I would be less concerned about the smell, although it's not pleasant, but more worried about general hygiene. You cannot do a full body wash only once a week and not experience increased risk of transmission and infection. Even if your immune system is strong, you will pass things onto those less fortunate.

Chinese people don't smell bad. Most of them at least north and Korea does not have the gene for it. My armpit smells worse half an hour after a shower without deo than my girlfriends do after one week. Just saying. We stinkers have to wash more often but it doesn't need to be endless showers. Not every country have that amount of water to waste like Americans. And the amount of energy needed. Do we really want China to use 2 times as much coal just to shower every day? Is it not bad as it is?

I was in Shanghai for 2 weeks in January 2001. The roads were not full even though not much bigger than Stockholms 1/12 the size. I counted for fun on the way to work. Out of 10 vehicles 5 was busses or trucks, 4 was taxis and 1 was a normal car. My Chines colleagues said out of those half were government cars. Beside the motorway was almost the same sized road with only bikes. Some with chicken cages stacked to over 3 meters. Saw one bike delivering 7 20liter water cooler tanks. All was gas cars and the pollution not so bad and sweet smelling. China changed very quickly, i don't even think Winston saw this arriving just a few years later in the big cities.

Around ten years ago I took an actual Chinese tourist bus trip (not for foreign tourists because my wife is Chinese) to the mountains of Yunnan. The entire experience was a nightmare and I wish there were some way I could recount it to you. We went to Kunming, Dali and Lijiang. Is that anything you'd be interested in?

We never took our shoes off. I hate to at peoples houses but I do out of respect if I have too. I have flat feet and without support it’s painful to go barefoot. It makes it painful for days before I can get it to go away. It did not bother me as a kid but when I grew older it became a huge problem. Half of my siblings have flat feet and the other half high arches. We grew up with those ugly corrective shoes.

Question about the new intro to The China Show: It looks now like the color flips back and forth between drab and greener. I remember past videos talking about how you would sometimes alter the color balance because where you had filmed looked so drab and dry. Is this you turning on and off the greening to show it? Or am I reading too much into it and it's just a mild nostalgia filter?

China Uncensored thinks it wasn't a purge because they still showed Hu on state media in the evening news after the event. He believes they would try and make everyone forget about him. What is your take on this? (11:20 into his video)

Can you explain what the deal is with turtles? The worst thing I’ve ever seen in China was a bucket in a wet market with a guy shucking turtles to sell, the smell and blood and guts on the street was horrifying, more so than anything else I saw in China, also saw students in my school selling painted tiny turtles for keychains and they were still alive, I know they don’t have the same concept of animal abuse but what do they have against these poor shelled animals?

Question and observation about carsickness in China: I’m an extremely well traveled guy, over 50 countries throughout the course of my life, I can count places like Iraq and Afghanistan as places I’ve visited. But I’m a huge sympathetic puker, (I don’t actually puke but I get extremely nauseous and faint). That’s why I generally try to avoid buses when I travel in developing countries and hire a car instead. How do sympathetic pukers survive in China and how does someone like myself alleviate the stress? Probably just avoid China right? My trip to India definitely helped me get over crowds but my phobia of puke is probably something I can’t get over, in fact it’s gotten worse as I’ve aged.
I also must add that it’s usually Chinese tourists that get carsick whenever I’ve traveled on buses abroad around the world too

I missed the show, I VOTE YES to talking about dating in china, I dated 2 women in china, one not too serious, one was super serious, I would call her father and wish him 新年快乐! 恭喜发财, I really liked chinese women, they were fairly traditional, but this was back in 2005, maybe chinese women are much more 开放 now?
