMOTM just makes sense given his relationship with Kanye starting with 808s. Those albums share dna and they will be tied together from this point forward. Pinata is a great follow-up to Madvillainy due to the Madlib production.
Dylan Woods
2022-01-19 16:44:38 +0000 UTCFreddie for the win
Helmer Moreira
2022-01-19 16:42:36 +0000 UTCI voted Killer Mike. But MOTM and Pinata would be my next choices. So its all good. I am confident that Killer Mike will happen one day. Listen to Killer Mike and an El-P album before Run the Jewels.
Dylan Woods
2022-01-19 16:42:35 +0000 UTCIf you do react to denzel curry you should also react to his cover of “bulls on parade” by rage against the machine

2022-01-19 14:56:39 +0000 UTCI am actually pretty sad that injury reserve and killer mike are not voted for that much, both are so forwardthinking and just different for hip hop in general

Vervanta
2022-01-19 14:07:04 +0000 UTCMOTM especially since you're gonna listen to 808s and Heartbreak... Which you'll hear some of him on there as well. And it's really the one Cudi album that needs to be heard.
2022-01-19 14:05:31 +0000 UTCHOB would also be really interesting 🤔
MadeByMali
2022-01-19 14:05:26 +0000 UTCThis is the tough thing about polls. Fun for the community, but obviously a popularity contest as well. It's why I don't do them often.
Bob_the_Poppop
2022-01-19 14:05:17 +0000 UTCReady for Bob to venture outside this sub genre of he’s been listening to for pretty much the past 2 months. I’m going MOTM, especially with 808’s and MBDTF coming up. Cudi is a must.

2022-01-19 14:03:25 +0000 UTCBy the time I get to Phoenix would be an amazing reaction and it’s one of the most unique albums I’ve ever heard, not just in hip hop. Sadly it’s not as popular as others here so it won’t get voted in
Jack MacArthur
2022-01-19 14:00:14 +0000 UTCPretty tough choice. But Taboo for me, knowing it's pretty metal influenced at the end it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on it.

2022-01-19 13:58:58 +0000 UTCOh fuck, glad to see Killer Mike but it makes more sense seeing Run The Jewels 4 on the list. That's definitely peak Mike plus ya know El-P. In my unsolicited opinion of course
