Catcher was all energy until he and Chancery split off for morning classes, at which point Viv did an admirable job of taking over, looping an arm around her boyfriends elbow why she obviously tried to engage and distract him from whatever was going on in his head. It was almost like the old “Grant” was back, though, with Logan only answered with grunts or nods of his head. More than once Rei glanced worriedly at Aria, but she only answered with grimace and a muttered “Viv’s got it. Let her handle it.”
The moment they stepped into Combat Theory—with Elean Samsus already waiting patiently at the front of the auditorium—it became obvious that Viv very much did not have it.
“Wait! Logan! Don’t!”
Too late did Rei look around from greeting the captain with a nod to find Logan beelining his way up the nearest steps, his long legs taking them three at a time as he climbed his way up the desk-lined aisle. He moved with such furious intent that the classmates lingering on the stairs seemed to sense him coming, everyone in sight scurrying out of the way, those already in adjsacent seats leaning away like they wanted as much space between them and Logan’s palpable anger.
“Shit,” Rei and Aria both said together, rushing after him only a step behind Viv. If the Samsus wasn’t there, Rei could have been between the Mauler and his intended target in a blink, and he was strong enough now to have kept his massive teammate a bay long enough for Viv and Aria to hopefully calm him down. With the captain present, though, there was a strong chance all triggering his Speed spec inside would have done was gotten them both in trouble, and Rei could almost feel Serena von Bor’s breath on his neck as she demanded how two members of her training group had gotten themselves brigged for the night.
Maybe a night was worth it, though, to stop Logan from—
“Tooo late,” Aria groaned under her breath.
Rei echoed the sound as he watched Logan take the last few steps in a blink before turning and thundering down the topmost aisle of the auditorium. Halfway down, two students were talking amongst themselves, intent enough on their conversation that they’d missed the impending catastropher. Leda Truant, facing the steps, saw Logan first, and Rei would have liked to laugh as he saw her face drain of all color before she leapt up and started backing away so fast she tripped over a pulled-out chair and nearly fell.
It wasn’t the class gossip Logan was after, though.
Mateus Selleck only had a moment to look suprised as he turned in his seat to see what had scared Truant so badly. His blue eyes went wide at the sight of Logan, and he too was on his feet in a flash, but too late. The Mauler was already on him, school back dropping to the floor, both hands barely more than larger blurs as he took the Saber by the front of his black and golds.
Selleck yelled in surprise, his feet kicking at the air as Logan wrenched him clear of the ground in one jerking shove.
“Remind me, Selleck,” Logan’s voice was a low growl, and yet it seemed to reverberate in the sudden silence of room. “I thought we’d already learned this particular lesson. Am I wrong?”
