TECH N9NE - Anghellic When people hear TECH N9NE for the first time they say, “wow this is a really versatile group.” Spoiler: it’s one guy that switches flows, voice, style every few seconds effortlessly. Rappers like to flow on beats, Tech N9ne on the other hand creates a mosh pit of flows on a beat. Imagine 45 people crashing into each other in a crowd. Tech Nine is all 45 people but on one song. Tech nine is an underground legend. I have suggested his album from 2000, before he was widely know because it highlights his struggle as an artist who was not allowed into the mainstream rap scene. With red hair and tribal face paint in concert, he just didn’t fit the rapper look. His sound is dark and gritty with punk rock, horror movie scores and church/choir influences that can’t help but seep through the music. It rebels against the sounds coming New York and West coast in the early 2000s which could be boiled down to biggie and 2pac renditions. (After both died) Tech Nice is slacker, rap star on tour for us independent label who is thriving in the drugs, sex, and vices that come with tour life. He goes out of his way to spit in the face of generic rappers, religion, monogamy, politics and thug culture in a way that stays witty and lighthearted. If you are looking for a downward spiral, tech nine encapsulated the downward spiral of being a drug addicted rap star in this album. Note: Everready is held as his best album, but this one is my favorite.

J Cole, Danny Brown, Madvillan. All great artists with great albums but honestly all nap time music. Not bad music but me suggest a few albums with a bit more rage. DMX - It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot DMX is a complex artist who is a roller coaster powered on emotion with lyrics that can outshine artist features like Jay Z on his album. If you are inserting him into your Good Kid Mad City universe that you have done so often with Pac,Jay, Nas and Kendrick….DMX is a junk yard pitbull chained to a pole, barking and foaming at the mouth waiting to attack anyone or anything trespassing his yard. The energizing beats that rappers usually underwhelm on with mellow rhymes and flows are not present here. DMX pushes beats out of the way to yell and rap over. This album is an emotional roller coaster that takes all forms, you may feel like you are popping a wheelie on a 4 wheeler, then the next track you get ab understanding the pain that someone who has nothing but a drug addiction. When his features are packing in violent amazingly intricate lyrics into raw gritty beats, you feel like you are waiting for DXM to crash threw a wall and hit the first person he sees with a lead pipe like a WWE wrestler. Although I’ve highlighted euphoria, pain and rage this album does not lack lyrically. All styles can be found here, lyrical songs full of zingers and one liners, compelling stories, a look into who the person behind the artist.

J Dot

I really wanna see your reaction to Kendrick’s “DAMN.” Another totally different album than TPAB or GKMC but it’s incredible and won a Pulitzer Prize so yea I’d love that

SuperFuego

it’s definitely worth a listen. try out his first album, Return of 4eva. That album is also amazing, and would probably leave you alittle more open to trying the one suggested up here. Only suggestion is you listen to the youtube version, because a lot of samples weren’t cleared on spotify or apple.

Jorge Campos Jr.

especially now that youre tackling older artists, hes probably the only or one of the only new age rappers who makes boom bap (90s type rap)

Jose Aguilar

I dont think i’ve seen him in your mentions much but definitely check out joey bada$$ and his mixtape 1999 (best spot to start imo) he has insaneee lyrical talent especially when tou consider the fact he wrote his mixtape when he was 16/17, have hardly heard bad songs from him solely because hes such a clever and witty writer i think you would enjoy him

Jose Aguilar

He's on my list, and I'd like to get to him sooner than later. Lots of requests for his work (Because the Internet)

Bob_the_Poppop

Given that you loved Tyler i would highly recommend Childish Gambino. Both for the music and also because Gambino went through a very similar character development to Tyler, transitioning from an immature rapper into a Grammy winning artist. Love your videos :))

LP

That sounds awesome, really, but it will be tough to get to with it being a double album. I like what you've described here though. It sounds great!

Bob_the_Poppop

He's on my list, but to be honest, he hasn't gotten a lot of suggestions

Bob_the_Poppop

Next week is Reasonable Doubt, then I do TPAB

Bob_the_Poppop

Yeah, I really wanna check that one out

Bob_the_Poppop

Kid Cudi is on the list, but I haven't rotated him in yet. All of these albums are on my list lol, just gotta get through them

Bob_the_Poppop

Sounds good, I look forward to hearing it 🤘

Bob_the_Poppop

Three Six Mafia = W

Cullen Hendricks

vouch!!! ttablo would be amazing

you should react to bladee - eversince !!!! it’s a spacey/dreamy rap album from an artist from sweden :) he has a big underground following & im sure people would love to see you react to ir

Big KRIT - 4Eva Is a Mighty Long Time I know you’re not familiar with Big KRIT, but he’s a Mississippi-based rapper/producer who had an outstanding mixtape run in the early 2010s before signing with Def Jam, who promptly halted any momentum he had. So he eventually went independent and in 2017 released 4Eva Is a Mighty Long Time, his masterpiece. For my money, the best album of 2017 and one of the best albums of the last decade. It’s a concept double-album that explores duality. The first half is the “Big KRIT” side, which is focused more on his stage persona and contains your more classic, southern bangers. The second half is the “Justin Scott” side, which is more soulful, jazzy, nuanced and introspective. Production is absolutely stellar throughout with lots of live instrumentation, especially on the Justin Scott side. And the album has plenty of great features (T.I., UGK, CeeLo Green and Sleepy Brown, Jill Scott, Joi, etc.). Basically, it’s a classic project that I am dead certain you would enjoy, and I hope you’re able to get to it at some point, whether it’s on here or in your free time.

Chance

if feel like you should do jay z's album next since 2pac is a massive character in to pimp a butterfly

January should include Lil Wayne Tha Carter III. Lil Wayne is one of the most influential rappers of the 2000s/2010s. He came up during the bling era and made a name for himself in the southern hip hop scene. Tha Carter 3 is the first album that hit a super mainstream audience as he mainly blew up off mixtapes. He’s a word play genius and honestly he’s fun to listen to. I really like him because he was my early introduction into hip hop.

Lex

bottomless pit is also another great death grips record !!

allie hernandez

you might also enjoy listening to some kid cudi :)

allie hernandez

36 chambers is also, in my opinion, a perfect album

allie hernandez

and of course, as a kanye fan, graduation is something i listen to when i wanna smile and have a good time. it's full of good vibes. and miseducation is one of my favourite rap/r&b albums, its amazing from start to finish, To Zion makes me cry when i hear it.

allie hernandez

graduation, lauren hill's miseducation and madvillainy are all incredible, and i will say, there's a reason that madvillainy is regarded as not only one of the best hip-hop albums of all time but just generally one of the best albums of all time. MF DOOM's flows, rhyme-schemes and wordplay are completely unmatched. he's funny, smooth and carefree, off-beat, and deep and thoughtful at times all while rhyming multiple words within each rhyme-scheme for most of every song. he has multiple characters in his universe that he has built through his albums, some of them showing up on Madvillainy. It's a concept album about being a supervillain. Madlib's production is also incredible, it's an audio collage of different samples, cop shows, superhero movies and funk and soul records with interludes that tell the story of the album perfectly.

allie hernandez

Excited for the lineup! Like someone already said, Denzel’s Taboo is an album not to miss. Separately it would be kinda nice if you put the 5th reaction only on Patreon, could pull some more people in and would just be cool of you.

Mr.Business

Nice!

Bob_the_Poppop

I really need to do Earl. Really, really. He's a strong candidate for January since he's been recommended for so long

Bob_the_Poppop

I really wanna hit another Death Grips album. They're so unique, and I love what they do even if they sometimes get beyond my range

Bob_the_Poppop

Denzel is another one I'm interested in. I did see his Rage cover, and it was really good.

Bob_the_Poppop

I would get Untitled/Unmastered DAMN by Kendrick ASAP after TPAB. Kendrick has a new album on deck and reacting to it when it drops will be HUGE for your channel, but I like that you have been doing these discographies in order. If I was you would do those two next just to be caught up on his discography. And don't skip Untitled Unmastered, it's not some throw away EP, it's a 9/10 album. I'm so jealous, I wish I could go hear TPAB again for the first time. If you want to do some awesome bonus track videos, Kendrick has the Heart parts 1-4 that are amazing, and he has a song called Cartoons and Cereal that if you don't react to, at least listen to. It's so good.

fightnerd

Kid Cudi's man on the moon trilogy is great (especially 1 and 2) should check him out in the next few months, also if you ever want any female hip hop I agree little simz past 2 albums have been incredible.

Colm

If your looking for female representation, some names to look at are : little simz, rhapsody, noname, che noir

Brandon Lechler

Gotta react to Care for me by Saba in january. You will love it. Great personal storytelling, so much self reflection and looking at situations from multiple angles. Grief and trajedy mixed in. Excellent and varied delivery of the lines. Truly one of my most cherished newer albums and i can see you really enjoying the thoughtfulness that is crafted in the lyrics

Brandon Lechler

That’s crazy you’re doing Die Lit on my birthday lol

TwistedMetal

I’m always going to be more excited to see your reactions to more experimental and contemporary examples of hiphop but I also like how you throw some oldies in there because it’s important to experience the full spectrum of hiphop. Denzel Curry is one that I’m very excited to see you react to if you ever choose to listen to him. He’s a pioneer of South Florida hiphop and the appeal of his work is the incorporation of his astounding technical rapping proficiency into contemporary sounds. Kanye is my favorite hiphop artist but Denzel Curry is my favorite rapper

Justin

ALSO you neeed to react to earl sweatshirt! Such a good lyricist and was best buddies with tyler back in the day. His 2013 album Doris would be a good place to start and then eventually react to Some Rap Songs which is a super unique album that you'd just chew into the lyrics for. I'd also love to see your reaction to his 10 minute song/EP titled "Solace" which is one of if not the best depiction of depression in music that I've ever seen. Hopefully this bumps him up your list, lol

eich

Excited. Definitely i say try and fit some 36 mafia or outkast or geto boys into january so you can touch on the "South" influence that eventually took over hiphop around the 00s..oh man cant wait for you to get some bone thugs in the suggestions as well. Hip hop is just awesome. Currently listening to "the bridge" on spotify Nas' hip hop podcast suggest it to any hiphop heads reading this.

Paul Salvador Estrada

W really looking forward to all of them. I wish you could give us a preview for like the next 3 months lol but obviously that's too much to ask for. I'd also like more death grips just because if you were mindfucked by the money store then some of there other stuff would mindfuck you even more, but since you did money store so recently I'm not expecting that yet.

eich

i honestly like being surprised at what album is coming next, and you NEED to react to taboo by denzel curry, it has some elements of rock and distortion that you’d probably like , and denzel has even done a live cover of bulls on parade that you’d probably enjoy a lot

jakob

So excited for TPAB, Madvillany and Graduation, and i’m excited to dive into some new albums alongside you as well. Thanks for the great content!
