He and a few of his Russian friends went to check out this Chinese built ghost city near Tbilisi and he quipped about it being ‘money laundering’, which is actually probably true. Brings me to the question, where is China at with the bait and rob initiative these days? What happens when it inevitably fails for good (already failing badly now, when it passes the point of no return)?

Xi and the CCP are stubborn and answerable to no one, they're likely surrounded by yes-men whose jobs and status depend on maintaining zero-covid, SO OF COURSE THEY'LL SAY ZERO COVID IS AWESOME! My uncle went through Chernobyl in Ukraine SSR in the 80s, the government told the people nothing, in a communist state nuclear explosions and meltdowns could be happening 50 miles away and the government would say nothing and warn nobody if it makes them look bad, IT SUX!

I read that Xi and the CCP are afraid that will show how weak they are they have to buy an imported western vaccine, I guess they don't wanna 丢脸, I don't give a shit about 面子 but that is FUCKIN' RETARDED! The CCP should at least buy the western vaccines to get through all this covid nonsense, they won't do that like they won't allow free multiparty elections. For them only violence and suppression is the answer and in China, THE GOVERNMENT WILL WAGE A WAR AGAINST ITS OWN PEOPLE :(

But to a nationalist autocrat like Xi and his cadres who’s raison d'être is keeping the ccp in power zero covid seems to be looked at as a powerful tool. Imo the pro democracy protests in Hong Kong rattled the leadership. China economic rise came about by opening up to the rest of the world the party wants to gain economic and military power to the point that they are in an unassailable position. The young in China have seen nothing but improvement in their lives and the so called social contract of you stay out of politics and we will make you rich more or less was working well. But the ccp has always been worried about western influence filtering in and imo the party who has individuals currently in power who have been since Tiananmen saw shade of it. They concluded we’re rich and powerful enough but we’ve left the door open too long there were already signs of xenophobia before HK but after it ramped up to 11. Just imagine how great of a tool zero covid is for a dictatorship that’s wants to control where you go who you interact with and already has a massive censorship apparatus. You need a green QR code on your phone to do anything shop for food use mass transit go to work. Xi and his cult of personality click want to take China back to the bad old days where no information can get in or out like a North Korea 2.0. I suppose they hoped if protests break out they can blanket the area with a red QR and suppress word of mouth. It seems that the Chinese people and especially it’s youth have seen enough of the world and unfortunately have gotten to the point where they feel they have nothing left to lose that these draconian measures have had the opposite effect. Instead of ultimate control the lies have been umasked.

Things were at the boiling point due to all the horrific side effects of zero covid but imo what blew the lid off was the juxtaposition of life at home vs the World Cup. So many grievances had been building and building and all at once the lie that this is needed because the rest of the world is in chaos was laid bare during the worlds most watched sporting event.

I would assume they go after the networks for their coverage challenging factually threatening accreditation of journalists. The media is a business and companies know that the ones who take a stand will stand to lose money by losing access while those that play ball will gain market share.
