Update 54

tl;dr - I'm on holiday! Before I went, however, I was able to release a new alpha.

This week's image

Had a good wank today? If not, maybe Kimiko can help. Although she doesn't seem to be enjoying it much, you never know what might be going through her head (or other parts). This image is one I made kind of speculatively, thinking of using it in the night service responses, which ultimately I now have done.

On holiday this week

I'm on holiday right now! Woohoo! I managed to get some super cheap deals on flights and accommodation that made it possible for me to travel. My day job also gives me more free time than usual which allows me to schedule this kind of thing. Therefore while I'm still trying to stay in touch and serve you guys well I may be a little harder to contact for this week and next week.

Even though it's a holiday my true passion is making these games, so I'm going to (hopefully) be doing a bit of writing when I get the opportunity here and there. I don't yet know for what projects - there's some bits of PAL I could fill in, or maybe I could develop some bits for a future game. Either way, hopefully the time won't be a total loss, and even if it is I will be back home soon, refreshed and ready to go. (I hope.)

Got more voice acting for Iku

This week I received the voice acting from Sacci for the threesome scene in which Iku takes part. There's some girl on girl stuff in there. Iku thinks it's wrong, and yet it feels...

Ahem. Anyway, I'll probably make Iku's one-on-one scene first but I would expect that threesome scene to be on the slate soon after that.

I can't really share any of this audio yet (or the images) for fear of spoilers. I might eventually spoil the other two threesome combinations in the updates, though. I'm not sure. What do you guys think? Would you rather I left the other two threesome scenes completely unspoiled and let you discover them in the game? Or would you prefer to see a little bit of the work from them? I know people who have played the alpha may have already discovered the 'placeholders' sitting in for the scenes, so the reveal is already spoiled for them.

Released PAL alpha 0.8.0

I did some work on small, technical stuff this week. More importantly I did some testing of the game and thus I was able to release a new alpha! Version 0.8.0 contains two main new features: level 5 night service responses and the first of the threesome scenes. There are some other things that are probably less important to players, but are still part of the complete package; the 'talk to' conversation system is now largely in place (apart from a few special situations) and there is some more side puzzle content in the game. Plus there's some new pictures that I made for the demo and there's bug fixes that came out during the demo process.

It's possible that the alpha's new features could be a little buggy or incomplete. I tried to test it but I wasn't quite as thorough as I like to be because of time constraints this week. I would really appreciate any bug reports or comments about the game's incompleteness if you have any, either here or to: bbben.aif@gmail.com

Any thoughts? Any questions? Any suggestions? If so please leave a comment below! I'll get to it... assuming I have wifi access. :)

Update 54

Comments

It's hard to speculate, but I doubt it because waitkey commands in the text aren't really a taxing or difficult function. Also, I believe the ADRIFT platform should process all multimedia as soon as the task is triggered, not when you press the button to proceed.

BBBen

No, it has no trouble with that. Do you think it has to do with the gif plus the fact that the beginning is a section where you have to press a button to advance the text? All the other instances of text like that have no gifs.

R S

If I had to guess I suspect that ADRIFT is struggling with large gifs on some systems. Does the big one at the start of battle sequences cause you any trouble? By the way, I use Windows 10 so it's not just that.

BBBen

I don't think it's a sound issue. I sometimes play without sound when testing so I can listen to music or whatever, it will still crash on that first section if the rain graphic is there.

R S

I've had very scattered reports of similar problems before, but there's no consistency to them. At some point I'll make a test version without the animation and get you to let me know if it still crashes (it could be the audio or some other factor) but obviously I'll have to be at home to do that.

BBBen

In the latest alpha the first animated image of the rain causes the game to crash. I know because it works fine if I turn the graphics off for that part. No other animated scene causes adrift to crash, just that first image. My computer recently switched over to Windows 10 (without my permission, grrr.) That might be a factor. Maybe switching to a static image at the start would help.

R S

I agree, it was a real shame to lose Phinn from the project. Anyway, I'm grateful for your support! Even if you did get a few spoilers. :) Graphical uniformity is a good thing - PAL won't have it because I still plan to use a lot of Phinn's work, but I guess future projects will.

BBBen

Speaking of spoiler, I've entered Patreon, because finally I had the possibility to contribute to your games, but the idea was to not having to resist and don't read spoiler (Initially I have decided to pledge less for not have the temptations, but at the end I preferred to sipport you how much I could), but I haven't endured and I have read all the post, too interesting, you have done very much work. I was sorry for Phinn, I prefer to have the same author for uniformity, and you are now very better, but he was a great artist and he seemed a good person.
