Xiàbān Hòu! - Episode #20 - Women's Obscene Rural Drinking Games in China

Comments

Despite watching your shows for a few years now, I still get to see crazy stuff I have never encountered before. Its like travelling to Narnia.

Late to the game here but the woman drinking spirits after lighting it is actually an old con artist trick I have witnessed before. (Bet you $20 I can down this bottle of spirits) Water is heavier than alcohol so the con artist fills a bottle with water then adds a very high strength clear alcohol to the top, about an inch. The liquids don't mix, one pours out the alcohol on the table (a little water goes out with it which is why it can sometimes take a couple of attempts to light it) leaving a bottle full of water with just a little bit of alcohol.

This was so gross to me...ugh. I like drinking...just not to excess. I've had my binges in my twenties, but I'm so done with that kind of stuff...just culture, I guess. Ugh. Did you make a decision on the audio chat time?

Hey legends! My question and observations of the week: Why do authoritarian regimes only ever resort to the r word and whataboutisms when called out for their atrocious flaws? I’m a big football (soccer) fan who’s been really vocal of qatars World Cup and the Qatari regime has been successful in turning this into an Arabs, not Qatar, vs the west issue. Those who know me will know that I’m a big advocate of travel and culture around the Arab world and have made many life time friends in the region, yet I’ve had a lot of Arab nationalists attacking me over what the Europeans did in the past over colonialism and other straw man arguments because I’ve been critical of qatars treatment of migrant workers and the lgbt community. It sucks to see these tactics can be so successful, I guess it’s like what you have to deal with when faced with the wumao but on a smaller scale. It’s such a bitch move to resort to whataboutisms and accuse people of racism instead of dealing with criticisms. I am hugely pro-Arab because I advocate for their human rights and try to give them a voice. Do you guys see the similarities between the tactics of China and other authoritarian regimes by trying to turn the populace against those who actually advocate for better human rights for them? Like China, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia etc..

Also really depressing seeing the Twitter comments of Vicky Xu, any plans for a collab ? No idea how to help stop these Twitter troll issues in regards to defending human rights in China and critiquing the government. Cheers bois

Hey guys, I have some exploring outdoor videos I took back in China with really exotic and expensive birds that were chained by their feet & connected to motorbikes to stop them flying away. I was told that exotic birds are very illegal and the owners don’t sell the birds but keep them as pets and avoid police.. spoke to one of the owners of a few exotic birds and seemed to care about the pet and loved to show it off to people, this is all outside first tier cities. How do they manage to bring or sneak in exotic animals in China ? Seen a lot of reptiles and parrots that in US dollars are upwards of $5,000 and not native to CN.

HeyItsMeUthere

I saw that this week world population hit 8 billion, What do you guys think is the actual population of China? There's no way they can give a precise number with all the rural people etc right? Is it way higher or lower than the projected 1.6 billion?

Finally paid for this patreon.

Yes, I second that vote.

Ugh. Glad you didn't do this one during "Sober October". I'm not a fan of US prohibition but it did profoundly change America's relationship with booze. It is not an accident that women led the movement for Prohibition--they were the ones who suffered most from the boozing culture.

Regarding audio show: feel like it is getting bit much, especially if it is similar content, but I would probably still tune in every now and then. I wonder if you could do other stuff than comment on China politics, like doing adventures again. I know the car channel didn't work out as expected, but I think production value was very high and it just showcased your talent for content production. Just wondering if China commenting will be enough going forward, especially if you can't travel there. More often I feel like I heard certain stories already before.

Alright: Idea for content- do a tier list of chinese/hk/cantonese cinema, personal favourite movies you guys should rank some pop culture ones and classics from 80's to early 00's.. i've seen a fair chunk of popular ones already. i love from beijing with love and love watching jackie chans dubbed early work .. just looking for a bit more scary/thriller stuff from my question this ep! great show. the ai yi downing a whole bottle of baijiu made me gag while i was in an elevator. ''Also..gimme some horror movie suggestions too, i think i missed someone in chats suggestion. gonna have to take a peek at sammo hungs stuff, only brought up 2013 rigor mortis because it mixed martial arts, atmospheric horror and decent acting. This wasn't a question btw maybe someone on the patreon can help me find a decent horror or thriller outside of mainland. ''

HeyItsMeUthere

Did I just see a monkey riding a bike or am I hallucinating?
