The Spectrum review

Hello chaps and chapesses! Sorry I couldn't go full early access on this one due to the agreed embargo, but hopefully my little review of the new The Spectrum is worth the wait. This is RGL's new clone of the Sinclair ZX Speccy. For our American chums, this was the arch nemesis of the Commodore 64 in the UK and other countries, though I don't believe it gained much traction in the USA sadly. Maybe this time around!

This is technically this coming Saturday's public release, as it's a little early, but don't worry I'll have some morsels for you to enjoy before the following one! Until then, happy Speccying!

Hope you get fully recovered soon! Pre-ordered mine and it arrived today. Just spent a happy hour road testing it and getting it setup as I like it. Enjoyed watching this, but waited until I'd set mine up first so as not to spoil the surprise. :-) Nice piece of kit. Just like my original Spectrums in terms of feel of keyboard. Quite a nice system to be able to boot into Basic (which is what I'd rather do). Also nice that I can just load my 48K rom into it automatically so that I can get the original '1982 Sinclair Research Ltd' on the screen(!) Loads all file types well it seems as (immediately updated the firmware of course as well). Next to see if I can disassemble it(!) and play with the case, as conveniently, the ports are in the lower half of the case. This means that I should be able to replace the lid with an 'original' lid, and swap out the keys and membrane into an old lid (and modify ribbon ways to refit). Must admit that the 'retro The Spectrum' bit is my least favourite, but totally get why... It'll be interesting to see if there will be further firmware updates, but as it is, it's pretty damned good, and easier to plug in that my original spectrum, PSU, Byte Delight HD adaptor etc...

Thanks Tim. Yeah sneak it on there go on!

Sorry to hear you'd all been poorly, hope your all better soon. Wow that brought back some memorys, especally the sound it makes finalizing the spash screen when loading. Remember the first one I see in the 80's was at my friend Sam's house, remember playing some sort of breakout game on it. First speccy I owned myself though was second hand, spent hours playing Booty on it. Deffinately something to sneak on the Christmas list 😊
