Early Shorts: Commodore 64 vs. Teenager!

Although we released a holiday special I didn't want to leave you empty handed over new year's, so here's no less than 6 short videos of introducing my 13 year-old Nephew to the Commodore 64! In this we'll write and edit a little program, load and save it to/from disk, and more fun stuff.

I'll probably be releasing these staggered through the weekend but as always they're yours to enjoy first.

And I do appreciate the vertical Shorts/TikTok format isn't everyone's preference. YouTube are pushing creators quite hard to try more short form vertical/mobile content, and I'm never one to shy away from new things and emerging trends. I believe keeping Retro accessible to younger generations is key to its survival by keeping it in the public consciousness. Thank you for understanding and tolerance :-) I actually found this quite a useful format for split screen as you will see, and it allows a decent view of both angles constantly; something that has more challenges in vertical formats ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In other news I'm awaiting delivery of my brand new C64 keycaps from the recently completed Indiegogo, upon which I will set about making another brand new C64 from 100% new parts, including the fantastic new EVO 64 motherboard (edit:) and the Ultimate64. Until then, happy new year, and thank you for your ongoing support throughout this year! 🙏

I personally don't like TikTok or the "short" format. Heck, I would rather have a short video (2-3 minutes) on the main channel as a video composition rather than "short" format, but I understand you have to take measures that keep your channel viable and growing. So I may not view all the shorts promptly as they come out. Hoping you will put all important Channel Updates on the main channel videos either on the monthly retro show or other major productions. Hope you all had a Happy New Year. Take Care 'Fractic Family!

Thank you so much! I do hope he’ll think about this from time to time and maybe enquire where he can get one of his own… Happy new year! 🥳

These clips were simultaneously great to watch and absolutely hilarious! 😆 It was really awesome to see you introduce Alfie to the Commodore 64 for the first time. Seeing him perform even the most BASIC (V2) of tasks, from turning the machine on, to creating a program, saving and then loading said program, as well as list its contents was a joy to watch. I have to admit, though, I was right there with you when Alfie didn't know what a floppy disk was but was somewhat familiar with it once you referred to it as the "Save" icon. 😄 Alfie seems like a great kid and he's really lucky to have an uncle who's willing to introduce him to the world of retro computing. Of course, in addition to your guidance, he has the benefit of the internet should he decide to dive further into the hobby. If I had the choice, though, I'm rather glad that I got to experience this technology when it was relatively new and had only the user guides and magazines to help me along the way. Thank you so much, Peri, for sharing these moments with Alfie with the rest of us; it was really heartwarming and wonderful to see. I hope you and the rest of the Fractic family have a prosperous and Happy New Year! 😊
