I so agree, a lot of boy groups sound soo SIMILAR. I couldn't pick a party verivery, cravity, p1harmony, the boyz, X1 and many more from a line up, musically and style wise. They're all doing this similar rough boy image and I can't. I WOULD LOVE a new boygroup that was a bit more manly and had like a gentlemanly concept like Shinee - Your number or something.

I think one thing that 2nd gen and early 3rd gen really do well is actually sing live - I think a lot of 4th gen (and some of the still standing 3rd gen groups as well!) are moving more towards being dance centric and delivering a really strong dance performance. If we're being truly honest, the main vocals from 4th gen don't really stack up against the powerhouses of 2nd or 3rd gen - there's nobody singing like Taeyeon, Eunji, Hyolyn, Eunkwang, Jinho, there's nobody performing at the level of Taemin consistently. Because everything's moved to focusing on the performance, we lose out on live vocals and that vocal ability to take a song to the next level. One of my gripes with a number of boy groups is that some of the stuff feels very....same-y? Especially during that period of time when everyone was trying to do up BTS/Monsta X - right down to the outfits (soo many boygroups started wearing those frilly shirts with leather pants like BTS or the harnesses/body chains like Monsta X). They're all definitely good performers and there's variety in the albums but the title tracks, for a period of time, were getting very similar. I know people use 'noise music' to refer to it and I still think it has it's merits and it's not all noise, but boy groups started becoming very similar - down to the performance style. Unfortunately, a lot of girl groups started going that way as well with girl crush concepts too. I think groups are now expanding more but...I still think talentwise, 3rd gen are still eating up the newer groups at the moment and probably will for another year or two at the very least. eta: i sound like such a hater lmao i promise i like a bunch of 4th gen groups, i just miss what the earlier groups were giving in terms of vocals and stage presence.

I hope fully understand how monumental and iconic the 2ne1 performance was. Everyone was speculating that they would preform but there were still some uncertainties because of park bom (red hair) and her dumb ass scandal but when she came up, my god I lost my shit. Korean fans were still pissed tho but who cares since the whole scandal was stupid and ruined her career for no reason. I think the disbandment of them was quite emotional but expected even if they wanted to continue. One member left before the group disbanded but it wasn’t like there were many ill feelings. Their disbandment song was something CL even wrote as a letter for the member that left earlier (Minzy). And what you said about kpop changing is 100% correct. The music, performances may have gotten better and the talent is still there but the raw star power is different. I mean 2ne1 barely danced and they still managed to fill up the stage. Not saying that there aren’t idols with that type of presence but its very very different. Maybe they need to marinate more or something
