Behind the Scenes stuff: Starting a comic page

I thought it'd be fun to share my process a little.

this is how all my comics start out. it's super basic but it helps me get a feel for the composition and how things should be laid out. I think I'm getting better the more I do it.

I usually start with a very basic idea of what the joke is gonna be. I work out the basic flow and beats of the conversation and decide who's going to say things when. Then I work out and write in the general gist of what people say. The exact dialogue isn't finalized until I do the word bubbles at the very end.

I used to be really afraid of doing comics, but it got a lot easier once I realized I can get really sloppy with my planning
