Update - Sex with Fumi in the shower

tl;dr - The month's been great, thank you! I am now working on getting an Attack of the Nega Maids update ready and I wonder if it matters if I display my pledge total.

I delayed this update a couple of days just to give the LMO update(s) a little time to breathe. We'll be back on the usual schedule next week, but I'm maybe changing the time of day I drop them. (More like the time I posted this one.)

I've been very happy with how the release of Let Me Out has turned out, it's been really heartening. In point of fact even though the release didn't happen until late in the month this has actually been the best month in the history of this Patreon campaign so far. Honestly, I still really need to grow the campaign a lot more (not greed, just reality) but this is very gratifying. Thank you for your support!

Pivoting to AotNM

Now that I've got the latest release of LMO out I want to be able to put out the first update of PAL: Attack of the Nega Maids as soon as possible (preferably some time next month). I don't yet know how much will be in it, but I can start down that road, at least.

I want to be very clear: I am NOT stopping work on LMO. There's still way more I want to add to it and I intend to keep updating it regularly. I'm just switching my central focus right now over to getting a release for patrons of AotNM with some of the new features in place.

So anyway, I've started work on the expansion already. Among other things, this week I've been upgrading some old pictures in PAL that weren't up to the quality standard any more, since the standard has lifted so much. (I think I've mentioned this before, but it's an ongoing project.) I'm also adding some general ones around the place to make the game more fully illustrated. 

Notable pictures that needed upgrading were some of the introductory pics, which I made early on to get the start of the game functional and so didn't benefit from what I later learned about using Iray rendering. I might post some comparison pictures over on my Tumblr just so I don't clutter up the Patreon feed with a lot of random blog-like posts, if anyone is interested in seeing them. (Let me know in the comments if you're interested!)

Do you care about showing the pledge amount?

I've got to be honest, I don't really like the way people judge Patreon campaigns (and creators) based on their pledge amount. I don't blame anyone for judging that way, it's natural, I just don't like that. Anyway, I turned it of a little while back and nobody seemed bothered, but I got persuaded that it might look like I was hiding something. Since this is a crowdfunding campaign it's your support that drives this, so I want to be transparent and not hide stuff from you. I imagine this doesn't matter much either way to most people, but if you've got an opinion either way I'd love to hear it. Do you think it's better to have it or not? I might start a poll, I don't know.


So what do you think? I always want to hear from you guys!

Thanks, those are interesting points too. It's true that there is a limit to the amount that money can do, particularly if you don't want to start hiring. Personally I think I would need quite a lot more income before I would be able to start hiring people on a permanent basis (I do small payments here and there for specific jobs); right now what I could really use is more job security. :)

I think showing the money you get is generally speaking counterproductive, and people who criticize those who hide have one or two points, but don't largely know what they're talking about. The thing is; if you get paid a lot, people expect you to progress really fast and even hire people to speed the process up. This is just wrong; just because someone started an patreon to get money out of working on something, does NOT mean they want to become an employer with all the related paperwork/caveats/troubles. Furthermore, people always overestimate how much X amount of money gets things done even if you pay for people to do them. In general, people don't know enough about game development or scheduling to actually assess with any accuracy what X amount of money actually enables. Not even seasoned game studios know or predict this; as a casual proof, just count how many release dates were not told from the outset, and if they were how many times they were delayed - even with multimillion budgeting expertise. So, yes, I think hiding the money is prudent. People should pledge what they feel comfortable, and as long as they get what they consider equal amount of value out of pledging. This can be just pure satisfaction in supporting someone to do more of X , or an actual reward like "Early Access" to releases, etc.

I like to see the amount of money, and even if I don't care I think that many that hide pledges do because if they make much don't want that new or old patrons decide to not pledge because they can help some underdogs or begin to ask more releases, scenes, etc. because with so much money how can they be so slow, if someone make little hope to attract patrons (so much author quit that some pledge only when someone do much, because so it's more probable they want to continue to work). Naturally not all the author have this ideas and maybe simply don't want to be judged by how much they do. I think that when you make much really help hiding, in other situations I don't know.
