TRIPLES Assemble Album Review

Eeek.

This review WILL be scathing I fear LOOOOL but ... if i can't say it here then where else, it's simply how I feel :).

Let me preface this by saying the music is ACTUALLY not bad, initially I had fun.

Ok.

Ready??

This is a waste of fucking time. TWENTY FOUR members and it sounds like your average run of the mil  5 member group????? Now the positives are the PRODUCTION for sure. It's fresh, unique and doesn't sound like it was done half heartedly which I definitely appreciate. Unfortunately it's accompanied by some of the least impactful voices I've ever heard. There's one girl who I nicknamed Melody thornton (all high notes but no depth) who squeezed some high belts but it didn't hit like I wanted cos there was no build up.

I genuinely do not see the point of THESE 24 members. Maybe drop half, develop the remaining 12 properly so they can deliver decent music like IVE even though their vocals aren't the main focal point.

I hope this will be like NCT where they only come together as a whole every now and then but I'm sorry, the main reason NCT worked is because there's so much individuality between the members, stylistically, vocally and dance style wise.

I think I got more irritated cos I was genuinely excited for them as a full group so listening to this was a task. MAYBE they'll grow into something special but if the vocals remain like this I'm cool.

Enjoy!

It's even funnier that ARTMS had a bigger foundation to build off of being formerly LOONA, whereas sometimes it feels like Jayden is just copying what he was doing with LOONA for TRIPLE S, sonically at least, the different being LOONA had far more talent in their vocal line.

Hahahaha

Koko3op

What drives me crazy is their company keeps trying to drill it into our heads that they're artms's little sisters so why tf do they not sound like it even a little bit 😭😭

Hi! This is my first time requesting but I was wondering if you could react to the Jay Park Lee Mujin Service that just came out? It would be interesting to hear your take.

Yuuuupp

lol I’m nosy and needed to know what the line distribution looked liked and it seemed one girl had 20ish seconds while the majority have 1.2 or 2.1 seconds. Then I looked at the performance videos and….how do you have so many girls and still make the most boring choreography I’ve ever seen. At least get creative with formations but no they just stand in lines and Vs 😩. I hate big groups like this it’s so pointless to me. Hope they just stick to subunits but tbh even their subunit songs aren’t really my cup of tea.

Joy

Sub-units are the way to go. Hopefully the 24 stays as a marketing stunt. Side-note: These large groups just ring of future exploitation to me. The company insuring themselves from losing members and preventing any member from gaining negotiation power.

Spot-on about the vocal production! Though, coming from a different angle, I would want to add that people need to stop acting as if the size of groups like this is motivated by anything other than concerns over generating profit, as if the NFT-component (Urgh!) and the marketing language therein ("masters", really?? Urgh!!) does not make it clear enough; it's about training as many people as possible at the same time, which lowers costs. Then, although they might still train together in the trainee stage, the revelatory nature of groups like this, where members are added all the time, makes it very difficult to properly develop the actual group. And giving the "masters"/fans the power to decide on songs and many group configurations throws another wrench into the machine, which, by the way, in an ideal world, obviously would be operated by the artists themselves, but even the company here isn't offering proper guidance under the pretense of "empowering" the fan. But it doesn't matter to the company, because the reveals themselves are what drive engagement; if there are "infinite possibilities", you an just postpone meaningful development forever. And then you cancel the group and make a new one. Idol teams generally are basically hostage situations, whether they exhibit skill at what they do or not, but TripleS is a particularly visible case, where the interest of finance capital and fandom fetishization work together to erase all the pretenses and center what's always mattered in the field; pure idolatry; it's never been about vocals, dancing, etc; it's about generating capital. And that's always going to be an exercise in dehumanization under the pretense of creating ideal behavior, whether that's the ability to sing or dance or be charming in only very particular ways. I think the artistic qualities of the MV and the ways in which the team is showcased on the album have to be seen in that light. That doesn't mean it isn't artistic or they're not skilled at what they do; it means there is very little space and interest in developing those skills, visions, etc. beyond what is most assuredly going to generate profit anyway. And if it doesn't generate profit any longer, you disband the group and make a new one; wrap it all up in the language of tragedy and start anew, etc. etc.

I think they’ll only be doing a full group once every 2 years maybe- and stick with the subunits? or least I hope so- gotta say production wise, it’s always quite good, they even have a member who produces music for them which is a plus I suppose- next comeback needs to be a subunit 100% with better vocal blending

Myoi's wife

Haha nah it’s a compliment to them honestly

Koko3op

You’re so real for the hair dye comment LOOL it’s nuts

Koko3op

i dont really care for the 24 member concept, i just think the music is fantastic by my tastes and one member (sohyun) stands out enough to me to keep an eye on her lol, otherwise its just not for me. i entirely agree with the points made; no standout voices make the whole big group concept fall flat. nct works because of strong *individuality*, something modhaus as a company struggles with, promoting this clean shiny black and white image for everyone.. its just SO not it sorry its SUPER boring to me!!! why don't we grab a box of hair dye????? anyways some positive words: for what it gives the album is incredible to me, 24, beyond the beyond, and dimension were my favorites. im glad non scale went to them, it suits them more than it would artms (there was a chance it wouldve gone to them instead). incredibly disappointed the dance break in gnd isnt included in the track on spotify, though! anyways that's my two cents, i wish them well but overall i dont think ill be into them as a group. i WILL be listening to every album release however ☝🏿

cali

I actually really like the album but with so many members it would’ve been nice to see singers with something unique that hasn’t been in kpop. As a fan I would want to be able to differentiate the members but they’re being directed to sound the same which doesn’t help when there 24 of them😭

sussan

overindulgent! just too much.. and you’re right.. this just feels like… maybe 3 singers lol

mist

It does make me miss early gen 3 when small/midsize companies were able to make successful vocally based groups where everyone could sing like OMG or Lovelyz.. These days it seems like it's only sm and jyp that's holding onto that (which technically billlie and XH are sort of)

Edward Lee

viviz catching strays esjkhr

absql

I wasn't rlly interested in listening to their music outside of the tiktok snippets but I absolutely love the title and its concept. I haven't listened to the album yet tho

Kai Leon

Well if i reacted to her OSTs it may have been different. I'm just going based off what they made her do on this album but yeah vocals are definitely not a selling point anymore but for now I'll hold out for BILLLIE, ZB1, Xdinary Heroes and NMIXX at least.

Koko3op

3 even oidhfsio. Viviz outsinging them :(

Koko3op

They've said officially they'll only do the full group occasionally bc theyre not dumb, everyone knows 24 is untenable. That being said, it definitely is obvious they spent $$$$ on the production. Since their start all of their songs (while simple) have sounded EXCELLENTLY produced. I know you focus on vocals but let's be real, in the current state of kpop vocals have become the LEAST important aspect of kpop and doesn't sell anymore (at least in korea). This whole 24 member thing is just a hook and when it comes to kpop what matters is appealing to pre teens and teens in korea, not old geezers like us hahahaha and this group (outside of their music) is doing a LOT in korea to appeal to that. But I agree....the music is rather simple and didn't need 24 (and a little unfair to dahyun bagging on her voice like that....shes shown her vocal chops with all the OSTs she's done...shes capable of more but the decision was made to do it the way she did for the song that 95% most likely wasn't her choice)

Edward Lee

i really liked this album, and there are multiple good vocalists in triples but they don’t get to showcase their vocals in a 24 member group 😭 i 100% agree that they should take the nct route, i hope they make music in multiple units again because i cannot imagine them continuing as a permanent 24 member group like this

emma

I agree, I like the title track a lot actually and most of the title tracks, but they don't blow me away. It's not anything new, usually pretty safe sounding music and vocals that blend together. I DON'T think they need 24 members. Honestly, they could probably still make the same kind of music with 9 or less.
