Peri-preview: So you bought a C64?

Dear Supporters

It's a good news/not so good news kind of update!:

Grannyfractic

As you'll know if you watched last week's Peri/phrastic vlog, Ladyfractic's grandmother had spent some time in the hospital last week. Unfortunately she's back in again. This means we've taken on some unexpected responsibilities which have slowed progress this week, and Puppyfractic is dog sitting for little Sophiefractic. (Why does everyone's name here end with an "ee" sound?)

Pooter

The good news is my computer is back and as you may have seen on the Patreon Lens (on certain tiers) Apple kindly replaced the entire base; everything except the screen. This means new keyboard, new logic board... But the bad bad news is also new SSD drive. Fortunately I had a Time Machine backup, but there were some complications (= more delay).

The better news is the black screen crashes I've been plagued with as mentioned in the vlog seem to be gone! πŸ₯³ So this will really help future progress!

Video

The good news is the next video's footage is in the can and editing is proceeding well. I'm really pleased with it. But, it's something of a new format which took some retooling and extra prep. Plus it's multi-camera, and I have 6 hours footage to try to get down to around 20 minutes. This means it won't be ready till next week.

For now though please enjoy the first 7 minutes or so, as a special exclusive Peri-preview! Let me know any tweaks or suggestions.

This weekend I'll be publicly releasing the recent patron-only live unboxing, with a little Ladyfractic enhancement. You'll see... πŸ˜‰

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and ongoing support πŸ™πŸ•ΉοΈ

Interesting. Why would you recommend avoiding those?

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

I know it doesn't come up often on ebay listings, but beginners may want to avoid modded C64's, like the one that was listed a while back that was modified to have a way to switch between NTSC and PAL.

Ooh I like that explanation! Also, it's a sign of trust. So I hope you're all yawning like crazy at my videos!

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

If she's so willing to humour your whims and fancies, she's truly a keeper. Even if she yawns at C64s and such old tech stuff πŸ˜‚

Hope Grannyfractic is on the mend soon. In the meantime this video promises to be great fun!

Hedders

Sorry to hear the news, I hope it all works itself out OK. Also I'm sure I have read somewhere that if someone yawns when you're talking to them, it isn't them being bored, but them trying to draw in more oxygen to concentrate better so it is actually a compliment =)

Paul Jacobson

Really nicely done you guys :)

John McDermott

Thanks for your thoughts and again, all the best for Granny!

Hubert

Thanks! Yes, I filmed that explanation later and will be splicing it in before the Chef's Choice reveal! In short, PAL is more compatible with more software. πŸ‘πŸ•ΉοΈ

Funny story. Whenever I talk complex tech to her, she will actually yawn. It became so predictable that I prepared a Post-It note saying "Thanks for yawning" and when I started to talk tech I held it under the dinner table. She yawned for real on cue, and I pulled out the note. From this moment she agreed that she does yawn instinctively when I talk heavy tech! πŸ₯±

This is lovely! The format is fun delightful. I would love to know why the PAL version is better than the NTSC version (as is noted in a graphic but not addressed in your discussion).

geekpower

I think Ladyfractic yawned when you were talking. It’s contagious. Zzz
