Kim Sejeong Album Review
Added 2023-09-14 13:41:08 +0000 UTCI KNEW I wasn't going to like her music so I really and truly wanted to listen to her sing.
I PRAY she gets some solid A&R and artist development so her solo music has more of a specific identity than generic ballads or uninspiring production that is nowhere near as commanding or exciting as her voice.
I'd LOVE for her to lean into a country like sound/groove or ballads with stronger melodies/hooks and bigger vocal moments that I know only SHE can do. That would make her much more exciting and memorable to me.
Still, her voice is something special!

i knew you were not going to be a big fan of her music works, but i really hope you don't lost interest to her. IMO, she is the ideal definition of what an "artist" is in every single aspect, even though her achievements and popularity are not there yet, but she is the type of person meant to be there. Still tho, nice and honest reaction is always good to see.

2024-01-15 20:58:44 +0000 UTCI'm happy that you rank her singing so high in the Kpop spectrum. Yeah her solo records, on average, don't do her talent justice imho. I hope this doesn't discourage you from diving deeper. If you do, I'm pretty sure you'll fall in luv with her in general, not just as a singer. As you discovered in your Mujin Service reaction, she kicks ass covering others' songs. Whether as reactions or for your own enjoyment, I recommend "My Sea" (the version where she has her hair up, wearing a white top), "Yahghwa Bridge" from Produce 101, and her appearance on *IU's Palette*. She also stands out on the zillion TV shows she's been on, both as guest and cast member. Humor, poise, charisma, athletic ability, physical strength, THAT SMILE, and most of all just super positive vibe. And her comedy acting got her the nickname of Korea's Emma Stone.

If that's the case, I think your chance of liking her music will be pretty low (for both past and future) as I think her music style & identity is quite fixed at this point The only thing we can expect with better A&R is probably just better melodies and production on the ballads :P She does write a lot of her music so that's another problem with improving that. I can see how working with a better producer could lift it up. For example, I think IU's current main music director/producer Jehwi could probably lift Sejeong's song quality if she can persuade him to work with her And sorry for sounding like a broken record, but now I'm really, really curious on how you would react to Gidle Miyeon's solo album "MY". And let us know if you also think it sounds too generic or like an OST. From there, I think I would have a better idea of what to recommend in future together with your Sejeong / IU / Taeyeon preferences

2023-09-14 19:34:14 +0000 UTCI think that was an issue that Sejeong mentioned in both the Lee Mujin Service in which she constantly changed her sound because she wasn’t satisfied with it. So yeah, I think you’re valid in saying that she hasn’t quite found her artistic stamp yet. I do hope she finds it because I really do like her as a vocalist.

2023-09-14 17:08:06 +0000 UTCSolid analysis. "Top or Cliff" was such a tease, but you're right everything did sound like an OST. Actually, I initially likened the sound to indie pop. Sadly, you're going to have to search elsewhere (youtube) to hear her sing other genres of music since her solo portfolio isn't very large. Her agency isn't that great when it comes to their musical artists imo. I agree with you and hope she finds another agency to take her to a higher level with her music but it may be hard since she splits her time with acting.

2023-09-14 14:51:26 +0000 UTCI think I only saved destiny, top or cliff and indigo promise on to my playlist. The ballads in the album were just meh. The production definitely failed her because she sounded good and even though I didn't love the album, I'm intrigued to hear more from her.
