XDINARY HEROES Live and Fall Album and Behind Recording

I genuinely think Xdinary Heroes are the ONLY THING keeping me sane atm.

Their unpredictability, creativity, talent and artistry is just unmatched. This really made me soo happy and I think is my favourite album AND comeback of theirs so far.

Once again the title track is pretty safe and predictable and I understand it's for the masses but the masses would be like WTF when they listen to the rest of the album so surely that isn't a great thing?

And that legend's vocals did NOT disappoint! Loved how open and friendly he was with the boys, they were clearly gagged. It made me feel so good inside!

Also O.De's VOCALS throughout??! My god.

PLEASE. WHY DID I CALL CHESTER SPENCER?!??!?!?! Sorry King, love you :(

Enjoy!

ON PURPOSE??! ODGHFSLH wtf I guess he wants more grit in his voice but yikes. But i'm so happy to see you here!! And I soooo agree, the live clips are sooo good especially Save me which i looved here.

Koko3op

Also they are SO LIKEABLE WTF. I watched a couple of interviews, and I wish them all of the success in the worldπŸ˜‚ They recently went on this show called BANDMAN which was super funny, and i definitely recommend you watch it. In the interview Jooyeon casually mentioned that he has vocal nodules, and that he developed them ON PURPOSE which is kind of concerningπŸ˜…

Heyy, you sent me here from the skz Giant comment section:) I’m very pleasantly surprised by this band, definitely did not expect so much versatility in their discography. I do wish that they would keep some of their studio mixes more raw, since I find myself enjoying their Live Clips more than their studio recordings. Will absolutely be keeping an eye on them from now on, thanks for putting me on!😁

August3

Yess i'll definitely watch their lives and weekly idol at some point!!

Koko3op

just rewatched this reaction (for like the 3rd time... anyway) and i really think you should watch their xymphony live clip because jungsu did NOT come to play with the keyboard (+ our synth king ode taking over when jungsu is singing !! he needs to get his flowers too) even if it's maybe not your favorite song out of the album i think it would still be interesting to watch ! and they also have a live clip for feeling nice (and you already watched instead's one, BUT there is a concert performance with yoon dohyun on their yt channel πŸ‘€) also they released the recording behind for the title track, and apart from that if you feel like watching some variety content i really really recommend watching their episode on lily's issue club (they have great chemistry with her because they've known each others since they were trainees, it's fun to watch) and their last episode on weekly idol for this comeback !!

I've noticed some new concert clips of Jooyeon, and he doesn't sound strained at all. It actually seems like he's been practicing vocal techniques lately. Just like in Money on My Mind, he hits the high notes at the end without showing any signs of struggle. They also recently performed Strawberry Cake at Uhmg Studio, and it sounded even better than the actual audio. Could you react to Feeling Nice and Xmphony live while I'm still subscribed to your Patreon? Please pleaseeee.

Jooyeon mentioned in his bubble that he’s working to restore is original voice. So hopefully we’ll be able to hear it soon!! Thank you always for the xh content! ❀️❀️❀️❀️

It's a pleasure to watch you enjoy their music

Kseniya

so glad that they were busy and booked, they deserve this and more

Kseniya

Aww thank you I really appreciate that, we are in this together!!

Koko3op

Damn!!

Just wanted to send a comment of appreciation - obviously the past few days have been something else in the kpop world, but I wanted a pick-me-up so I just went back and watched all your Xdinary Heroes videos and you slowly falling for them. It was a really nice distraction, and made me happy and excited all over again πŸ₯°

Oh, it was more than a pleasant surprise, I was frickin floored! My dark little metalhead heart was screaming in joy lol. Yoon Dohyun's voice does remind me a little bit of the late great Chester Bennington from Linkin Park too, which is funny you bring that up bc XH actually got to interview Linkin Park on their recent tour stop in Korea w/ their new lead singer (who's a lady!). The stark contrast between his growls and clean singing also reminds me of a Ukranian band called Jinjer. Their frontwoman Tatiana can scream and growl like a demon with this insane level of control, then without even taking a breath switch to this super smooth clean singing that has a lot of influence from 90s pop, reggae, and a bit of ska. It's WILD. If you're interested as a vocal nerd, check out their song Pisces live session and vocal one take of Judgement & Punishment.

They did a monthly project, and each month, they held three concerts for the releases. Between that, they did festivals and came to the US for a showcase in New York (I went to it) and LA. They had to add another LA show because it sold out. They were busy and booked. I think even Jungsu missed a performance somewhere because he got sick.

Candice Blair

Jungsu and Jooyeon were like, nope, we can't hit those notes in "Instead," I'm glad they didn't force it, especially Jooyeon since he's the more daring of the two. They have a video called "The Build-Up of Live and Fall," in which they discuss the process of the album and its songs.

Candice Blair

he looked ethereal in that wig wdym ahahaah

Eleanor Carys

Ahhh thats good to hear, he has a powerful instrument and still has time to train it and improve. Kelly Clarkson is the best example of someone that use to strain and then developed flawless technique. Oooo good to know regarding Weekly.

Koko3op

Loved their interaction with YB! There is a live video on their YouTube of the concert performance and YB comes on stage. And Jooyeon is wearing a wig that looked great in the mv but looks funny in person. They did β€œFeeling Nice” on the radio and Jooyeon sounded great! Thanks for the XH reaction! I always love your videos of them. And I liked the β€œuntil the end of time” break! :) Someone else mentioned Jooyeon’s voice straining in the concerts and I agree. There are many clips of him singing with soothing candies. But I think the last set of concerts and the festivals he sounded great so hopefully he is getting a good voice saving routine. (Also XH will be on weekly idol today (Wednesday) and the previews look funny. Just fyi but no pressure of course)

Linz

Haha you must've been for such a pleasant surprise hearing this from a group in the kpop sphere but I imagine you being able to enjoy k-pop whilst being a metalhead is similar to how I can find something to enjoy in most music genres if the melody, production or vocals are there. Instead is just SUPER impressive like my god. I'll see those live performances off camera for sure.

Koko3op

Also, I was really pleasantly surprised by how much you liked Instead, I was convinced it was going to be too out there and heavy for you πŸ˜… But honestly, I know a lot of people who grew up w/ R&B, gospel, jazz, funk, even disco, who actually end up being able to really appreciate a lot of rock and metal or become full-on metalheads, so I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised lol. Maybe someone who actually knows something about music can identify why, likely some shared rhythms and melodies or something.

Lynn Pratt

As a lifelong metalhead who only just fell down a kpop rabbit hole a couple years ago, I never in a million years thought that I'd hear a sound like this from a relatively mainstream band like XH. Didn't think JYPE would really let them go there, given how this isn't terribly marketable in Korea. But they really went for it, which having a legendary and highly respected rock singer featuring probably helped a lot in convincing the company to let them go for it. The bass in Instead is incredible. As far as their own tastes this is actually closest to Jooyeon's musical tastes, from what I can tell, but in a breakdown of the album he said that the bass is so intense that he just couldn't sing as much of it as he wanted so he had to be like "Jungsu, I know this style isn't your usual thing, but you're gonna have to hold down this one for me" lol. Jungsu actually said he really liked the challenge of trying different tones and techniques than he usually does. And yeah, of course Yoon Dohyun is incredible! He actually has a killing voice if you're interested. His band YB has actually done a wide range of styles, from classic ballads to heavy metal. If you recognize him, maybe you saw the stage that YB did w/ Le Sserafim at an awards show last year? Oh, and heads up, XH did live performances of the title track and Feeling Nice on a radio show today, so definitely check those out if you have a mo!

Lynn Pratt

Haha Im so grateful thank you!! AHHH yess that makes sense then, he'll definitely find it easier as time goes on.

Koko3op

Nah because their β€˜song every month’ project actually was the best part of my summer. I wish other groups would also do interesting long term projects like this, although maybe it only worked because they’re band who make their own music? I could see Stray Kids doing something similar though perhaps. I think doing 3 concerts every month on top of recording songs and attending festivals definitely took a toll on Jooyeon’s voice though because over the months I and other fans noticed he was getting more raspier and strained. I think because he has a lot of the growling and shouting parts because previously he’s been able to hit those notes in Strawberry Cake more comfortably. I think he’s said he’s trying to take better care of his voice so that’s good. This was such a fun album though, whereas Troubleshooting felt a bit more classically rock, this has the XDH alternative sound which I loveeee. Xyphony is very Tim Burton/Halloween coded but I think my favourite is definitely iNSTEAD! I mean what other group right now in mainstream kpop is touching heavy metal? I was so glad they decided to get a feature to do the screaming instead of Jooyeon because that would have seriously stressed me out for his throat and YB's scream was really impressive. They did a really funny episode with Lily from NMIXX to promote Save Me, which I would recommend (I think it was called ISSUE CLUB?) Thank you for the reaction though! I’m glad I can be back to your patreon, I can only afford months on and off depending on what shifts I get ahahaha
