Lucas Doc Part 2

As I discuss at the end I definitely know where I stand with him now, I think lool. I'm not his defender but the evidence and media isn't showing that he's the villain speculation has magnified him out to be.

Also as others have a discussed, a young flawed attractive man overly sexualised by his company was bound to develop a complex and be toxic lool. If he has learned his lesson and is going to atone, I trust him way MORE than idols we know nothing about because they're sure up to the same and worse behind the scenes but just haven't been caught yet.

Cos how it looks to me, IF the worst of the rumours were true, SM would've dropped him without missing a heartbeat, screw the Chinese market cos I don't think he'll be successful there anyway. It also explains why the translations can be vague, maybe he's not even aware of some of the rumours that were out there so won't verify. They wouldn't do all this to an idol that's guilty, especially one who's non-Korean.

That's where I'm at. I just wish things were more transparent but if someone is trying to apologise, what else do we want? Don't we want them to have a chance to prove they've changed and grown? Otherwise there are no second chances for any of us.

I agree

The woman didn't press charges so they didn't arrest him. But a woman was assaulted and it was at an escort bar. The police revised their statement and said that it was uncertain if she was his girlfriend considering the circumstances.

My thoughts on this are similar to yours. I think he did stuff that would be barely noticed in Western pop (slept around, behaved like a d***). I don't see criminal behavior. Its just that these actions completely went against his idol image of the perfect boyfriend, so his hiatus was inevitable. But then, I'm a guy and I like lots of toxic artists, so my judgement is different. I can see many fans are a lot angrier than me. Overall, I think his career can be salvaged. Because I see the anger but there's also attention and indifference is what actually kills careers. SM has to do better than these documentaries though if they are serious about reviving his career. These are simply not good enough

now lets not rewrite history, after the second dui he left like there was no coming back from that and each time he turned himself in after the accident knowing that it would be the end of his career as an idol and he NEVER assualted any woman, he got into a fight with some guy at a bar bc he was DEFENDING a woman from him, its crazy how people still spread the same misinformation, i dont have an opinion on lucas but lets not lie abt others

there are several men who have committed crimes and returned to the industry just fine because companies dgaf if men are harmful. sm literally resigned kangin despite him drunk driving TWICE (crashing into a pole the second time and couldnt even tell if it was a person or not) and assaulting his gf at a bar. knowing that, why wouldnt they continue to support lc who was one of their most popular idols in recent years and had plenty of fans who were willing to support him unconditionally? assuming men are innocent if theyre still being supported by their company is dangerous territory imo.

You said exactly what I always say about idols potentially being unknowingly bad ppl we just don't know it because they haven't been caught. Which is why I never put anything past an idol because at the end of the day we don't them at all we only know what they tell us and what the camera shows us other than that we don't know what goes on behind closed door because at the end of the day they are still human just like all of us.

One thing to note for SM scandals. If the idol goes on hiatus, there is some truth to the allegations usually. If SM starts drafting a lawsuit then that means there is not enough proof or it's false. Look at past scandals and this is mostly true. They rarely kick people out of the company/part with them unless the idols directly interfere with income (TVXQ, Jessica, and potentially EXO). I do think people deserve second chances but my issue is with the stans. Lucas has admitted that he did something wrong (twice now). But fans keep downplaying, manipulating evidence (!!!) to convince people that the allegations were false, discrediting evidence as not being enough (which raises the question of "What is 'enough'?"), or feigning confusion about what exactly he was accused of to avoid feeling bad about still supporting him. This happens with male idols specifically when it comes to sexual assault or cheating allegations. What he was accused of is asking fans he dated for expensive gifts, emotional manipulation, cheating, and refusing to wear condoms/shower before sex. Plus there are the underlying power dynamics inherent in these types of relationships. Are any of these crimes (unless the sexual coercion allegation is true)? No. But are they scummy behavior? Absolutely. Is there potential to grow and recover from this? Yes. But for someone like Lucas, his entire career lives and dies based on perception. He isn't particularly noteworthy in dance, rap, or singing and has to rely on his likability and looks. His likability took a huge hit, and he can't just fall back into the bubbly, goofy persona. This documentary doesn't really help with anything other than seeing if he still has an audience and informing people that SM is still going to support him.

Monte

Yes, I don't see SM taking the risk of re-debuting Lucas if the worst of the allegations were true. Especially because some of it would come with legal/criminal implications and if actual hard evidence ever came to light....... Ofc he is not an angel, but think about how many "devils" are hiding with angel masks on in Kpop and the entertainment industry as a whole.

Christine Nguyen

I definitely agree with that take. I’m not saying he is innocent by any means but SM are so quick to drop their artists over the dumbest things and they have zero mercy for their foreign artists. Unless Lucas has some intel on someone important in there that he threatened to leak or he just lucked the fuck out and they love him down, then the situation must have been blown way out of proportion. I also think because Lucas has always had this confident (some might say overconfident and borderline cocky) energy that people were quick to escalate the rumours based on their already established opinions of him. But if I’m going to be honest, I think the reason why people dislike him so much is that there is not one soul that has received this type of special treatment from SM. People have been kicked out of their groups for less but they’re riding for him. It seems very sketchy and very unfair.

Kpopiana

Yes, I think everyone deserves a second chance. If it was just cheating that was part of the allegations, then I think people would be more willing to give him another chance, but the other parts of the allegations was way too much. I'm not defending him at all. I wish that we could get a clearer statement about the "bad things" he knows he did. Unfortunately, I don't think that'll ever happen. I just think it's odd for SM to do this doc about an idol who was gone for 2 years due to allegations....and not address said allegations that caused the 2 year hiatus. I'm glad you brought up that SM purposely sexualized him so much. I also felt uncomfortable in the make a wish mv where it's just 8 seconds of him leaning back with a seductive look. Plus there's no vocals going on it's just the instrumental. I always skipped that part. I wouldn't be surprised if that image SM pushed on him played a part in the way he viewed himself and women. Again I'm not trying to defend him, just trying to understand him. Also if SM is doing a redemption arc for Lucas then I know damn well Seunghan better be coming back soon lmao

Ellie

True. SM tends to drop their idols to save their own quite easily. I'm sure he has done things that would make him a bad person but so does everybody. He is only human but he is an idol and thats why it got worse for him. To be honest, never really been a big fan of him to begin with so it didnt affect me that much when he went on hiatus but I do feel for the guy. The fact that SM has given him another chance means there is something more to what happened to him that what we know. Hope he can get his career back even for a little piece of it. He did work hard to get to where he is and I felt bad for him when he lost it all because of the scandal. Again, nobody is perfect and I am sure there are idols that have done worse that we dont know yet...

Apple

i feel the same way, Regardless of whether he did it or not, he is apologizing and has had a lot of time to reflect, there are people who have done worse things and people forget it in a day

Javiera Lara miranda

I’m with you Micah. Although based on what I discovered when I looked into this whole thing for myself 2 years ago, I lean more to the side of feeling pity for him and astonishment at the sloppiness of some of the pieces of ‘evidence’ brought forth against him 😂 a few were rather amusing honestly. But I think you conveyed my exact thoughts at this point. There’s a lot we don’t know but enough that common sense can tell us and it’s up to each one to take their own personal stance here, and stop being obsessed with influencing or convincing others about it 💙
