Hello Patrons!
The U-Force episode is coming along nicely. I've finished all of my initial research and even spent an evening using the device on different NES games! You can view the archive of that stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/871537017
Right now, I'm scheduling interviews with people that were involved with the U-Force. So far, I have two interviews lined up with former Broderbund employees, but I'm hoping to get a few more by next week.
Interviews can sometimes cause delays in video production, so I'm also simultaneously working on another video.

Sega TeleGenesis Modem (Sega Mega Modem)
I stumbled across this device in an old issue of Sega Visions. Like the Famicom Network, it allowed users to check their bank account balance, view stocks, etc. But what made the Mega Modem stand out was its ability to play games online, something the Famicom Network never achieved.
The Mega Modem was a significant step for the video game industry. When Sega was planning their North American launch of the Genesis, they included this modem in their marketing, known as the TeleGenesis modem.
Unfortunately, the modem service used standard telephone lines, and it was a pay-to-play charge. So if you played someone across the country, it would rack up long-distance fees, making online play quite expensive!
The Sega Mega Modem barely lasted a year in Japan. The TeleGenesis modem never came out in North America. But several years later, devices like Sega Channel and X-BAND would try online gaming again.
Anyways, that's the latest from Gaming Historian HQ! I start my spring semester next week, but I'm only taking one class. That should allow me to keep working on the show consistently.
I hope everyone's 2021 is off to a good start. See you next time!
