Some Patreon Changes
Added 2019-04-20 18:59:11 +0000 UTCHey there, I just wanted to let my fine supporters know that I am going to be doing some restructuring. As I said in the last announcement, for the most part nothing is changing for anyone at the "A Bit Nutty" tier. You won't be getting any less than you got before, or rather, you won't be getting less than what you should have gotten before my adventure to Hospitalland.
So what is changing right now?
The goals section, for a start. Considering my current situation, it no longer applies. The goal will be changing to reflect my desire to continue writing as something more full time than part time, which will help me continue with my promise of two chapters per story per week and my personal goal of three to four per story per week.
As of this moment, "A Broken World" has had four chapters published here and after I finish these changes on Patreon I will be editing the three chapters of "Mystic Ink" and the two chapters of "A Dungeon Core" with the goal of having them on Patreon sometime tonight. The other four stories will have chapters tomorrow, but they may end up being rewrites to a certain extent.
Tomorrow being Easter does complicate things a bit, but there will also likely be another "A Dungeon Core" chapter and I would like to do another "Mystic Ink" chapter if I can. Though time constraints from spending the day with my family may make that difficult, so the latter of the two is just a hope.
I would very much like to continue that level of writing, but it certainly is a full time thing. Which brings me to the changes and additions to the $5 dollar tier rewards. Having considered the options and the cost of living, as well as the fact that I do not want to reduce the value of the $1 tier out of principle, I instead want to increase the value of the $5 tier, and I want to increase it significantly.
Realistically speaking, my Patreon will need to reach something like $1600 a month to reach the value of having even a $10/hour full time job. It is a figure that certainly would not leave me much room for anything but basic living, but it would cover that, if barely. As much as I love my one dollar supporters, I am not likely to reach that figure without a big jump in people picking the higher tier.
After thinking about it for a while, I have decided to add the following to the $5 tier.
-Monthly AMA's here on Patreon with one guaranteed answer to a question, plus an answer to any question I find interesting or want to talk about.
-Irregular Stories: In what I hope will be the biggest draw, I have decided to take the stories that I have not released before and do so. However, these stories, having originally been small side projects I was playing around with and writing the occasional chapter to store for future use, are not something I want to interfere with the stories already being published.
Instead of a release weekly on Royal Road and biweekly (or three or four times a week) here on Patreon, the irregular stories will have a monthly release on Royal Road and a release every two weeks on Patreon.
To be honest, I am rather uncertain about this idea, and would appreciate any input any of you would happen to have on it. As part of that, I'll be putting the first chapter of most the Irregular Stories up for all Patrons to take a look at today. The stories are listed below, please let me know what you think about them and this idea.
--The Enchanters Apprentice- A story about a young enchanter who is suddenly teleported far from his home while identifying a magic artifact. Suddenly gone from a country with high magical literacy to a backwater where magic is almost legendary, he and the people he meets struggle to survive at the edge of the wilderness.
--WorldBuilder- Ever since "The Breath of Creation" came out, I loved the idea so much I wanted to do it myself. When the author of the story came out and said he was going to stop writing it, I decided to give the idea a spin. A human becomes reincarnated as a god, and not just any god, but a Creator God tasked to build his own universe. Doing so brings challenges and struggles that test even the expanded mind of the nigh-omnipotent protagonist.
--Fallen Angel (Needs some editing before I publish)- A man lives a good life and when he dies goes to join the angels in heaven- except that he had never believed in heaven and now that he knows it exists, holds it accountable for many of the problems on Earth. Rather than pass the gates of heaven, he chooses to take a leap off the edge instead and falls- but not to Earth. Instead he finds himself in a world with levels and monsters and a status screen that shows his race as "Fallen Angel."
Like I said, I am a bit iffy on the Irregular Story idea, but honestly I just can't think of good rewards.
If anyone has suggestions, I would love to hear them. What would entice you to donate $5? All ideas are appreciated, and all of you are appreciated whether you be $1 or $5 or those strange folk who donated really weird decimals for some reason!
