People's Choice #60: Babyface

Comments

This pc had soo many good songs. Hope for a lineup like this again 😭

Mtownboi4ya

End of the Road: Wanya Morris, the guy that sounded far from the mic, lost his voice during rehearsal. So when it was time to finally record the song his voice cracked, and they decided to keep it because his voice was raw and emotional. In the song he was singing "help me out" that's why.

Mychelle Walker

TLC, Usher, Toni Braxton, OutKast, Goodie Mob were all on Babyface and LA Reid(who was also in the group The Deele w/Babyface) record Label called LaFace Records. They RAN the 90s!!! Also, Babyface’s brothers were/are in the group, After 7, another great r&b group. Very talented family.

Simira

Two Eyes is the best thing ever 😆

Veronica Estrell

I suggest Babyface part 2. There are so many great songs.

Artie Tartt

PC61; C-Murder - Black Babies Don’t Mourn Nas - Street Dreams (Remix) Gang Starr - Royalty Since u liked my last suggestion with AZ, i see no reason why u not gonna select my suggestion again, so thank u:)))

MusicLife

PC 61 Theme ideas: Gerald LeVert Songs (from the group LeVert, to solo career, to the group GSL) OR 70s & 80s Bands OR Lecrae songs

Ms. Undastood

Tevin Campbell was 16 when Can We Talk came out. So that’s why he had a higher pitch voice. Also you may notice that Babyface sings background vocals on most of the songs he’s wrote & produced.

God's Favorite Mathematician

PC #61: Prince Diamonds and Pearls

Myles Davis

Kelis feat. Andre 3000 - Millionaire

Jim

PC: Debarge- I like it

WaterLord Jaz

WaterLord Jaz

Yes! That is my favorite Prince song

WaterLord Jaz

Loved all the songs, i knew if it was Baby face you can never go wrong, also in case you did not know Bootsy Collins gave him that nickname when he was 17. Looking forward to the next Artist, Kai you and Dad do such a great job, really appreciate you both.

Linda Walker

I really love Babyface, i think i have just about everything he has ever done, excellent song writer, he did a duet with Madonna the name escapes me right now,so delighted you are showcasing this gigantic talent. Just don't hear R&b like this anymore. Thank you so much for this awesome segment,Hello from Detroit.

Linda Walker

Random thought: You guys should do a album review on TLC's crazysexycool album it's an underrated classic with almost no skips

Bunk

PC # 60: Infinity Song- ‘I Want You Back’… I think you’ll both enjoy this sibling group but Dad especially since he stated he enjoyed male/female harmonies. Meshell Ndegeocello- ‘Ecclesiastes: Free My Mind ’ or ‘Outside My Door’ She was signed to Madonnas record label and is deemed a pioneer to the Neo Soul movement.

Precious

Pc: Jamie foxx - dj play a love song Reheem devaughn - you

Dewayne Williams

On the sza song - snooze the other singer on the song is a singer called Leon Thomas

Dewayne Williams

That Deele song(two occasions) has been sampled also. When you do the samples--check out Plies feat Ashanti- Want It, Need It

Mtownboi4ya

Baby face is considered one of if not the greatest song writer of all time

Dewayne Williams

So baby face was part of the group The deele he sings the course of the song he song and produced/ wrote alot of songs back then

Dewayne Williams

PC 61: Status Symbol 3- Nipsey Hussle ft. Buddy LaRussel x Wiz Khalifa- I Might Be

SunsN4

Great reaction, fellas! My only request is Babyface "For The Cool In You", unless y'all are gonna do the whole album😏. 😊👍🏽

Earlona Weary

Another Request from Me for PC 61: DIAMOND AND WOOD UGK -Ridin' Dirty Album

Arinesha Jackson

Interesting, I've never thought that but now that you said that I can hear what you're talking about.

Arianne Thompson

I love Take A Bow. I have loved this song since its release. The Babyface sound is familiar and showcases her voice so differently than in her other songs. However you still hear her voice and know it's her

Shaquea White

PC61: A Taste Of Honey - Sukiyaki in 1963 Japanese singer Kyu Sakamoto topped the US Billboard Hot 100 with a Japanese language song called Sukiyaki (Ue o Muite Arukō). In the 70s, an R&B group called Taste of Honey had loved the song so much they had it translated to English & added Japanese instrumentals to the song. It was covered again in the 90s by the R&B group called 4pm which was a top 10 hit. original Japanese version: https://open.spotify.com/track/7BIj2EumM3JA6NmxPcF6C5?si=16ecb06909cd40bf Taste of Honey remake: https://open.spotify.com/track/4FwOQZ6L39ZyHYwmPwlJZw?si=879ff4f1f2574996 4pm remake: https://open.spotify.com/track/0cBQbqp5jInL73ZxLBSGlX?si=2f14626bb4ec40ab

Bdawg

PC61: Mariah Carey - Stay the Night. This is an album track from her comeback album "The Emancipation of Mimi". This song was written and produced with Kanye!

Bdawg

I second A Song for Mama by BIIM.

Kenysha

they should listen to the Remix too! The remix uses Mariah singing Two Occasions as the chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaJENylEpyg

Bdawg

I totally agree with Dad about Madonna. I was fully prepared to skip past her song and ended up staying for the whole thing and enjoying it!

Kyesia Belle

PC 61: POETRY IN MOTION - Anderson.Paak & SiR. I believe Dad would really like it. It has great instruments and just a wonderful vibe. 🫶🏾

Arinesha Jackson

PC 61: tracks produced by Metro Boomin e.g. mile high, around me or space cadet

Sultan Abul

That was a great episode I hope you'll do a second part to this cause he has lots more songs that he's written and produced lol Really wished you would've listened to Mama by boys to men think dad would've really connected to that one So song Suggestions Love and war by Tamar Braxton Sky walker by Miguel Medicine by Queen Naija Mama by Boys to men

Senitra Lane

Hey everyone, am I nuts saying I hear a resemblance to Prince in Babyface’s vocals? (dad)

The FrontRoom

PC 61: We Belong Together by Mariah Carey. There is an interpolation of "Two Occasions" by The Deele that you should be able to catch now 😀

Kenysha

PC 61: Raekwon & Ghostface Killah - Rainy Dayz.

Anesa D

PC #61- Time Today by BJ The Chicago Kid feat. Ari Lennox

Nolly Thando

PC #61- Same Space? by Tiana Major9 feat. SiR

Nolly Thando

Is that much talent on one song legal?!

Nolly Thando

T-Boz is the lead vocalist, Lefteye was the rapper, and Chilli is the other vocalist. Lefteye got her nickname from a friend who complimented her left eye because it was slightly more slanted than her right eye. He said he was attracted to her left eye lol

Lily Taylor

PC 61: Super Bowl Performances

LB CaliMommy

Live to Tell by Madonna is another beautiful song that Dad might like and be surprised by. It’s really deep and pretty.

Jen M

Thank you for choosing one of my favorite Babyface songs, Never Keeping Secrets. Even though that song is about him cheating and apologizing, it still sounds romantic. I love how his music really had a respect for women. This was a great reaction. I love how dad told his story about trying to talk to a girl right before, Can We Talk came on…lol! The irony! 😆

Jen M

PC 61: "Adore" 2020 Remasteed by Prince

Brenda T.

I love that you listened to the songs in order of release. Bobby Brown started his career in a group called New Edition. I think they deserve there own PC episode. Maybe start with Can You Stand the Rain.

Shaquea White

SUCH. A. GOOD. SONG. I wanted to suggest it, but there are so many..!

Adrea

So real… He IS a genre. ❤️

Adrea

Such an amazing listening session, and reactions!! I laughed, I cried.. it was great! “Two eyes” made me laugh, and “Take a Bow” made me cry. (Your dad’s reaction was priceless.) Great song selections - Everything I wanted you guys to get, you got! Don’t know if you realized it, but Babyface is providing the background vocals (almost more like a duet), on “Take a Bow”. Babyface is also a record label legend, with major superstars signed to him (i.e. Usher) He’s also a prolific song WRITER. Babyface is still HIGHLY sought after by younger (wiser) artists of today, like Lucky Daye, Ariana etc. Ps: Quincy Jones thought Tevin sounded like MJ, as well!

Adrea

❤️❤️❤️ this episode!! Only comment is the SZA songs lyrics sound so beautiful & sweet but she's singing about hella violence LOL - talking bout killing bitches & hiding guns (I'll testify for u, hold that fire for u, I'll kill that bitch I'll do it all for u as long as u with me..) total ride or die obsessive behavior in the name of this soft & pink love she feels.. stark contrast that I didn't pick up on til I saw a tiktok or smthn talking about it after a year or so!! 🤣🤣 Stil one of my fave SZA songs tho! 😍

Felicia Wiggins

FYI Babyface was in the Deele that was him singing

Stephanie Peterson

Its funny you compared Tevin Campbell to Michael Jackson because that is exactly what they thought he would be. He had his first big hit at 13 w/ Quincy Jones. They literally said he was the next Michael Jackson although things didnt pan out that way

Mickey10 JB

PC 61 Wale feat. Curren$y - Wordplay (produced by 9th Wonder)

ficy

A Cookout classic

Tnulb

PC 61: SHINE ON-Luke James FT. Samoht

ANTOWINE

PC 61: -E-40, "Every Year" -B.O.B. "The Kids" -Vampire Weekend "This Life"

Tnulb

Thanks for the feedback! The mic does sound a bit low. I’ll fix it and post the fixed version later today.

The FrontRoom

Absolutely loved this reaction. Babyface is a living legend! I also loved how you went in chronological order, that was cool. Also "Two Eyes" made me laugh out loud 😂 The lead singer of TLC was T Boz, Back up was Chili and Left Eye was the rapper. Gave my high school girlfriend this cd as a gift. Phenomenal album. Can you believe, after all the hits TLC had, their deal was so bad, they made very little money.

Tnulb

Oooh yeah I'm surprised they've never done "Can You Stand the Rain"

Tnulb

ABSOLUTELY 🤯

Tnulb

I enjoyed this episode so much!!! Great song selections out of the comments too… I think all of these songs (except Snooze) Babyface did both songwriting and production.

Adrienne

Yes pleaseeeee!!! 🎶

Adrienne

So happy u both luved baby face —-and Tevin Campbell was like 15/16 yrs old when the song can we talk was 1st recorded, and he does have a high octave voice register

Janhann Turner

Babyface sang on Lil Wayne's "Comfortable" from the Carter 3. Love Pops hip hop facts 😊

Brittany Butler

Not a complaint, just asking if it's me or if the audio is reallyyyy low: especially Kai's mic..

Brittany Butler

PC61: Take your time - Pete Rock

Anthony Mendoza

Hopefully you enjoyed BabyFace enough to react to his Tiny Desk.

Precious

Just posted one for Pete Rock! Another Producer Spotlight episode. Not for the next People's Choice, just as a regular video.

The FrontRoom

You guys should react to speakerboxx and the love below. I would love to see your reactions to that

BJonone

In response to Dads surprise that a singular person/producer won the poll, I’ve seen many request for producer and songwriter spotlight themes since you started PC so hopefully you will do more.

Precious

This was great! Thank you for taking the time to react to 8 songs. Loved that you reacted to the songs in order of release…Enjoyed the commentary also.

Precious

I'd like to see you two react the live cover of "While my Guitar Gently Weeps". With Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynn and others. It was when Prince and George Harrison were inducted into the Rock n roll Hall of Fame. It's a legendary solo from Prince.

jeff baker

PC #61: New Edition - Can You Stand The Rain or If It Isn't Love

Robin

This was fun! Babyface is such a legend and deserves all the flowers for his amazing contribution to music. So many people’s favorite songs wouldn’t exist without Babyface & it’s crazy he’s not as known by the masses like Dad pointed out.

Emily

I second this recommendation!

Emily

I would die if we ever got reaction to one of those 😭

Emily

The Deele is pronounced like the deal. Kai is correct in saying that people used to say what's the dealio. But that's part of my generation which is Gen X.

Robin

PC #61: Incognito - Always There (a great British acid jazz band) Res - Golden Boys

djhyjak

I'm so excited my suggested theme was chosen! I imagine it was difficult to narrow down song choices 😂 I have to say Babyface IS a genre! Lol

LB CaliMommy

Im waiting for a reaction to a cosboy carter or renaissance song

Jamil King

TLC, Toni Braxton, Outkast, Pink, and Usher were signed to Babyface's label LaFace, Babyface is also singing background of Take a Bow.

djhyjak

Can We Talk is a cult classic

CHILO

Only two songs in and I can say this PC is my favorite yet. Also...baby face is on the Deele song. "Everytime I close my eyes I think of you... " Is babyface

jeff baker

Please react to YAYA by Beyoncé from her most recent album! Honestly so underrated but also one of her best vocal performances on a record to date. It's a trip and half 🩶 Love the videos 🩶

CHILO
