The Patreon Relaunch - Everything You Need to Know

Happy New Year Gamers!

What better way to start a new year than to relaunch the Patreon?

I started my Patreon back in 2015 as a way for people to support the show. I treated it more like a tip-jar than anything. But over the years, Patreon has evolved into more of a cool, membership-style site, where supporters get exclusive content, merch, and more. 

With that in mind, I’ve decided to re-launch the Patreon with all new tiers. So let’s dive in!

Tier 1 - Student - $3.00

• Vote on episode topics
• Weekly blog posts with updates on videos, research, etc.
• Watch episodes early
• Access to the Discord server

The new basic tier combines the old $1 & $3 tier. Simple enough, and contains all of the perks everyone is used to enjoying.

Tier 2 - Grad Assistant - $7.00

• Enjoy all of the perks from Tier 1
• A monthly commentary video on an episode
• A personalized “Thank You” card and sticker!

With Tier 2, we will be offering a monthly commentary track on an episode. It will be an audio file you can download and play while watching an episode. This track contains insight to the making of the episode and sometimes features a special guest!

You’ll also get a Thank You card and sticker mailed to you, featuring our new logo.

Tier 3 - Professor - $12.00

• Enjoy all of the perks from Tier 1 & Tier 2
• Your name in the credits of each episode
• 10% off all merch
• A Gaming Historian Bullet Journal

The ultimate tier gives you literally everything. In addition to the Tier 1 & Tier 2 perks, you’ll get your name immortalized forever in the credits of video and 10% off all merchandise.

But my FAVORITE perk is the Gaming Historian bullet journal. I’ve used a notebook in some form since college to keep track of tasks, take notes, doodle, etc. These days, I’ve fallen in love with bullet journals and I’m so excited to have my very own!

Trust me when I say I am very picky about my bullet journals, and these are nice. They have a nice leather hardcover, a bookmark to keep your place, and use a high-quality paper. 

Now for a few notes…

Patrons will now be charged upfront instead of the end of the month

This is because people were abusing the system. I’ve had hundreds of people sign up for the Patreon, watch an episode early, then cancel their pledge. This is not fair to me or to you! Charging upfront prevents this from happening.

Why are you redoing your Patreon?

Your donations are SO important to the production of this show. The Mario 3 video alone cost around $5,000 to make, and that doesn’t include video production equipment. Redoing the Patreon will help raise funds for the show and offer more / better perks for you all! Everyone is happy.

I was donating $1, but that tier is gone! Do I have to increase my pledge?

If you were donating $1 previously, you will be grandfathered in and still be able to enjoy your perks, as long as you keep your pledge. If you cancel and want to rejoin, you’ll have to join at the $3 tier. 

You might be curious why I axed the $1 tier. After credit card fees / Patreons cut, it didn’t amount to much of a donation. Plus, it made sense to combine the previous two tiers into one. 

How do I claim the physical rewards?

As long as your payment goes through and you have an address on file in Patreon, we will send it out!

When will this take effect?

We are working with Patreon to update everything. Once we figure all that out, we will relaunch. Definitely by the end of the month.
