Is Xi Jinping Dumb? https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/is-xi-jinping-dumb/

question: about the protests, do you think theres a chance that they may be co-opted by Xi's rivals to oust him and portray themselves as heros with easing lockdowns,

Q: I’m finally heading back to Asia! So excited! Off to Laos in February and aware that it’s sadly a CCP vassal state which Laotians hugely detest. I was looking at ways to get from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and saw that there’s a Chinese built high speed railway which goes all the way via Luang Prabang and into China to kunming I think. Think it’s a bri project. Long story short: Is it a bad idea to use Chinese infrastructure in neighbouring countries? What’s the likelihood of my money going back to China instead of towards local Laotians? I’m super conscious of avoiding BRI traps incase it goes towards strengthening the pla and also because it screws over local populations in most cases. As a regular traveler, I do try to travel as ethically as possible. If that’s the case with the train I’d rather slug it out on a Songthaew! Would love to hear your thoughts!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on what the CCP might be making of the Iran protests and how we could compare the two uprisings. Have been chatting with you guys about it and would love to be a fly on the wall in Zhongnanhai

I want to hear the song!

Q. Hey a few years ago you did a video about another aussie guy opening a gym in China and getting into a lawsuit after being screwed over by a Chinese partner. I didn’t keep up to date with that and just recently thought about it watching some old adv Vietnam vids. What happened ? Think his name was John graham ? How’d the whole thing go?

Q. I have a Chinese friend living in China who won’t be using a VPN. I’ve been sending her screenshots on WeChat of BBC reporting in the widespread rioting. Are there other ways of getting around internet restrictions to share news? Thanks

Can you guys speak to the ease of young women getting plastic surgery in china? In my experience in China so many young women got surgery on their eyes to make them more "western" or to make a ridge on their noses, I understand why they do this but going forward being cut off from the rest of the world do you think they'll continue with this beauty standard?

There have been many documentaries of Holocaust survivors and many books about the Soviet Gulag. Have you considered documenting the memories of those few who survived Mao's purge and escaped?

OMG the first time the gal with the toy gun started with the tongue! I had to look away! I actually would like to see (being a bit a a wimp) some scenes from the good side (or at least the semi-functional) rural China. My brother in law is Chinese-American and had to leave China as a kid. His father worked as a lawyer for the government before Mao. I sent him a New Year card of a dragon dance and he said the memory made him cry. Is there ANYTHING left of the old China?

That first video you showed was so cringe I felt it on my skin. Like a powerful sun from millions of miles away slowly baking my skin with ultra violet rays, I need a welders mask to endure it.

I lived in Taiwan from 1969-72. Back then Taiwan had a huge littering problem - very close to China today. Also, 50 years ago there were open sewers in downtown Taipei. Taiwan went directly from an agrarian economy to a high-tech economy.....they skipped the high-polluting industrialization stage. Along the way, the populace developed great respect for the environment, and Taiwan is great today.

Finally part of the Xiàban Hòu! club 🤩 I can’t wait to watch today’s show!

This one is for Matt: just ordered the book "Invisible China", by Rozelle and Hell, today. They cover rural China, and it looks like they confirm everything you were always saying about rural China, including the toilet stuff. I think you are spot on bringing the urban/rural divide to our attention, even though CCP propaganda bureau doesn't want us to see it. Looking forward to the show :)
